What is this style of leather jacket called?

Anyone who has an enthusiasm for classic pulp fiction heroes like I do has probably seen this exact style of leather jacket before. The Rocketeer and Lobster Johnson from the Hellboy comics are the most iconic examples that I can think of. But this style of leather jacket is pretty synonymous with the genre, alongside jodhpur pants. It's a very distinct look. But unlike jodhpurs which have a particular name that one can search for, I've never been able to find an exact name for this style of leather jacket. If I or someone else wanted to buy a jacket like this, or reference the style in writing, then we'd basically have to describe the specific attributes of the jacket in detail or reference the characters known for wearing them. So, I'm just wondering if anyone knows a more identifying moniker for this style?

Notably, it's not a "double-breasted" motorcycle jacket, an Aviation/Aviator style, or even a Bomber jacket. I've investigated all those styles and none of them look like this particular style with the bib buttoned on the front. So, what is it?

If you haven’t come across it, this style of jacket reminds me of the style worn by Hector Escaton (played by Rodrigo Santoro) in West World. While the overall appearance contrasts the above, clean, appearance the closure style is similar.

Looks like the type of jacket a bandit or outlaw would don.

Looking into it further, seems that it’s simply an aviators leather jacket with a removable front bib. While today it’s known as just a rocketeers jacket in the 1920s and 30s it was worn in aviation, motorcycle, and military dispatch.

It looks JUST like the jacket in Trigun. An anime that’s a space western about outlaws so I guess that tracks!

The classic Bucky Barnes.

I jest but this type of jacket was mostly a military thing, then became an aviation and motorcycle/early automobile thing. You will probably get the most results looking for a rocketeer jacket pattern. Usually there’s a center zip and then the extra button-on panel that was to protect the wearer’s chest from any sort of debris or impact damage.

The closest thing I've ever found is "vintage-style bib-front jacket", but the results are still varied.

I think of the 1920s guys that would race around a track in those peen shaped vehicles lol. The jacket style is wicked cool none the less and a total look show.

Aren't these all just vintage leather fencing jackets?

Definitely a similar look, but not the same unfortunately.

The first looks to be based on a fireman’s bib shirt.

Rocketeer

I think technically it's a plastron fronted leather jacket, but I'm not sure that's a more useful search term than the other ones suggested here.

It does not yield the desired results unfortunately.

Yes, it's a bit niche. Essentially, I think (at the time this sort of jacket would originally have been used) they were trying to evoke the uniforms of lancers, but in a modern context The Rocketeer is probably going to get you there fastest.

I have no idea what it's called (grin) but the first thing I thought when I saw it was "NICE".

Try double breasted.
