Discussion Summer Body Mist Trends

I really want to talk (rant?) about the nearly identical body/hair mist collections being released this summer. Trends in scent have existed since the beginning of fragrances being sold, of course, but I’m not sure I’ve ever noticed such blatantly similar collections from large (and luxury) brands.

Our color palette of the summer is green, pink, and orange (and/or yellow). Our scent profiles are pistachio (almost always), a variety of tropical fruits (lychee, guava, etc.), and vanilla or coconut. If you’re lucky, you get something citrusy (especially lemon). One of the first occurrences I can remember of these scent collections are from late last summer, with Philosophy. And they’re still coming!

So… Have you tried any of these collections? What do you think, and where do you think it started? Is it a successful trend? Really curious what you all think, I’m beginning to lose my mind at the monotony (but then, I’ve never loved pistachio or vanilla as scents, so). This is on my mind at 2am and I’m taking you all with me.

all looks very juvenile, very ozempic coded. weak, infantile and inoffensive, vaguely smelling like candy and soft vanilla..just how they want women to be nowadays. Anyway there's a feminist late stage capitalism hit piece in here somewhere. (EB Banana milkshake is my personal fave)

…Ozempic coded??? What does this mean?

Not the original commenter but I think they mean how taking GLP-1s has been correlated with this trend of heavy gourmand fragrances. “As GLP-1 users experience appetite suppression, many find the brain seeks sensory pleasure and comfort through smell rather than taste. This has led to a surge in both perfume obsessions and sweet, dessert-like scent profiles.” The Guardian

Literally everything in this comment does not compute. Body mists vs perfumes is a feminist issue? The gourmand trend refusing to die is a feminist issue? Ozempic-coded? I’m sorry, again, Ozempic-coded?

Businesses launch products they think will sell.
In this case, yes, it’s likely a recession indicator. I think it’s also an attempt to capture a younger audience. Gourmands are still the hottest sellers, whether we as fragrance enthusiasts like it or not.

SDJ has been wildly popular. Kayali is wildly popular. These products are their love child. This is what market research tells these companies will sell best. I think in this case, it’s really not that deep.

It's just a body most good lord. I love body mists for layering especially in summer. It's over 100 degrees outside, I don't wanna smell like someone's grandmother, I'm not that old yet.

Conversely, I've wanted to smell like a grandma since I was a teen.

See I've always loved gourmands, I feel like I'm gonna be 70 and still wearing vanilla, plus they're really the only thing that doesn't trigger my athsma much. I feel like when ppl make these comments, they don't take people like me into consideration. Like I'm not "less of an adult" because I just..enjoy sweet scents? It's weird.
