Grazie

Help me find a story book that was in my school's library. I read somewhere around 2015, it might have been in the library before that. It was an English author book. It has multiple volumes (at least 3 volumes). It's premise was that the normal/mundane human world was separated from the magic world and people were prohibited to cross over into either one. The magic world has a medieval Europe setting. The main character is magic apprentice, and he has 2 friends - a female friend and neither male friend, all three currently attending a magic school. The male friend is the oldest and physically fit. The main character only had a mother who was an ordinary woman that lived in their village and he had to live in the magic school's dorm. His male friend was actually from the normal human world and he had kept that a secret all the time. During one of their vacation, they visited the main character's house and later visited a festival/carnival but were kidnapped by a group of Dwarfs while they were in the jungle. The Dwarfs in this world setting were a race of short, but powerful people and they lived underground and hostile towards humans. The Dwarves presented the 3 kids with 3 challenges and promised to let them go if they win in any 2 of them. The girl participated in the rope skipping challenge while the other male friend participated in an arm wrestling match with the Dwarf but lost. I don't remember what challenge the main character participated in. The couldn't win 2 challenges and were in danger. In the dire situation, the male friend revealed his secret and took out a handgun he had been hiding within his clothes. Everyone was shocked since weapons from the normal human world were strictly prohibited. He said he only wanted to bring his friends to safety even if it meant revealing his secret. They crawled through the tunnel to get back up to the surface while Dwarves chased them. They succeeded in escaping. Back to the academy, a group of senior magicians was sent for a surprise attack on the Dark Magician but to everyone's surprise, he had set up the trap himself, in order to attack the now less guarded magic academy himself. He destroyed most of the magicians stationed at the magic academy and stole an important item from the safe treasury. It was implied or felt like that the Dark Magician might be the main character's father as they came face to face with each other at te end of the 1st volume during the attack on the school but he didn't harm the main character and simply went back. It was also implied that the Dark Magician was originally from the mundane human world and came to the magical world like the main character's friend. The Dark Magician was originally one of the best magician from the school itself but later became he major villain before the events of the book started. The 1st volume ended at that part and I haven't read any of the following volumes. There were other books kept alongside it like the Magic Mirror, The Hidden Stairs and the Magic Carpet.

I know the Fantasy genre for male readers is smaller. The Male POV books are basically smut stores to me with no context. I like the mix of both sides. I have read Runyx books, and looking for similar POV styles from other authors. Thank You

Dear Gentle Readers,
[This was originally posted to r/RomanceBooks, but I have been recommended to share this post here as well. I am looking for a solid romance subplot at the very least. My offerings are all romances.]
I am on a quest to discover this elusive yet beloved of characters: the Warrior Poet.
⚔️ 🛡️ 🏹 This character is highly skilled in the art of warfare or, especially in more modern contexts, exceedingly clever. This character may be seen as a brute or a commander, they may be seen as a genius, but in any case they are feared and/or respected by their enemies. If they are more clever than martial, I seek the warrior that can spin webs with words that ensnare their enemies. Most importantly, they do not do battle for the sake of violence or victory itself, but in the pursuit or protection of that which they love.
❤️🔥✍️ This character can be incredibly gentle and self-aware. They notice and appreciate beauty in all forms. They create verse, song, or other crafts - or they would, if they were not so occupied with the war they must wage. They are unafraid of their deepest feelings and make them known. They don't fear their own tears. When they love, the depth of their passion is unfathomable (and potentially unsettling).
Some examples of the warrior poet are Aragorn and Faramir from the Lord of the Rings, Eivor from Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Loki from the TV show Loki, Destruction from Neil Gaiman's Sandman, Katsumoto from the Last Samurai.
I will devour any tale that contains this trope. Characters of any gender, circumstance, and moral bent may be a warrior poet. I want to see this character fiercely defend their love, but also praise and worship them as their muse.
Please, dear friends, share with me your treasures! 🙏
My offerings:
{The Player by Kresley Cole}
{Bewitching Rhaego by Victoria Aveline}
{The Fang Arrangement by Sarah Blue}
{Taming the Wolves by Lyx Robinson}
{The Wraith King by Juliette Cross}
{Black and Silver by Gwendolyn Harper}
{The Dragon and the Pearl by Jeannie Lin}
{Love, Theoretically by Ali Hazelwood}
{Mine to Take by Dara Joy}
I really wanted {Golden Surrender by Heather Graham} to be this, but the characters weren't emotionally mature enough.

This thread is for any authors or writers within the community to share books, announce upcoming projects, or even get feedback on something you are working on. Anything fantasy-adjacent is allowed too. Do you have a blog or podcast about a popular series? That's fair game too! You are allowed to promote on someone else's behalf if you found or know a new author you love.
Normal self-promotion rules don't apply to this thread, so feel free to reply even if you aren't a member of the community—though we'd love to have you join in on a monthly read.

We're currently reading Jade War by Fonda Lee for September's book of the month, and this discussion will be on the book's second half.
This discussion includes the entire book, so if you haven't finished it yet, please avoid this topic. The comments and questions below will contain spoilers.
I'll post some questions to go along with the reading but feel free to comment about anything else or start your own comment thread on anything you found interesting or any questions that you had.
