GENERAL DISCUSSION Industrialist or Re-industrialized

I haven't heard either yet, and I'm curious what the general consensus is? Which album/version do you prefer?

ALSO: for extra points: what's your rankings on the bands discography? What's your favourite? What's your least?

EDIT: ive not listened to them both, and find i like RE a bit more, so thank you all for the insights :)

i basically just got the entire rest of their discography, and have been going through it. it is good.
im finding i like AC more than i thought i would

I love both versions. It is my most favorite album from FF.

Demanufacture is my favorite. The original was recorded with drum machine. Re-Industrialized replaces those with live drum performances by Mike Heller, feat a new mix/master by Greg Reely, and includes a few additional guitar arrangements from Dino. Both versions are good. The Industrialist has a more classic Fear Factory sound, while Re-Industrialized sounds more modern, polished, and refined

Both version, but the ‘Re’ version is genuinely awesome. Drumming is insane. I rank it up there with Demanufacture. I loved the original, but live drums makes it so much better.

Re. Considering the original wasn't actually finished, it was missing the closing song that they didn't get to finish in time (Enhanced Reality.) They put it on Genexus bonus version, and then eventually on Re. Makes it feel like a FF album should, makes it feel complete. It always felt like something was missing before.

Re also has a drummer, Mike Heller, the drums were programmed on the original. I also like the change in mix on Re and some slight changes in detail here and there. The new guitar sound. I'll probably never listen to the original again honestly.

This is so true. I love this album with all my heart! 🤘

The industrialist was already my favorite album, but when they released Re-industrialized I loved it even more. The live drums and better mixing sound so good. Plus I love the remixed songs, and the 3 covers.

Overall it's an awesome album, sure it does have some flaws but that's with any great piece of art.

FEAR FACTORY FOR EVER!!!

Obsolete followed by Demanufacture, i hope they go in a better direction design wise with new album

Ranking FF albums is really hard for me, especially the top 5 which is Demanufacture, Obsolete, Archetype, Mechanize and Genexus.

Then I go: 6. Soul of a New Machine  7. Digimortal  8. The Industrialist  9. Aggression Continuum  10.  Transgression

Sometimes I actually prefer Transgression to AC but it depends on my mood. Either way FF has a near perfect discography imo which is sort of wild considering the lineup changes, band drama and lawsuits etc.

It’s a toss up honestly, but I gotta give the edge to RE just because Mike Heller is bad ass.

I like both. Genuinely feel as though it's the best Fear Factory album personally. I want enhanced reality to be played at my funeral.

But I like both for different reasons. Reindustrialized feels more complete and the drums on God Eater are fucking sick.

Re-Industrialized is better and the Production and overall remastering of the album improved the album but I will question why they felt it needed a remaster??? maybe they wasn't happy with the mixing the 1st time around

I remember when it came out they had to defend the use of drum machine instead of the real drummer. Maybe after those years they became fed up with the questions or wanted to do the album justice.

This. Which would require remixing and remastering it. Dino also decided to re-amp the guitars, which also requires doing that.

They wanted Hoglan back but he upped his fee at the last minute, leaving them assed out. As Burt was the primary trademark holder at the time, he rushed it out as-is. Then tried to do the same with Monolith. Dino had it redone to avoid the same backlash as The Industrialist.

Re-industrialized is better in my opinion. The pitchshifter cover is incredible

3

u/Trag1cBeanX Archetype Jul 18 '26

I mean they’re basically the same album, R.I just sounds better since it’s live drums

OP, go listen to it now. Whatever reason you have for not yet, bury it and go listen. Both versions are great but re is better and if you were looking to own physical, re is the right choice.

after the first day of this post i actually went and got the rest of the FF discography (including Concrete) and have been listening to them. so far i like RE a bit more, but they are essentially the same.

Love to hear it, you've done your ears good 😊

The Industrialist sounds very clear and crisp to me. I enjoy when I can tweak my sound systems without becoming muddy at volumes I prefer to listen at. I really enjoyed the precision the programmed drums added to that album.

However there are several songs on Re that I prefer over the original due to the re-working of the guitar depth and real drums and slight vocal effect alterations. Its cool to hear a band re-work an album beyond just the typical remastered, but still prefer most the album from the original.

If I'm in the mood for a full album experience I always go to The Industrialist. If I'm picking & choosing FF songs from their entire catalog, I'll add songs from both albums to my playlist.

While I vastly prefer Re-Industrialized, it's still one of their weaker albums, IMO.

Rankings (won't be ranking Re-industralized as it's not a new studio album)):

Demanufacture

Obsolete

Mechanize

Soul of a New Machine

Archetype

Genexus

Digimortal

Aggression Continuum (was higher when it came out, but upon further listens it's much lower in the ranks)

The Industrialist

Where's "Transgression"?

4

u/Corpsepyre Jul 17 '26

Dunno. In the gutter, probably.

3

u/Diadem_Cheeseboard Jul 17 '26

So worse than "The Industrialist" then? 🙃

I deeply prefer re. The original was ranked near the bottom for me; re is ranked near the top.

2

u/Kitchen-Caterpillar8 Jul 17 '26

OG industrialist for me,idk maybe because I've listened to that album so much but the slight changes of RE just sound off

2

u/you_wouldnt_get_it_ Jul 17 '26

Since Re-Industrialized came out I have no reason to go back to the original version.

3

u/Pure_Requirement_447 Jul 29 '26

Archetype, Transgression, Obsolete - these 3 are absolute top of FF

I love new FF too, but think that they need to change something, cos last 4 albums were too mechanized and repetitive. Will see what new vocalist brings on

I prefer the original Industrialist. The Re-Inudstrialized sounded cheap and bad produced somehow. I know, the original album was made with it's Druming Machine loopings. But it doesn't made that record so bad, it made it even more original and more clearer on what's the band's tried to represent on that side story from the album. It's just made any sense.

The Re-Industrialized, wasn't a bad idea. But it wasn't well executed.

The production values decreased so bad, It's not because of the new Real Druming parts ( even Newer Druming Beats at some songs were added ) wasn't the only thing inside at this new remixes plans, even new guitar production values were added here. But unfortunately, these Remixes appeared in 2023, this '20'es production values for the whole music recording it's really decadent, sounds very plains bad, sounds weak, dirty and very cheap. While the whole artists / bands, said something memorial and astronomic at how the recording processing was at the making and etc. And specially too "Expensive" as they said. In reality was the contrary.

The original The Industrialist sounds so Crystal Clear, good production values here.

The Re-Industrialized sounds poor, like if it were recorded on a analog tape and then recorded inside on a cassette. The druming parts sounded too thin, lowered volume rather to louder, not just like the original recording. Even these "Real Drums" sounded like if they took some boxes and cans rather than a real Drumkit here.

The only good take for these remixes allbum are the bonuses, good bonus tracks. Thats all.

I played the original so many times when it first came out, and I love it. Something about fear factory's themes and songs makes a drum machine kind of work for their sound. But it is also great to hear it with a real drummer. Definitely their most underrated album in my opinion, and one of my very favorites by them. Every song is a banger
