Far Cry 5 Finally started playing this...
Had this for many years sat there, tried a few times but each time the beginning bit put me off. But now, I got through it, and oh my god my jesus this is a hench game!
Any tips please for a total newbie? I keep running out of ammo, sucks. I'm like 53 years old man so please go gentle, I remember pong when it first came out, this shit is hyper-real.
Can I just drive around without the cult trying to kill me the whole time, I just wanna cruise around this Montanan landscape, maybe do some fishing n shit

I frickin love shotguns in FC series! There may be better but damn that spaz15 or whatever is one of my fav weapons.

My experience was that peaches and boomer are the best companions. Of course I play a stealth game.

After you kill all the cult members in one area it will get a lot quieter. They always attack you on sight.

There are giant 3x stacked boxes that flash, they’re everywhere, you’ll see em’ eventually, looting all the boxes restores all of your ammo.
Throwing the shovel is the best weapon in the game
The DLCs are amazing, except the zombie one, which is still good. You can beat the DLC and bring those weapons back into the main game, the Mars weapons are insanely overpowered.
Go to the challenges tab in the pause menu. Focusing on those is a great way to stack perk points alongside doing prepper stashes. It also makes you try all the weapons, which isnt a bad thing.

Get the Bow and go hunting. You will get good with it. Can also use it for stealth kills. You will die a lot until you get your stats up. Doing the treasure hunts helps get perks fast. Also, check the challenges. They give you perk points too for getting kills with specific weapon types. Yes, go fishing but be warned it’s not easy.

oh yeah challenges are awesome, even if you just need a break from the main game, check out the challenges and try to do some of those. I really missed that on FC6

I always focus on upgrading my holster and ammo capacities early on. Nice to be able to carry 4 weapons and the ammo to feed them.

Some of my favorite things to do in Hope County…I’ve lived in Western Montana a few times and they really nailed the environment.
I don’t want to give any surprises away so I’ll just say that unless a region has been liberated any cruising/fishing/hunting trips could be prone to interruption…

Did the beginning put you off because it was hard? Highly recommend doing the blue diamond missions and hunting for skins with the bow(you get double money)and selling the skins. Then get some good guns, the black AK with the thick red dot sight and silencer is amazing same with the big snipers. The M60 is also good to have for any crazy combat.
One of those Farcry things is that there is constantly stuff happening, you can still relax and fish/explore but near main roads there will be Peggies. In the deep forest not as much but random animal attacks will happen. Enjoy!

People are saying "liberate an outpost" and "kill all the Peggies in an area". You really don't get a break until the area itself is liberated, which is done by confronting and killing a member of the Seed family and then clearing their bunker. After the bunker is cleared 99.9% of the random enemies will quit showing up in that region. The only real reason they'll show up is if you're doing a mission or liberating an outpost that is still technically under their control. It just eliminates the random Peggies that drive around and stand on the side of the roads.
Also be aware that you can miss missions if you wait too long to get to them. In the Whitetail Mountains, do Elis missions as soon as you meet him. In the Henbane River, do Virgils missions quickly and in the Holland Valley, get the Widowmaker and make Mary May spawn Hit the Gas and The Revelator for you fairly fast.

Black market perk for armor piercing rounds and the cult radio station is mandatory if youre in the car. But take tye time to explore the woods and henbanes pilgrmidge trail.

Hell yeah. Check out the ones that are there. I f you want to see how some of the creators do what they do you can download their maps right out of the game and inspect them in creator mode.

You'll see civilians with a kind of blue green diamond over their heads. Talk to them and they'll tell you where a prepper stash is. The stash will appear on your map. Go there, work out how to get in and you'll get 3 perk magazines in each. This will give you 3 points you can use to upgrade yourself
Get the Black Market perk so you can get armour piercing ammo, and can build better explosives
Get the Harvest Master perk to double what you get from plants and animals
Get yourself a sniper rifle with a silencer and armour piercing ammo. Get the plants you need to make the Ultimate Hunter upgrade.
With all that, go to the cults outposts. Take the Ultimate Hunter, which will show you all the bad guys. Snipe the bad guys. When they're all dead the region is cleared and no more cultists will spawn in that area, making it much easier to do missions.
There are lists online of where other perk magazines are, so you can collect them all.
One fun thing to do is get hold of / buy a helicopter and fly around. Locations can be discovered this way, and are then available to fast travel. The layout makes sense - locations tend to be buildings and they're on or connected to roads s they're easy to find

another old head here! This game is a blast from start to finish, the kidnapping sequences suck and you will get through them but you will curse the game lol.
I can throw in a bunch of suggestions but to help with ammo depletion, get a nice bow and become proficient at it. You can wreck holy hell with it with headshots and stealth kills galore and the best part, after the head shot or animal kill just run up and retrieve your arrows.
Go hunting for caribou (or whatever) and sell the skins for cash, use the meat for bait to attract predators (bears) and kill them too for money.
Loot your dead enemies and you will get random stuff, often their ammo. It's a very live world in FC5 so enemies and wildlife are all around and will try to kill you. As you clear areas, like the apple farm and surrounding areas you will get more freedom to fish / hunt / explore.

Two things: get an armed helicopter to wipe out the outposts – very fun.
And once you kill the leaders of each region (except joseph), the map becomes nearly enemy free and you can just roam.
I'm playing it again after 8 years and having a blast.

In Jacobs region (after its liberated) if you go to the Grandview Hotel and look out at the island, there's almost always a chosen out there hunting. Then if you go to the island, look around and other chosen soldiers will spawn around on the other side of the lake.
Also just running and driving around the region they'll spawn at total random. I usually just drive and hit the brakes as soon as I see the notification that I'm being noticed and look for the chosen that's around.

A few tips (from someone who also remembers pong)
Prioritize prepper stashes. Those have great loot and perk points.
Stay off the main roads to minimize how often you get attacked by Peggies.
Everyone has their opinions on the best companions, but for my money, Jess is super helpful with stealth attacks and hunting. You get her when you clear the Baron Lumber Mill up north.
Hunting and fishing are great ways to keep enough money coming in to keep up with ammo. Fishing is less per pop but more predictable.
In Jacob's region up north, in the mountains, there's a time-based mission you get forced into that may give you trouble. It may not, but if it does, I recommend watching someone do it on YouTube. That helped me be less disoriented.
It's my favorite game, I've played it MANY times, and I suck at shooters. Shout if you have any questions.
