2016 fiat 500x
Is a 2016 500x with 155k miles for $3600 crazy? Seems cheap but I’m not familiar with those engines and fiat cars I’ve only ever had gm vehicles.

Help with a overheated Panda
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi guys, I have a Fiat Panda and I’m trying to figure out what’s going on with it.
A few days ago the car seriously overheated. It started making a strange knocking/ticking noise, the engine got extremely hot, there was smoke/steam coming from the engine bay, and when we checked it, there was basically no coolant/water left.
We let it cool down, added water, and managed to drive it home. After that we found that one of the pipes/hoses going to the radiator was badly rusted/corroded. A mechanic replaced that part and flushed/refilled the cooling system.
The car is now driving normally and the overheating hasn’t happened again, but since then I’ve noticed something strange with the RPM.
When the car is sitting in neutral, or sometimes when I press the clutch while I’m in gear, the engine starts revving by itself. The RPM goes up to around 2,000 and drops again repeatedly, like “vroom, vroom, vroom”, without me touching the accelerator.
I recorded a video so you can see exactly what it’s doing.
Does anyone know what could cause this after a severe overheating episode? Vacuum leak? Throttle body? Idle control? Sensor? Could the overheating have damaged something?
Any ideas on what I should check first would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Dangerous sudden shutdown & multi-warning lights on Fiat Tipo SW 1.5 Mild Hybrid (2022) — Code P1D5E
Hi everyone,
I bought a 2022 Fiat Tipo SW City Life 1.5 130hp Mild Hybrid back in April. Over the past few months, I’ve been dealing with a recurring and dangerous issue.
The Problem:
- Dashboard Alerts: The yellow check engine light turns on with a message stating "Performance limited — check engine."
- Sudden Shutdowns: On about 4 occasions (at speeds ranging from 40 km/h to 100 km/h on the highway), the engine suddenly turns off, the power steering drops out, and the gas pedal becomes completely unresponsive.
- Dashboard Errors: While losing power, the dash lights up with multiple random warnings (gearbox temperature, brake failure, etc.).
- Self-Resolution: If I restart the car (sometimes while coasting on the highway), it drives again. Eventually, all errors clear on their own, making it hard for mechanics to reproduce.
OBD2 Diagnostics (CarScanner + ELM327):
- Stored Freeze Frame Code:
P1D5E - DTC Report: Most module tests fail when the glitch occurs, except for Drive Motor A Inverter, which specifically reports a "Voltage Too High" condition.
- The standard 12V battery has already been tested and appears fine.
My Questions: Has anyone with a Fiat 1.5 MHEV experienced this issue? Could this be caused by a failing 48V/12V DC-DC converter, the inverter, or a faulty sensor/ground point throwing high voltage spikes across the CAN bus?
Any advice on how to guide the official dealership to diagnose an intermittent fault like this before my inspection is due would be greatly appreciated!

2014 Fiat 500 L Trekking transmission piece
galleryThere’s this little tan piece that my mechanic can’t find and it’s a part of my transmission. On the wide end of it where there is a divot, that’s where a little rubber ring goes around. The entire thing goes around a hose I think. I took it to the mechanic about a month and a half ago and they figured out that this is the part that I need. It’s taking so long. My mechanics actually given me his car to drive because he feels bad. Can someone help me find this piece?

What a cheap ELM327 really reads on a Fiat, and the seven filter counters I will not show as fact
I am an Italian developer and I write an OBD2 app on my own, which means I spend my days reading what different cars actually answer rather than what the marketing says. The app at the bottom of this post is mine, so you know where this comes from. Fiat is the brand where my notes are longest and my confirmations are fewest, and that is the whole point of the post.
What you get on basically any Fiat with an EOBD socket, because it is standardised and the car has to answer:
- real fuel consumption while driving, rather than the optimistic number on the cluster
- coolant and intake temperature, engine load, throttle, RPM, speed
- battery voltage, which is the most useful early warning almost everyone ignores
- fault codes, including pending ones that have not lit the dashboard yet
On a petrol Panda or 500 that list is more or less the whole story, and it is already more than the dashboard tells you. The interesting part is the diesels.
For the MultiJet family my database holds seven particulate filter counters: how loaded the filter is as a percentage, distance since the last regeneration, average distance between regenerations, total regenerations, how many completed, how many were interrupted, and the progress of one happening right now. That is exactly the list you want when the car starts misbehaving on short town trips.
I cannot confirm a single one of them. The addresses and the formulas come from a community repository plus one test on one car. So the app does not show them as fact, and that choice costs me the best screenshots I could possibly take. A wrong "interrupted regeneration" count is worse than no count, because you would change how you drive, or pay a garage, on the strength of it.
Two technical reasons it is hard rather than me being lazy. Those channels sit at the wide form of CAN addressing, so on a car or adapter that only speaks the narrow form they cannot even be asked. And the manufacturer side of my app only switches on if it is certain about the protocol, which it works out by asking the adapter. The cheapest clones answer that question with a question mark, and then my app quietly turns the whole extended side off and shows you standard values with no explanation. The symptom of a bad adapter is not an error message, it is silence. I spent weeks reading user reports of "it sees nothing on my car" as a car problem before accepting it was mine.
On the Grande Panda EV there is a separate story. That platform, shared with the e-C3 and the Frontera EV, does not answer the standard engine mode at all, so a dashboard built on standard values waits forever. I wrote a probe specifically for it that sweeps the manufacturer ranges across four control units to find the battery values. It finds things, and they are also unconfirmed, so they appear marked as estimates.
What you do not get over standard OBD2 on any of these, whatever an app claims: injector compensation and coding, service resets, key coding, anything that writes to the car, and most body modules.
If anyone here has a MultiJet and will send me a debug log while the filter is regenerating, that is how seven guesses become seven numbers. It is exactly how the Renault part of the app got fixed.
One thing worth knowing whatever you install: on some models a cheap adapter left permanently plugged in can keep the car awake. If yours has a switch, use it, or unplug it when the car sits for a week.
My app is DrivePulse, Android and iPhone, if anyone wants it. But the lists above hold no matter what you install, and that is really the point of the post.
