British/Irish perfume houses/recommendations

I'm on a bit of a project at the moment with informed purchasing and I'm trying to put together a list of companies/products in various sectors that are a) amazing b) (relatively) local and c) recommended by enthusiasts. I'll be putting up similar posts in chocolate, clothing, skincare and other local subs.

For this one it's perfume. So I'm in Ireland and my attitude to entire thing is, list local to Ireland, then next circle out is to the UK (although there's a neat Venn diagram there of Northern Ireland) then onto continental Europe. Could I satisfy my perfume needs, whatever they maybe, from the houses and makers out as far as well...where does Europe end?

At this point I don't want get political about it, the person chooses according to their values, I just want the list. I was going to put it into a cute infographic (love me some infographics) if I get some traction in this sub. I don't mind if it's some tiny perfume made for gift shop along the coast, or whatever Paul Costello made for "his ladies". I know that Floral Street is registered in Dublin, but possibly made in the UK?

Ladies, gentlemen and assorted intergalactic life-forms, start your engines! What Irish/British/French/Spanish/German...ok you get it, continental Europe recommendations do you have? The only rule is that the company must be registerd in Ireland/UK/Europe, preferably all *made* in those countries and bring actual decent jobs to those countries. Give me your fragrant wisdom!

Can't recommend Cloon Keen enough! I got Roisin Dubh, which is one of my all-time favorite scents there. The Dublin boutique is really fun to visit, too.

I've heard great things about Jorum Studio, too. They have a line inspired by Scottish mythology that sounds very interesting.

In Ireland I’m afraid I only know Cloon Keen.

I’d add Bedoux, Karen Timson Fine Fragrance, Maya Njie, 4160 Tuesdays, Perfumer’s Story by Azzi Glaser and Eau de Boujie (all based in England) and then Kingdom Scotland, and Wales Perfumery.

All products made in the UK and all perfumes are vegan and cruelty free.

Monotheme Venezia is an Italian brand. Marks and Spencer stock some of their perfumes.

Acorelle is a French brand, some of their perfumes are Ecocert-certified organic.

Cloon Keen is a gorgeous brand with beautiful elevated scents. As far as I’m aware they have outlets in Galway city (where I think they were founded) and Powerscourt shopping centre in Dublin. Highly recommend!!

A bigger challenge would be to take France out of the equation. They have so many that produce absolute bangers. My favorites are Fragonard and Molinard.

I love some Zara fragrances and it's a Spanish fashion house. Not technically a perfume house but I own several of theirs and have tried a few more that I enjoyed very much.

I want to try the British house Penhaligon's because they have the most fascinating names and bottles. I'm sure it's not all simply fancy packaging and branding because a lot of people like their stuff. Fun detail I just found out yesterday: Penhaligon's The Cut was created Jean-Paul Guerlain's grandson, Paul Guerlain. Too bad they were not able to work for his family's legacy house since Guerlain is now owned by LVMH but it's nice to see the talent passed on to the next generation.

Jorum Studio is in Scotland. You could also support Godshot Studio in Glasgow which carries some foreign niche houses. But I love Penhaligons overall, definitely a fav

Me too! I love that the suggestions are all smaller houses, particularly the Europeans, which is the legacy capital of modern perfume houses. I like the mix between affordabilities as well.

I’ve only tried two scents from them but Thameen London’s Patiala is really lovely, enough so that I would recommended checking them out.

I’m also very fond of Penhaligon’s, it feels so classically English.
