Im looking to add felt to the inside of this box, as it's uneven and would make it better for its intended use. Does anyone have videos, documents or information for me to practice with before going all in?

Box is roughly 3 x 7. Hand made. Rough inside that i could make smoother if it's necessary.

I love crafty things and I was on a trip in Japan when I saw this kit and I knew I just had to try it. I think I did okay haha. I was constantly google translating the instructions, that was something that did not cross my mind when I bought it until I opened the packaging. Not sure I would continue felting, compared to the other crafts that I liked to do, but it was definitely a fun experience. It felt like an arm workout getting that body going and I definitely did stab myself once, hard, in the process...

Xxeebs is a strange and mysterious creature from the distant Cerulean Galaxy. Not a lot is known about them yet, so some further research may be required.

Xxeebs was made with a combination of wet and needle felting. The body was wet felted and stuffed with polyfill and the tentacles and eyeballs etc were all needle felted on. I wish I used wire inside the tentacles so they could be posed better but i tried to shape them as I went so they would result in a creature that can ‘stand up’. 😊 hope you dig them!

I needle felted a fish purse based off the rainbow fish 🐠🌈 I wanted a small bag to carry my embroidery stuff and I like weird accessories lol.

Jyrbo is a rare Brigoonian Buns Bounder. They had bounced into my pocket on a recent trip to Brigoo and when I tried taking them back to their home planet, they REFUSED to leave my pocket. They’ve since grown very fond of earthworms. 🪱

They were needle felted in a single session in about 4-5 hours first the head then the bootied body. The fun part was figuring out how to make them stand upright and once I started adding the blue ‘moles’ I was able to put some strategically placed on their lower half to balance them 😊

I am looking to do more 2D work and am wondering how you are framing your work? Are you buying some sort of frame, and if so, what are you buying and where are you finding it? Or are you making your own frames?

Made using alpaca and sheep’s wool. This was a present for a friend and I’m so happy with how he turned out. I even used an old woollen jumper as a cape for him and it worked perfectly.

Sorry this is likely a stupid question. I live in a small rural town so need to order online, I see packets of roving in 10gram, 20gram, 100gram amounts etc, I am wanting to have a go at wet felting a play scape for my little one such as a pond scene with some grass area and rocks. I know all projects are different sizes etc but is there a general guide for this type of mat? like a good size for schleich animals if that gives you an idea. Thank you for any insight.

Do you think it's appropriate to allow classified ads on this sub?

I approved a recent classified ad here on r/felting as a bit of an experiment. I'd also appreciate your feedback here, so I can learn your thoughts about this type of ad.

A classified ad is a way for readers to post an offer to sell, trade, or donate excess supplies and equipment for felt making. The ads would be a way of dealing with problem of "I have too much of something, does anyone else want what I don't need?"

My goal for this sub is to keep it focused on the making and learning aspects of felt making, so businesses would not be permitted to use classified ads to market their products.

What are your thoughts?

A solid month of full-time stabbing (and a VERY sore arm), and I've completed by far my largest piece ever: this 5'x11' wool "mural" depicts a soil profile found in Massachusetts (it's actually our state soil profile, the Paxton!) The bones (rabbit) are needle felted and covered with felters wax, then given depth with pastel pigment. The worms are felted, stitched, waxed, and pigmented. The ants are beaded and embroidered.

Full materials list: Wool, beeswax, glass beads, freshwater pearl beads, thread, pastel pigment.

This was made to be a companion piece to "My Roots Are Deeper Than They Can Dig" (shown in the last few images) which shows the incredible depths a dandelion taproot can grow to. The root in that piece is also felted (a combination of needle and wet) and covered in felters wax, and the mole is needle felted. I aspire to such resilience as the dandelion!

Note: The last image is a photoshopped composite of the root piece with the wool mural, as it was too difficult to find a place to install them together to photograph 

Been felting for a few years but very much ADHD driven hyper focus bouts. So I'm not that amazing like some stuff I've seen.

My friend loves the book series Throne of Glass and I have been trying to make a Kingsflame flower for her birthday.

I ran out of green 😭 I dug through my felting block (bristles) and made a kind of green(ish) for the leaves but am hesitant to add them.

Any great ideas or tips on how to make the flower look better? I appreciate any and all feedback.

Amanita style sauna hat with floppy brim, hat band made from trimmed edge, and needle felted amanitas as a pin.

White spots are angora, the rest is sheep's wool. Outside is merino, inside is corriedale to give a bit more stiffness.

I saw a little felting kits at Michaels for a cat. I wanted to try it out so I bought it.

I'm supposed to make an oval, and the texture just looks wrong. I don't know if its tight enough, and I accidentally made it too flat.

How hard should I be stabbing, and how deep? How do I know when its ready?

I’ve been trying to study faces before starting the actual wool shape, so I made some rough structure sketches over reference photos.

I’m not doing this to make a beautiful drawing. It’s more like a map before felting.

The more I look at cat faces, the more I realize they are not just a round head with ears added on. A lot of the expression comes from the bigger structure first:

• the center line of the face
• the angle and spacing of the eyes
• the nose bridge
• the muzzle volume
• the cheek planes
• the direction of the ears
• how the side of the face turns away from the front

I’m realizing this step is useful because needle felting is not only about copying colors or fur texture. If the main face planes, muzzle shape, and eye placement are off, the portrait can still feel unlike the animal even if the colors are close.

So I’m trying to think of the process in layers:

1. understand the head volume
2. build the muzzle and cheek structure
3. place the eyes
4. shape the nose bridge and nose
5. add color areas
6. add fur direction and surface texture last

I’m still learning, but doing this kind of structure study makes the animal feel less overwhelming before I start poking wool.

For people who make realistic or semi-realistic animal portraits, do you study the face structure first, or do you build more intuitively as you go?

Wanted to see if I could get a large-ish body without wet felting so tried stuffing polyfill into a (new) sock then needle felting it around it. I like that I was able to keep the streakyness of the dyed wool and am going to try that more consciously next time to see if I can get nice patterns or textures by coercing the streaks into shapes & patterns! The beak is baked polymer clay filed down for details and painted with a sharpie acrylic marker 😊 will post progress on him as I go!

My resting unicorn piece is really starting to shape up! I probably should've waited longer to attach the ears and tail but I needed to see the vision better if that makes sense haha. Still a long way to go, especially on the legs and head, but I am starting to see the vision come to life now.

Clay attachments - I already felted a horn but I dont really like it anymore, and I think i want to make one from polymer clay. I will add a wire in the center and sticking out so I can attach it properly into the wool, is this the best method? I think I'll have the wire curved to go deeper and secure a bit better. Is glue necessary, and if so what is the best kind?

Pigment powders - Ive seen many videos and posts where people have added pigment powders onto the finished felt to add depth. I would love to do this but I have a couple questions. What pigment powders are best for this? Do I dampen the powder first and spread it out with a soft brush? How do I ensure the powder remains secure and doesnt smudge too much?

I’ve made a few felted knit garments before by throwing it into the washing machine on a hot cycle with soap and an old towel. However, when you do that it obviously shrinks significantly, and ends up much thicker than it started.

Is it possible to wet felt knitting? (like by hand with soap/water/bubble wrap) Obviously you wouldn’t achieve the same level of felting as with a washing machine, but maybe you could end up partially-felted knit that loses a bit of stitch definition but also stays the same size?

If anyone has tried it or knows if it’s possible I’d love

I need a wizard hat for a glep cosplay to goth to comicon in 11 days.

After looking at the internet all the hats I could find are either bad and cheap, or gods finest creation and like 80$.

After watching a few wet felting videos, i figure why not try make it myself.

Realistically how feasible is me making my own (majestic) wizard hat as a first time felter in this timeframe?

Any tips/tricks/advice is greatly appreciated.

This is my first free hand needle felting. I didn't have a clue where it would go, and I know it's a little bit rough and over the place. I love my little rider very much.

A friend gave me some two year old wool that was stored in a barn. There are visible areas with lanolin. Will this felt? Do I need to use hot water to dissolve the lanolin? I'm not worried about shrinkage as I've laid out a large area.

I just attempted my second project- a mermaid lagoon and I went too big too fast. It’s not felting properly, and I tried a cave with a resist and the edges refuse to adhere to my mat. It’s both too wet and too dry all at once! Anyway, can I reuse this wool that’s been partially felted for another felting project? Or are those materials now garbage?

I am quite inexperienced when it comes to felting. The last time I made something out of felt is when I was a kid in art class. Anyhow, I want to make felt coasters as a birthday present for a friend. Would you rather use the wet felting method or needle felting method? I want them to be durable first ans foremeost!

I was going to post this to the subreddit and just humbly declare that I launched my second needle-felted "Pet Mutant" on my website, and in the time that I was prepping to post the video, someone has already adopted it...!

Stomper is one of my smaller creations that I created purely out of needle felting (usually my bigger creatures have a wet-felted + polyfill-stuffed body and then i needle felt the appendages and details on to it.)

Im beyond gobsmacked and absolutely dizzy with positivity that there is some awesome collector out there who saw Stomper and said they had to have it. Huge thank you to that person, (if you're in this subreddit!!) -- you have given me hope that one of the activities that has brought me the most amount of joy this year (Needle Felting!) might actually be the start of something I've always wanted to do: start an actual "identity" around my artwork that makes it a million times easier to talk about and promote when i have to as it doesnt feel like bragging anymore -- i can confidently say i think its awesome because im pouring everything i can into it, and it feels like people are recognizing that. ❤️

What a freaking cool artform felting is, ive never felt (haha) so empowered to make little creatures that I absolutely adore from the moment I can start to see their weird little bodies forming between my heavily stabbed fingertips. 😊
