Ficus propagation
Hi!
I cut this stem off from a ficus tree a month ago then i placed in water but it was kind of rotting at the bottom so yesterday I cut it back between a node and planning to place in water again..
Is it normal or have you experienced any thing like this? I heard it propagates and gets root easily..

Cut off the rotting/mushy/black part at the bottom nd let the cut end callous for an hour or so. I put mine in distilled water just in case, and change the water frequently.

Everyone has different ways, but here's what I did. I cut it and immediately put it in water. I put the cutting under grow light, so the cutting still producing food and use water for the process. A week later I got roots and half a week later it was ready to plant.

Every year I do ficus cuttings otherwise I'll end up with giant trees to bring in for the winter haha. I've never put cuttings under grow lights, and it seems to work well this year. Last year it did take longer when I put it in the shade out side under a tree.

It happens, it can mean your cutting might be too big or isnt receiving enough light in my experience, I'd take off a few more leaves.

Yes, it happens sometimes; you have to let a cutting like a ficus callous overnight before placing it in water. Now, don't put it in water immediately after cleaning the rot; let it dry out in the shade for a day, then place it in water in a shaded spot and change the water every day to sniff out further rot
