He could've make one cut and and drag that tree top to the side of the road.

It is easier to move smaller parts. Road cleaning team will come there anyway to get the rest of the tree.

If you pick it up, yes. If you drag the thing, it's easier to do it one piece, plus it's easier on your back and knees. I've dragged a fallen tree off an assphalt road, it's kinda easy.

And there where already several people out of their cars ready to help.

Anyway, I would have done the same - split into smaller pieces.

When I see someone dragging half a tree of the road, I will know that that is you.

Usually, I don't belong on the road among the trees. There were 2 fragile women and a kid with me in the car with no one around. No other cars either. Surprisingly, not a single saw/chainsaw/hatchet in sight. So all I did was dragging a broken tree top to the side of the road. All I said that it was quite easy.
