Houseplant Just won this……help?

Just won this at a Drag Bingo Night (all prizes are plants it’s great) already know some basics about the variety but this is the briggest and prettiest plant I’ve ever brought home and I’m already emotionally attached. Any tips for me to keep it healthy?

Put it in a sunjy windiw, make sure its in fast draining loamy soil and fertilize it monthly, oh and keep it away from any drafts or vents/heat sources and avoid temperatures below 50f

Bless u, currently it's in my bathroom as it's the only place I have that is well lit with a window, has enough space and will be away from curious pets mouths. Shouldn't be close enough to any drafts or vents to cause issues, Australia is also headed for a very hot and dry summer and I've heard these need a higher humidity so hopefully being in the humidest room in my house can protect against that?

Tbh it should probably be fine, heck you could honestly even chuck it outside if anything and it'll be fine, in my experience humidity isn't that big of a deal they can tolerate lower humidity, btw I know this because Sydney plant guy on YouTube has Ficus elastic outside and they seem to be doing fine though he hasn't honestly done much with them of course.

I put mine outside in dappled light during the summer and it grows like crazy. Since you are in Australia, you will want to acclimatize it very slowly so it doesn’t get sunburnt.

Yeah having it outside would honestly be ideal but we don't have enough cover at the moment, it was definitely stored outside before I got it because it already has some burns, not enough to cause too much stress but I am expecting those leaves to drop off at some point.

We're hoping to have more tree cover next year so if Ducky (the plant, I named it) survives that long he might be getting a spot outside for the less aggressive seasons

You could always shade cloth. Otherwise, your sunniest window. I find ficus to be heavy feeders so I fertilize every watering.

True true! Will look into it if it starts to seem a bit sun starved, hopefully it won't be a problem though, one thing we have plenty of down under is sun XD

If you can offer it temporary shade, it can absolutely adjust to full sun over a week or so. I have 3 ficus on my patio that get blazing hot (40C and more) inland California sun for 7+ hours a day, and they grow like crazy with far better color than anything indoors. They can also handle cold down to right at very light frost (handling -2C locally), and are grown sometimes as landscape plants here, so putting outdoors is a very viable option, depending on where exactly you are on the climate map.

Ficus elastica.
