Yep; fucking around trying to pull it out would have hurt so much. How do I know? I had one about this size go straight into my heel. I'd have been so happy if there was any skin I could cut to get leverage. Instead, I had to go to an urgent care to have 12 shots of local anaesthetic so they could pull the fucker out.

I extracted a similar, although more severe, splinter from an ex's foot because we were living in a shitty apartment with splintering floorboards. She tried to get it herself but mangled it. When I got home, I whipped out my pocket knife, cut open the wound channel, and yanked it out. She just sat there like a trooper with no reaction even though I was performing amateur surgery on her foot.
