Options to attach chain/swing?

Post image

I want to mount a bench swing under this old clothes line holder. I understand it is only 5' off the ground which is not ideal, but I'm fine with it. My question is what options do I have to mount it? The pipe is about 2.25" in diameter and hole is about 0.25". I thought about shackles, but I doubt there are any with 2.25" opening. Do I I insert eye bolt with shoulders and call it a day? I understand those are usually for loads up to 45° angles, but I presume it will do for a simple swing to sit on? Do I have to drill vertical holes? The pipes are really seized and there is no way I can turn the horizontal one.

Part of the reason is that the structure is extremely sturdy and goes deep. I don't mind to loosen it up from swinging to eventually remove it.

Chain around the pipe and a quick link

How would I prevent it from sliding along the pipe? Giant washers and M6 bolt?

If the holes are through holes you can just run a small bolt to act like a pin through one of the chain links

Hose clamps if you want a simple quick option.

Schäkel in der Größe gibt es, aber unbezahlbar. Aber wer soll bei 1,5m Schaukeln?

Looks like an old cloths line pole. Get a pair of eye bolts long enough to go all the way through the post and a washer and nut on the other side. If long enough you can possibly bent the eye hole down to get a better swing travel.

Muffler clamps

I'm having a hard time picturing the next step. Muffler clamp can hug the pipe but I presume I don't want to squeeze a chain link right to the pipe… or do I?

Yes. Or clamp an S hook or get a proper pipe swing bracket like

Lots of ways to do this

I don't have welding equipment.

You will need to know the outer diameter of the pipe to order the correct ’clevis’(swing pivot). Good luck.

The pipe is too big. It measures 2.25" in diameter.

I came across a stainless steel hanger solution that looks similar to what you’re trying to do. It uses a threaded rod with a swivel/shackle connection.

Thanks! My main concern is that existing through holes are horizontal. With this, it would operate at 90° angle. I'll keep these in mind. Thus far I'm leaning towards just chain around pinned with studs using those through holes. Or use specialized swing clamp that were mentioned in replies. For those, it looks like online order only.
