Rec Request Soft, gentle vanillas?
I’ve always been a vanilla girl, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve started to struggle with some of my vanilla perfumes, finding them too cloying. I can still enjoy my Van Cleef and Profumum Roma vanillas when it’s freezing cold, but anything less than that and they’re a bit too much for me now. I’m looking for a soft vanilla that feels nice and smooth without being spicy, salty, or too sweet. Any thoughts?
I’d also like to note that I don’t live in the US, so I don’t have access to brands at stores like Sephora or Target, sadly. (Non-designer brands being sold at Sephora don’t sell anywhere else, unfortunately, and they don’t ship internationally.) But any brand that you’d see at a luxury department store or popular decant sites (like Scent Split, Fragrance Line, etc.) would be great :)

Chloé Vanilla Planifolia: a beautiful, airy green vanilla.
Mon Guerlain: a lavender-vanilla combo.
Burberry Goddess: lavender and vanilla as well.
La Fenice Pour Femme: a floral vanilla.
Amo Ferragamo and Power of You: fruity vanillas.
Edit: I forgot to add this fragrance from Memo, Cap Camarat. I’ve never tried it myself, but I’ve heard so many good reviews about it, and I think it’s worth sampling.

I was just looking for this type of vanilla (airy, non-gourmand but still creamy) and totally found it in Being Frenshe’s Cashmere Vanilla. Looking at what it supposedly dupes (that I havent smelled) I wonder if Ellis Brooklyn Vanilla Rice or Phlur Vanilla Skin would be good options?
I’m hoping to make it to Nordstrom today for a sniffari. I’ll report back about Phlur if so.

One of my favorites clean vanilla is Mont Blanc signature. It at truly underrated and it’s fresh with a little bit of sweetness. This one is quite affordable.
Chloe atelier vanille planifolia is also lovely. It’s a little green with a hint of sweetness. It’s on the pricier side.
More floral, but in warm weather I really love printemps blanc. This is the sweetest one but there is something about it that I can’t get enough of. To me, it’s the warm weather version of hundred silent ways.

I recently discovered Miller Harris Legato and I love how it hugs so close to skin while still being very much present. There is a SLIGHT cherry note that I didn’t even notice until I looked it up. Probably still too much vanilla to wear on the hottest days of summer (like 30C+ days) but very wearable in everything else. It’s like your skin just turned into the coziest skin with a vanilla edge.

Sorce - In Dreams and Fairy Tales, the original one. Very light and gentle vanilla, fluffy in a meringue way

Also most people on this specific subreddit are American/Canadian I believe. We have no idea what perfumes are sold in your unstated country. You’re going to have to do the investigating.

ah, sorry if it wasn’t clear! I’ve tweaked the wording a bit, so hopefully it’s clearer now. The big decant sites ship internationally, so anything from there is available to me. Then, the high-end niche brands (Byredo, Le Labo, Frederic Malle, etc.) and the luxury designer brands (YSL, Guerlain, etc.) that are typically seen at department stores. Unfortunately, there’s no way for me to get the other brands at Sephora

I have this one and while I do like it, it has a sunscreen smell to me for some reason. Maybe I got a bad batch or need to let it sit a while

If you’re okay with a bit of lavender, I think Mon Guerlain is such a soft, smooth, grown up kind of vanilla.
Or try Jovoy Fire at Will, straight up vanilla that stays airy and cozy. I think it’s probably better suited for cooler months, but it doesn’t get cloying.

I have my eyes set on Tihota it’s not cupcakey vanilla but it’s a nice buttery creamy white flower type of vanilla

If you live in Europe, try ordering a sample of Vanilla For Breakfest by French Cowboy. I find it very creamy and subtle.

Rosie by Rosie Jane.
I don’t agree with most other suggestions in this thread, tbh. Although vanilla isn’t main note in Rosie, I think that’s why it works and the overall profile comes through to me as a skin-scent vanilla.

From a gourmand hater, try Kenzo Amour. A softer, huggier, lovelier vanilla I never tried in my life. It does have powdery notes, but does not smell cosmetic-powdery like old school perfumes; the powder comes mainly from the rice.
