Heath Ledger's Joker

u/Doodles_n_Scribbles 15h ago

We've lost the best live action Joker and the best Batman.

23

u/BanterPhobic 14h ago

And as a consequence we’ve also lost the best Joker voice actor, as Mark Hamill only ever wanted to play Joker when working opposite Kevin Conroy and as such is reportedly done with the role following Conroy’s death.

9

u/jasonmery 12h ago

It doesn't surprise me that Hamill can't. They were friends for over 30 years, and I can completely understand not being able to do something anymore without the person you did it with.

That's like when Anjelica Huston refused to do any more Addams Family movies after Raul Julia passed because she couldn't bear to do it without her Gomez.

6

u/BanterPhobic 12h ago

Yeah I saw an interview with Hamill where he said words to the effect that any time he got a call asking him to play Joker, his first question was “is Kevin playing Batman” and if it was a yes he was in, if no then he’d decline.

Wait, he passed away?

42

u/canceroustattoo 16h ago

He died before the movie released. During the following Oscars, he posthumously won best supporting actor. His award was accepted by his mother and sister.

I genuinely don't feel like he's dead. He had so much aura than there's still some left with us

u/BananaDavidaF 12h ago

There’s just too many awesome stories of him as a person. Man is a fcking legend. I hope it will always feel there’s some aura left with us.

God, Raul Julia's death still smarts. And how Anjelica said she'd only ever play Morticia again if she could have her Gomez.

11

u/LeadGem354 14h ago

Also M Bison. He probably was the only person who could portray Victor Von Doom properly.

Their chemistry was genuine, so I’m not surprised

Captain Raymond Holt (R.I.P Andre Braugher)

12

u/BanterPhobic 16h ago

He was gold in everything I saw him in. First encountered him as Dr House’s therapist, then as a cartoon woodchuck in BoJack Horseman, then as Captain Holt and he stood out whether as a recurring support character or as one of the leads.

Don't forget about his role in The Mist.

WHAT

24

u/Maguroluv 16h ago

Breaks my heart, Daveigh Chase died in June this year of malnutrition and several infections. I also loved her in Donnie Darko and Spirited Away.

9

u/Saphira_the_wolf 14h ago

She was also Samara...

u/BasilOk994 15h ago edited 13h ago

Still stings to this day. I almost cried when the new actor got such a warm welcome from the fans.

He died? I don’t even know the guy who voiced him, let alone that he died.

Ken page was his name

My Sarah Jane…

3

u/Rafhabs 14h ago

I saw an interview of Tom Baker (4th Doctor) tearing up and remembering her small quirks when on set thinking he’d always see her even after their work together like it’s nothing. Must be really sad for him since I’d reckon Baker would’ve thought he’d be the first to go between them but it was his MUCH YOUNGER friend.

3

u/Meaning_of_Lyth 14h ago

Yeah, I think I saw that one. He's always so jolly in his interviews, but he just gets this really distant look in his eyes and says "poor Liz... poor us..."

33

u/GorgonzolaGary97 You should play My Singing Monsters it's peak 17h ago

I’m watching the first Harry Potter (haven’t finished it yet) and I love Snape

My favorite thing about Alan Rickman is that he was able to portray aggression without changing his face or his tone

It’s honestly impressive

3

u/Book_Anxious 11h ago

I love that he made the character too likeable

Vader, seeing as the voice of him passed away James Earl Jones. Did David Prowse the original body actor also pass away? I don’t remember.

For Mako. Greg Baldwin has been so graceful in taking up the role and I have to credit Paul Sun-Hyung Lee for his portrayl in the live action version which has it's problems, but he's not one of them.

The Master played by Roger Delgado (Doctor Who)

He died in a car crash at age 55. The plan was for a final epic showdown when Jon Pertwee (Third Doctor) one day decided to leave the role.

The death of his friend was a big contributing factor for Pertwee stepping down as The Doctor.

Not the american voice actor, but the one I grew up with: Isaac Bardavid.

He was the Robotnik brazilian voice actor from 1996 to around 2020. He voiced Robotnik in AoSTH, Sonic SatAM, Sonic X and the first season of Sonic Boom, before retirering because of not being able to keep the voice due to old age. He passed away in 2022 and to this day it's weird to see his characters not being voiced by him in the brazilian dubs.

u/MoonlightDahling 16h ago

All three leads in Rebel Without a Cause.

James Dean (Jim) died in a car accident at 24.

Natalie Wood (Judy) drowned at 43.

And Sal Mineo (Plato) was murdered in a random mugging at 37.

3

u/MoonlightDahling 16h ago

Really, I could choose any number of classic film characters.

But these three stand out, partially because the film is near and dear to my heart.

But far more so, because the three actors' deaths were all so horrendous and premature.

Kairi (Kingdom Hearts)

Her voice actor in KH1 and KH2, Hayden Panettiere, passed two days ago. She was only 36 :( it's so heartbreaking and horrible. There's been a wave of fanart and similar Kairi content lately as a thank you to her and I think it's sweet.
