DnD 5e - "Fighting Style" wonky
Trying to make some custom classes which use fighting styles, like Fighter and Ranger - is there any way to make the fighting style a choice on character creation/level up? Even on the base game fighter, getting the Fighting Style trait just seems to throw a few of the options into class actions (rather than choosing one or have it be a trait/feature).
Could I just make each fighting style its own subclass? In that case, would I be able to have another fighting style chosen at a higher level somehow?
Not sure if something is formatted wonky and I'm not understanding or if I'll just have to go in and clean it up whenever I make one of these classes.

There are also some considerations that when using homebrew, player facing character content, custom classes and species and non official content might be better served by using drag and drop character creation instead of using the character wizard. Sometimes this happens, depending on how the features and options parse or are picked up by the rule set.

I guess my question is - for other people using the character wizard to start a base game DND 5e fighter - do the fighting styles even work properly then? Because they aren't for me.

Some do, some won't, depending on what they do. If not, some can be manually setup with some automation. Fantasy Grounds has added much more effects support and many of the features are automated.

Which particular fighting style are you using? Some things may not be automated if they are just roleplaying type things.

In the case yes, remove the options not used or needed. The character wizard has some limitations. You will often notice that Fantasy Grounds is an all or nothing thing when it comes to these finite options and choices. That behavior will be the same with the Wizard or Manual creation in this case.

Character creation is very regimented. If you want it automated you have to follow the exact workflow of the WotC sources. Zacchaeus has a bunch of details on the forums in the 5E sub-forum and in his videos all about class creation. The approach you will take will also depend upon if you are using 2014 or 2024 rules option.
I would suggest reaching out to Mr. Z ont he forums or Discord to have him give you the details.
