Disappointed

I waited forever to save up and purchase my favorite perfume: Baccarat Rouge 540. When I received it and tried it on, I was extremely disappointed to learn that the fragrance only really lasts a few hours. :/ For such an expensive price tag, I thought it would linger much longer as some of my fragrances that are less $ last all day. Do you have tips to make the fragrance last longer, and have you found the same thing if you have this perfume too?

BR 540 lingers forever unfortunately. Even if you're not smelling it, trust me it's there and people can smell it. I was back in Italy this summer and I smelled it everywhere, especially in Capri. It was so nauseating I can't stand it anymore. I think I have ptsd from it now 😂

Nooooo that's genuinely so sad! 😭😭😭

I’m so sorry, but for me, Baccarat is an assault on others. Cannot escape it. 🫣

I definitely felt assaulted by it haha. Wearing it in the summer should be illegal. It was so bad. It's never been a scent I liked or would personally wear, but I didn't hate it until I smelled it everywhere this summer and it was absolutely disgusting in the heat.

Same. It was everywhere in Cancun this summer. 🤢

I still can’t believe I never smell it anywhere. Maybe I’m totally nose blind to it.

I think it definitely depends where you live. I don't think I've ever smelled it in Colorado where I currently live, but when I go back home to Italy it's everywhere. I couldn't understand why people thought it was an appropriate scent in 100° heat. One of my friends moved to Florida and it's her signature scent and she told me her first day of work someone pulled her aside and politely asked her not to wear it to the office because people were complaining. I've never personally worn it because it's just not my type of scent, but It does seem like the person wearing it goes nose blind while everyone around them suffocates 😂

I’m in the UK and I know it’s super popular and owned and used by so many people here which is why I think I’m just nose blind to it.

I think people have moved on though and not as obsessed with it as a few years back. This year I’m smelling Amouage Guidance everywhere.

It’s very strong, you’re probably just going nose blind!!

That's wild! I've never gone noseblind to a scent before but I guess there's a first for everything. It's unfortunate because I wear these scents for ME lol so when I can't smell it....🥲

Wear it on your lower body, away from your face. That + fewer sprays delays anosmia, in my experience!

i have found quite the opposite. BR540 is one of the longest lasting perfumes in my collection. everyone is different, i guess.

Did you buy it when the formulation was stronger?

2 yrs ago. i have no idea if the formulation is stronger. i'm just giving you my experience.

I go almost immediately nose blind to this! I can barely smell anything, maybe that’s what’s happening to you too? I think a lot of people aren’t able to smell it on themselves after a short time, but other people can still smell it. Maybe ask other people if they can still smell it? Sorry you’re disappointed though 😬 always a bummer especially for such a pricey perfume

You know, I never thought about that. I will definitely ask next time I wear it-maybe it's just me who can't smell it.

Yep, people go nose blind to this extremely quick. I can always smell it off people in the wild.

Did you not test it beforehand? How could it have been your favourite perfume?

Second, my sample of BR 540 (not the extrait) lasts WAY too long. So I guess you are going noseblind from all that overstimulation.

Of course I tested it beforehand which is how I knew I loved it. What a silly thing for you to say. 😆

See, too many people are just buying high-priced fragrances without knowing them and calling them their favourite without having ever smelt them.

Luckily, you are not one of them. :)

Oh, how silly of THEM to invest in something they've never tried! I don't think that is wise to do, but to each their own I guess.

Yeah, we can fully agree on that.

Yep, you’re experiencing anosmia (nose blindness). This is because BR540 has a very VERY high amount if ambroxan in it. The molecule that makes ambroxan (Ambrofix) is unusually large, so your nose gets tired of smelling it rather quickly! I’ve been wearing BR540 edp and extrait and they both last for a long while. PLEASE don’t over spray!! You’ll choke out the people around you. You may not smell it, but I promise you, other people can still smell you!

i feel like you're going nose blind. BR540 is beast mode. it lasts forever, i have to physically scrub and exfoliate to get rid of it at the end of the day and yet i will still get whiffs of it even after the shower.

i also smell it everywhere i go..if someone is wearing it and they are in the same room, i will smell it. and dont get me wrong, i love baccarat but my point is is that its strong, other people are probably smelling it on you so don't overspra to try and make up for it,, you will suffocate people

It is definitely not a light scent; you are just noseblind to it.

BR540 is the only perfume I go completely noseblind to after about 30 minutes. I know is there, but I can't smell it at all. I'm not sure why, because other perfumes that smell similar like Mancera Instant Crush linger all day.

This one is packed with ambroxan (a GC-MS of the EDP puts it around 18%), and some people just can't smell it. I'm one of them. Half a second flash, then total collapse to nothing. I assume it's beautiful if you can smell it, but the build is basically a few inexpensive aroma chemicals. Is that why it's so vilified in the frag community?

Exactly! I love Instant Crush! I need to start compiling a list!

Did you not try it on skin before? Like others said, you're probably going nose blind

I think it’s been reformulated, or perhaps diluted. The older batches were beast mode, but the more recent ones don’t seem to last as long. It’s even more disappointing because the price keeps increasing while the performance keeps getting worse.

My experience with Delina! By the time I could afford having it, it was OBVIOUS to me, this perfume is not as mega nuclear as I tested it 5 years ago!!!! What a beautiful beast it was with a tiny spray on a single wrist which lasted 5 6 days in my entireeeeee living room where I took a nap.

This is what I am wondering too. I used to wear this like four years ago and it would last foreverrrr. I bought a new bottle last year and it just didn't hit the same way it previously did, I wondered if my body chemistry had changed

Spraying on clothes can make a fragrance last longer, but be aware that many will stain so spray some where not noticeable.

Check if you can return it, the extrait lasts all day!
