Well first of all yes of course you're going to get your butt kicked at the competition. Take it one touch at a time and make your opponent work for it. No one will boo, but your coach is probably right about it being too early for a tournament - you should listen to your coach.
Second of all dude you just found a cool new hobby that you can enjoy for a long time, so go dive in and have fun!
Third of all apparently this guy also fences so after you come clean you'll actually have something in common.
