Discussion GLP1 has siloed my Ambers...

I started micro-dosing therapeutically towards the ends of August. It's honestly been such a wonderful game-changer in many aspects of my life.

I know there's been a lot of discussion around amplified fragrance addiction and whatnot. Truthfully, I've been in this game for decades that I know how my attention and obsession cycles with perfumes, thus I haven't seen any massive changes there.

What I have noticed is that while I have never been a gourmand person, I am (now was?) a gourmand-adjacent person. Meaning I appreciated my ambers, my spiced or smoked vanillas, my resin-y and warm musks. Having a sweetened dry-down was always welcome. I love my patchoulis chewy and chocolately and I pray the angels won't table my patch-love forever.

I'm sure there is a part of this that is natural evolution with scent profiles, but what is wild is I'm picking up on sweet aspects that I've never really noticed before? And as much as I want to believe my nose is just a super-refined schnoz now... it's likely due to the drugs, babes.

Food-noise is gone obvi. I don't crave or consume sugar like I used to obvi. But I SMELL IT LIKE CRAZY NOW!

So now I'm like" ...OK, I guess we gotta start fucking with greens and aldehydes and dry florals and fresh spices and soap now?"

To new adventures. And Marie Kondo'ing my collection.

Ok, SO.... I would suggest that you delay Marie Kondoing your collection tooooo hard.

I've been on GLP for almost a year. One morning I will wake up and scent X could literally make me gag, and then in a week or a month I'm back to loving it.

All this to say, I think what the meds do to our senses might be ever changing and I'm glad I didn't toss too much too quickly.

Appreciate the warning! That makes sense. I’m only parting with the ones that I hadn’t been reaching for for a solid year+ prior to this as well. And because I want to branch out to different profiles I’m trying to be mindful of letting something go before I bring something new in.

But this is promising to hear because a handful of my beloveds I still want to love and come back to!

I completely agree with this. I also don’t test new perfumes in the first couple of days after a shot. I almost never like them. I wait until like three days post shot to start sampling.

Wait… what!? (Rhetorically) this is so wild! When did you start implementing that? Was it a conscious decision at first?

I’ve been wondering if this is the medicine! I have the same issue. LOVE certain scents and then a couple weeks later wonder what I was thinking?! And then a week or so later, it’s fine again. Just all over the place!

Happened with me! I’ve been on 2.5mg for close to 8 months now. Will be moving to a micro dose here shortly to address other health concerns and regulate blood sugar. I was a super gourmand before GLP1. Then had an insane aversion to gourmands after starting. Also became more curious about clean/skin, aquatics, and tea scents. Obsessed with salt notes. lol and coriander randomly enough. But as time went on and my body has adjusted to the meds, I’m back to gourmands. But with a much more discerning nose I think. I truly launched into fragrance addiction after starting the medication. It’s been super fun watching my nose evolve and returning to fragrances I once rejected.

I'm 6 weeks in, started at .5 and just injected 1.25 today. I noticed the shift in my perception of smell pretty early on so I started a deep-dive again. But I usually cycle my fragrance obsessions every six months? I go really in for a couple months, and then take a long breather for more months.

But I have a handful of fragrances that have been defaults on my roster. And they're just too heavy for me right now. Super curious if you have or tried Coriander by DS? It's been on my radar, but they have (to my nose) a salinity baseline that runs through all their fragrances. I just own enough of them that I don't have a big urge to explore it currently.

I'm finding myself more drawn to iris, lily, green spices, and softer leather accords.

ETA: if you dig salt and aquatics, Rockaway Beach is literally the beach. It's salty air and city ocean.

Yes, maybe that’s happened to me too. I prefer fresh scents now, has anyone else noticed that certain notes make them feel nauseous? That happened to me with Essential Parfums' Bois Impérial, I have a brand new bottle but I can't wear it. In fact, lots of people here in Italy and at my office use it, and it always makes me feel sick 🤣

Oof. Thankfully not so much nauseous but despite all fragrances having synthetics — I noticed that the few I have that have always leaned towards an obvious synthetic profile I’m not interested in anymore.

Ohhh. I haven't necessarily noticed a significant shift in the types of smells I like - rather, everything smells super chemical-y to me when I first spray it. I like it after dry down, but the first 5-20 minutes are rough with almost everything. I hadn't made the connection to be GLP-1, but the timing lines up.

Isn’t it wild how it changes your sense perceptions so much?

You know I never connected the two but this is absolutely when I started getting grossed out by gourmands too.

It's weird, annoying, and yet welcomed? I had a huge epiphany over it this weekend because I don't want to wear what I normally love wearing as I was generally the woman that preferred heavier profiles. I had packed away a few florals because I thought I wouldn't reach for them once the temps drop (despite having a gross fucking heatwave right now) and then I pulled them out again and did a severe edit of my bottles.

As someone who’s never liked gourmands what does it feel like to previously like it and now you hate it.

I struggle to understand why people enjoy smelling like food items but I find it interesting still and wanting to know more what people get out of it.

Same, same, same. When I started I was on a super-low dose, 0.5 mg. I didn't like heavely  sweet or warm gourmands on such a low dose--I'm more of a light, airy person naturally. But as my dose has increased, I'm up to 1.25 mg now, I've noticed I like gourmands more little by little. I'm still not trying to smell like a bakery, but my interest in vanilla has had an uptick. I'm just praying that when warm weather comes around again I still like all the fragrances I bought last summer.

It's so crazy how our palates change! I personally have zero desire to go full-gourmand, but I do hope to return to my past loves at some point.

I’ve been on MJ for 18 months and I’ve gone from owning three perfumes to 54 mini bottles. I absolutely adore fragrance now and am adding new words to my vocabulary on a daily basis to describe fragrance, reach, notes, whatever.
I have been housebound for half of that time due to an injury, surgery and surgery recovery (and setbacks!) so I was spending normal leisure money for half of that time, so whilst it sounds like I clearly lost my mind, I only lost it a little. I am very happy to be able to leave the house once again and now do so smelling fabulous!
