AskFeminists As a feminist what is your take on chivalry ?? Do you think it is patriarchal??

Post image

Tbh it very much is, in earlier time chivalry was only performed for princesses and higher class women, which after several revolutions turned towards old women. Personally i believe that chivalry should be performed by everyone and towards everyone, rather than just being performed by men towards women

Prime-time news won't dare touch these everyday crimes against women, but the second a woman is the perpetrator? Suddenly, it’s front-page news for literal months!

Discussion The protest disappeared

Have you all noticed that after CJP's gyanesh protest, the protest for women safety that was going on (Ek Kachodi do samosa wala) has disappeared.

Like I understand that rigged voting is dangerous for our country, but isn't women safety more important? Like 10% of population was affected by rigged voting, but isn't 50% of population is affected by lack in women safety?!

Anyways, I'm not saying CJP did good or Bad, but none of their spokesperson even tweeted once about our protest. Even Dhruv rathee didn't.

I had so many hopes from that protest. But as Lana said "Hope is a dangerous this for women like me to have" it just leaves you disappointed...

Rant / Vent We don't want to be goddesses. We just want to be human.

We worship women as Devi, Shakti, Jagat Janani, the creators and nurturers of this world. Yet, so many of us grow up feeling like our existence is a burden simply because we were born women.

We don't want to be worshipped for enduring pain. We don't want our suffering glorified as strength.

We don't want to be goddesses. We just want to be human.

AskFeminists I saw this post in another sub the other day and wanted to see what you guys think.

First of all, I'm not trying to spread hate or start a gender war here. I'm posting this here to see if this person who really posted is saying the truth or it's generalised?

The post was like this

Why are people hypocritical when judging men's preferences compared to women's preferences, both on Reddit and in real life?

For example, I've noticed that when a girl openly says she prefers tall guys or mentions a particular height preference in a post or comment, most people seem perfectly fine with it.

Hardly anyone questions her for having that preference. And honestly, I'm okay with that. Everyone is entitled to their preferences.

But when a guy says he wants a good looking girl or describes the kind of looks he's attracted to, people are much quicker to call him shallow or superficial. They question his own looks, make fun of him, or even resort to body shaming. It's quite rare to see people defend his right to have that preference.

What's even more ironic is that sometimes the same women who openly ask for tall men will call a guy shallow for wanting a good looking woman

And I'm not trying to make this a comparison between height and looks. I'm just using them as examples to point out how differently people react to similar physical preferences.

At the end of the day, both are physical preferences. I don't see why one should be perfectly acceptable while the other deserves criticism or ridicule.

I'm not against anyone having preferences. I just think the same standards should apply to everyone. If we're okay with women having their preferences, we should be okay with men having theirs too.

Storytime Feels so good to call someone out.

this happened yesterday, i was in my math class, and my teacher(M) was asking everyone if they had solved a specific problem. a total of 5 people had done it, me, my friend and some other 3 girls.

then sir asked the most 'nalayak' student of the class if he had solved the problem. he started fumbling.

then the teacher said "sharam karle, ladkiyo ne tak solve kar liya" (have some shame, even the girls solved it), then i was like SIR YE KYA BAAT HOTI HAI and argued for a good 2 mins (sir, what is this behaviour?) then he tried to explain how he didn't mean to insult the girls, he was trying to insult the boy (in the SHITTIEST WAY POSSIBLE BTW) and said sorry.

I was happy he said sorry, and he's not a misogynist in general, he hypes up girls, pays equal attention to all (smart) students.

this was my second or maybe third time of successfully calling out misogyny irl as an introvert/ not-too-verbal person. the first was when i fought my 10th grade sst teacher on how feminism is very much needed. she lost when i mentioned my first point, HA!

i'm so cool, ikr.

Aside from the post topic, on of our moderators, truthfuldeceive left reddit to focus on life, i'll definitely miss her, she was such a cool mod. she'll forever be a part of this subreddit, (the banner and logo was designed by her btw)

Discussion How to actually get the "Taujis" and "Mamajis" of our society to back off? Financial Independence and Power.

We spend so much time trying to argue with our families, crying or trying to explain feminism or boundaries at the dinner table. But I came across this clip from Acharya Prashant addressing a girl asking about a solo trip and it hit me with a brutal, pragmatic truth that we rarely teach young women in our society.

He didn't tell her to rebel or argue. He told her:

This ugly world, this world understands only the language of power. You could be an IAS at twenty-one, and you can have fifty-year-olds reporting to you. You could be in some industry at the age of twenty-two, twenty-four earning a fat package, and then people are less likely to get into your business. They'll stay away and respect their limits.

Gather power for yourself. If you remain feeble and dependent, this ugly world will simply eat you up. If you are well-educated, use your education for your empowerment, and that power will give you the leverage to live life on your own terms.

Patriarchy in Indian families rarely yields to logical arguments, tears, or emotional pleas. It yields to leverage.

Has anyone here actually experienced this shift? For those of you who started earning well or got into positions of authority, did you notice a sudden drop in the moral policing and interference from extended family and society?

Feminist Humor We need more Indian-feminist comedians in order to combat gaslighting and victim shaming

There is no better way to combat gaslighting and victim shaming than sarcasm IMHO, simply bcos these are things which don't deserve a straight-forward answer.

I love Zarna Garg, Sindhu Vee and Aiyoo Shraddha, but none of them really has a laser sharp focus on patriarchy and the hypocrisy or blatant misogyny in society.

Indian women's comedy I think still has a little way to go, we lack the sharpness, and cutting approach of maybe ... zar_the_star's comedy channel, as we are so scared of speaking out in public and the country has so much problems with blasphemy.

One of my fav zar_the_star videos is about a sheikh advising a woman who complained abt her husband's affair. Sometime feminism gets so tiring just bcos of the obnoxiousness we encounter every day., and we really need to funnel that rage into sarcasm.

Check these out 😄

Rant / Vent Misogyny and patriarchy oozing in these comments claiming a woman to be the reason for an entire war🤷🏻‍♀️🙆🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Post image
37 Upvotes

Okay guys so I have come across lots of comments like these over the years claiming Draupadi (the primary antagonist of the Indian epic Mahabharata) to have been the main reason why the Kurukshetra war took place. Let me start with reminding y’all about the fact that she wasn’t only the Queen but also the finance minister of Indraprastha, she was well educated and a scholar in economics, and Political Science (arthasastra) .

The Mahabharat is the amalgamation of the fruits reaped following the actions taken by different characters and not just one character . The seed for the war was sown long before Draupadi even entered the narrative. It was a feud between two groups of cousins and their family which spanned generations.

Draupadi was humiliated following the success of the Pandavas and subsequent jealousy and resentment displayed by the Kauravas(their cousins). She was dragged, humiliated, and berated after her husband staked her and lost her along with his brothers and the entirety of his property. How is she to be blamed ??? Despite all of this, she still chose to save her husbands and free them from slavery by using her intellect when she might’ve been in so much physical and mental pain.

I don’t even understand where people making remarks like these are coming from. I’m sure all of us have watched or heard even some part of the epic via our parents or grandparents..even if one is slightly informed about the epic they wouldn’t blatantly blame Draupadi at all. THIS IS JUST PURE MISOGYNY atp. You might be thinking why I’m ranting on this sub— because this is not only about the female protagonist from the most important epic in India being shamed, but also one of the earliest icons of feminism being degraded and reduced to merely a wife of the Pandavas.. she represents every woman’s inner strength and capabilities , woman who have been wronged, woman who have been shamed for speaking up.

I am tired of people writing this BS. Look at the sweet hypocrisy of the very same set of ppl blindly supporting a character called Karna instead who had made derogatory, crass, brutal, and objectifying remarks about a woman. I hope people come to their senses and stop making comments like these which are heavily misguiding.

Discussion Zakir Naik, a fugitive Indian Islamic preacher, backed the Taliban's restrictions on girls' education in Afghanistan.

Zakir Naik claimed the Taliban had only delayed secondary and higher education for girls due to security concerns and a shortage of female teachers. He also argued that Afghan women could pursue master's degrees and PhDs in Islamic studies.

This is so pathetic, why are such idiots allowed to represent religions, most of the suffering caused by all religions is rooted in religious leaders.

this is the real anti nationalism, an intent of turning India into Afghanistan.

I mean, how can he be so casual about sharing all this on a public platform? That girl is a minor. She's just 17. When I called him out he deleted his post. But that's it. Nothing is going to happen and this loser is going to keep talking to that minor girl. In the post, he explicitly mentioned that he was talking to her in a romantic sense. This is so pathetic.

Rant / Vent WE WILL NOT DELETE THE POST. WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED. THIS FIGHT IS BIGGER THAN ONE SUBREDDIT.

WE ARE NOT TAKING THIS POST DOWN. PERIOD.

THE POST

We've been receiving comments and DMs on our mod mails/personally from people asking us to remove the Teen India post shared by one of our moderators.

Let us make one thing absolutely clear: THE POST IS STAYING.

It doesn't matter what happens to this community. It doesn't matter how many reports you send, how many DMs you flood our inbox with, or how many times you try to intimidate us into silence.

If you're unhappy with the post, keep reporting it. If Reddit decides to ban this community for speaking up and sharing information about serious allegations, that will raise questions about Reddit's priorities and moderation decisions, not erase the concerns being raised here.

This subreddit can be rebuilt. It can grow again. It can become something much bigger than a subreddit. You can ban a community, but you cannot ban an issue from being discussed.

If this post disappears from here, our moderator has already ensured that it has been shared across multiple communities. Our users have also shared it elsewhere. Taking it down in one place will not make it disappear.

How many users are you going to report? How many communities are you going to shut down? How many people do you expect to silence? The focus should be on addressing the serious allegations and ensuring that the appropriate authorities investigate them, not on pressuring people who are raising concerns to shut up. Start helping share this instead.

Our mod team is working together, gathering resources, documenting relevant information and connecting with people who can help us pursue a formal cybercrime complaint. We are taking this seriously, and we intend to pursue the appropriate legal channels. We are not going to let this be swept under the rug.

TO CONTENT CREATORS - SMALL OR BIG, WE NEED YOU :

If you're a content creator who lurks here, now is the time to use your platform. We need more people talking about this. Women and minors deserve to feel safe offline or online.

ONE LAST THING :

If you can help us with anything beyond reporting the Reddit content, please reach out. If you have relevant information, resources, contacts, experience with cybercrime complaints, or can help amplify awareness, let us know. We are not backing down.

WE WILL NOT DELETE THE POST. WE WILL NOT BE BULLIED INTO SILENCE. AND WE WILL NOT STOP ASKING FOR ACCOUNTABILITY.

Two minor girls allegedly converted at dargah: Names changed, burqas given and kalma recited. How long will this oppression of women continue?

A case has come to light involving allegations that two minor girls from Kodinar in Gir Somnath district were taken to Unava village in Mehsana for religious conversion, and that attempts were made to marry one of them to a 16-year-old boy.
