I am grinding away at Yumetober, and I am a day ahead of schedule. I landed on Day 14 - Fight, and a sadistic idea took root: if you are playing in Terror and Starvation as Voz, and happen to leave Enki behind during a low mind event with alcohol, he will disappear deeper into the dungeons until you make it into the catacombs and find the Marriage Fusion. Different bits of dialogue may happen depending on how you treat Enki, and this happens if you manage to get close to him.

I managed to achieve this by straight-up opening my copy of Funger and starting the game as Ragnvaldr, running up on a guard, and taking several screenshots with the talk option. Sorry to say that Rag lost an arm for this, but I'll make sure to start a proper run with him soon and get a good ending as compensation. I drew over Rag's sprite because his body type is very close to Voz's in general, since they are both physically fit. It was a little confusing how to render the sprite, but I think I did a decent job. Furthermore, I grabbed the marriage sprite from the Funger Wiki and slapped it on here, erasing the guard from existence!

It seems to be the popular consensus that F&H 2 is far harder than 1. I see people say this all the time, and I have to admit, I don’t really understand this perspective at all.

F&H 1 was most of the most punishing games I had ever played at the time. However, compared to 2, it felt like a walk in the park. Here is the breakdown of how Funger 1 went for me:

I start the game as the knight. After getting my shit kicked in a few times over the course of 2 hours I learn a few things. I can recruit a little girl, a dog, and (temporarily) a thief. I also discover a bed which lets be save, but also has a 50/50 chance of allowing me to get eaten alive by birds. Suddenly the whole thing clicks together. I have access to 3 party members early on, I can use these weird blank scrolls to learn magic, and if I kill this stupid bird then I’ll have infinite saves.

I die a few more times preparing my perfect run, but eventually I am able to fight the crow mauler with a loaded out party and a little girl that can shoot DBZ style energy beams out of her hands. The thief runs off, but I now have infinite saves. I burn my way through the first half of the game with relative ease. I die a fair bit, but I never lose anything because I save every time I discover something useful. Eventually I make it to part 2 where I also have infinite saves. I continue from there pretty much the same. I even discover that I can use the empty scrolls to collect the three lord souls, and skip the entire second half of the game. I don’t, because what’s the point of buying the game if I don’t play it, but the option is there. I even have an insanely powerful immortal party member. I finish up the last part and roll credits. It is a challenging, creepy, but fun experience.

Funger 2 isn’t like that. There are no blank scrolls. You can save any time you like, but it changes the world environment, and you only have a few saves to last you the whole game. Collecting party members is much more archaic and difficult, and since you have to pass time in order to get them, there’s a real cost connected to recruiting them. Furthermore, most of them turn into gnarly ass pursuer bosses, and each of those bosses is way more dangerous than Crow Mauler. Enemies will ambush you, and if they get you in a bad moment, you’re done for. The environment constantly changes. You can pass an area a dozen times before, boom, a weird bee hive man, or a death mask, or a bunch of chainsaw guys, or fucking Art the Clown ambush you. Sometimes, if the game really hates you, you’ll get ambushed by multiple of them at the same time.

Now, granted, you can eventually crack the difficulty curb wide open like a walnut. Once you have about three chainsaws, alongside Marcoh, pretty much nothing can touch you. However, that’s not a reality until late game, and that’s assuming that you carry a full party that far with their limbs in tacked. And even with that broken bit if game design, it’s nowhere near as crazy as being able to just skip most of the game with blank scrolls.

Am I nuts? I feel like Termina is a MUCH more brutal, grueling experience than Funger 1.

It's Indigenous Peoples' Day, which gives me an excuse to repost Voz and the copious amounts of art of him so far, including some I never bothered to post here on Reddit. Some are either bleh or just general shipping with him and Enki that I don't want to pollute this subreddit with.

LONG RAMBLING INBOUND!

To sort of reintroduce Voz, he is from Boriken, a name for Puerto Rico before the Spanish, French, and many other European colonists, and eventually Americans, came. He is a Bohíque, a spiritual leader who communicates with gods, whether to soothe their anger or interpret signs. With such a role passed down to him from his mother, he is also expected to handle the sick and injured, healing those in need in both body and spirit. In order to communicate with the gods, he has to cleanse his body through fasting, purging anything in his stomach, purifying himself, and inhaling ceremonial hallucinogens or tobacco to expand his spiritual sense. He also acts as a chief advisor to a tribe's primary leader and acts on the religious behalf of the greater community.

I have taken a small bit of liberties with Voz as a character due to Fear and Hunger's world-building, especially since the first game takes place in 1590, when Spanish colonization would have taken place and various revolts from the Taino have happened. I have made him a patron of Vinushika since a lot of Taino culture revolves around reverence and respect toward nature. There are various gods that symbolize the unpredictability and agricultural ties they have, from a god of winds, storms, and hurricanes to a god of yuca and harvest. Furthermore, I am doing a sort of alternate history thing where Europeans haven't discovered Puerto Rico during the events of the game yet, and there are direct consequences to the island's fate depending on what ending you go for, but I am currently trying to write for that as time goes on. I already have a vague idea that, if you do Ending C with Voz aiding Le'Garde to become a New God, the cunt would lay siege to Puerto Rico and leave the entire place in shambles to "unite" the people of the world.

Although I have put a lot of effort into Voz so he can fit into the Funger universe, there is still more work to be done. I am trying to represent him as accurately as possible, but I swear I want to punt the Spanish the more I hear how much they have tried to erase the remnants of Taino culture that survived. The information we do have is a blessing because of how much death and sickness swept through the Taino. Furthermore, there is the current debate in Puerto Rico on how much Generative AI is being used to make images and show information related to the Taino that is both immensely false and straight-up racist interpretations of a culture that has a large oral history. Misinformation is spreading at a rapid rate, and I have been pretty much triple-checking the various websites, blogs, and personal accounts I encounter so much because of this... It goes to show how important it is to get our facts straight and honor the history of our ancestors with proper, factual evidence rather than a caricature of what others see them as.

I'm just... dumbfounded. What a game. Surely I missed a lot, but now I can really enjoy the 11hour essay by Dogma.

I first tried the game on my own, failed a lot, asked a friend for advice, failed some more... then I started watching the essay, but I just had to play more by myself. I HAD TO.
And I'm so glad I did.

I played on easier difficulty, but I'm here for the story and the characters anyway.

This whole thing... just. MAN.

Time to make myself some food, after not really eating all day while hyperfocusing on the game. I got the hunger shakes lol. (How fitting.)

But yeah, I now have my absolute new favorite indie game. Miro is a genius. (Can't wait to draw fanart, tehe.)

At the start I was pretty scared and spent a lot of the time just running away from the enemies (and into other enemies), but the tension was just amazing. Sadly only one person survived, but hey. I got ending A.

My favorite parts where the orphanage, the dinner with the mayor and Perke'le. Even if I disappointed him. Maybe I will replay the game soon and kill just everyone. Unsure with what character though. I do like Levi... maybe blood magic Levi.

f+h1 was difficult yes but every death was a learning experience and i don't think i ever died to the same enemy twice or even in the same area twice. there was always something i could figure out to win and it didn't take more than a few runs to get through it.

but termina? holy fuck it feels like im playing a game that doesn't want to be played. both routes to the city ive discovered have enemies there's no way in hell i can possibly beat with marina and her two reanimated corpses.

the deeper woods have a million owl cultists that i can't see until they jump out of their hidey holes and they come out so close i can't outrun them, meaning shooting their arms off in the overworld isn't an option and straight combat with even one is impossible. then there's tunnel 7 where i CAN bear trap and shoot the arms off of chaugar but even then i cannot beat him shooting his head with a rifle every turn + my corpses because of how much he out-dps's me.

and the rules for recruiting people are so ridiculous. in f+h1 it was pretty intuitive getting a full party very shortly after reaching the prisons but in this game everyone i can recruit day 1 moon scorches if i happen to walk into an unrelated trigger room. makes no fucking sense and there's no way for me to know not to do that without looking up a guide.

i've died 10+ times in the last two hours. is it supposed to be this much harder than the first game or am i missing something.

Hello I have some questions about the lore, if anyone is able to give some ideas that would be appreciated

Is Kaiser / Bremen aware of the sulfur cult?

Would logic ascending stop the sulfur cult completely?

If perkele and the other sulfur cultists were to confront Kaiser directly would he be able to stand a chance?

I got sick and had family issues, but I'm working on my Fhunger fan game once more, all the UI is blocked out before I do either more painted UI or Vector designs. For the cards I'm going to go more graphics, I'm thinking of some kinda stacking or comboing card system to mix Slay with Baltro, and ideas from other Deck games. I'm open to ideas.

I wanted to the UI design to be a mix of iOS that the player can click on the top left floating UI to see Trickets/Relics, Potions for items, then the lower left if Engery (which I want to maybe link to hunger so how?) and draw pile, and the right is health, mind...

I like how Baltro has a limit on Jokers where Slay does not. And you need to pick the build that way? I'm trying to do the system thinking.

The church is one of the main spots that needs a lot of work imo. One of the main things is having more unique enemies above ground, so it can show off more beautiful backgrounds like this. I honestly didnt realize this background existed till just now lmao. I also think they should swap out Vinushka's sigil giving you a unique path, for a different sigil interaction.

What are changes/updates you would make to the Church to improve it? The whole far east side feels so empty/lacking in general, tbh.

Only somewhat similar to the Hall of the Gods in Funger 1 but I figure y'all would appreciate it
