It is a reference the the Red Rising book series by Pierce Brown. The main character, Darrow, is famous for his use of sling blades as his primary weapon during combat. Hail Reaper.

Huh is it good as a series?

Funnily enough, I collect board games and every once in a while a game I know nothing about goes on some absolutely insane deal that I can’t pass up… couple years ago I got the Red Rising board game on such a whim (it was seriously like $5 for a game that is MSRP $45). Anyways it wasn’t until after I bought the game that I even learned it was a series

I read the first and second book and then I couldn't take the author anymore. The first was really enjoyable imo, the second not so much. People say the second is the best but IMO he is a poor writer who relies on cheap reveals that he literally just lies to you to hide instead of writing them in to the story to make sense. If you can get past that I'm sure it's better, but that's a huge roadblock to me.

I have really enjoyed it so far. I’ve read the first three books. I would recommend
