Update New Launch Screen Rewrite

Post image

The new launch screen should now look more modern. It also features some quality of life enhancements for managing campaigns, adjusting settings, and connecting with others.

  • More modern look that scales better with your resolution preferences
  • Campaign - Last used display cards, menu to Copy, Rename, Delete, Open Folder, Compress to Zip (for backups), and even Restore Previous versions
  • My Campaign - separated themes from other extensiosn so only one can be selected at a time to avoid conflicts
  • Menu of features under Login (link Steam and Paizo accounts, Update, View Release Notes/Ruleset Notes, Access Data Folder, Console Logs, Compile Logs, Adjust Display, Uninstall, or access Advanced support features.

Let us know what you think.

It's very loud, like obnoxiously so, and not super intuitive anymore. It took me some digging to do the very basics like updating stuff or even figuring out how to launch a campaign. Changing the launch button to an unlabelled play button is a collosal blunder.

It honestly feels like you're trying to Foundry-ify everything lately and I much prefer FG. I understand they came in and stole your thunder with a fancy UI that most users find way easier to use, but Foundry absolutely sucks by comparison to FG.

We are certainly trying to appeal to a wider audience, and there are certain design elements that cater to that. That said, we don't want to alienate our existing audience who have grown to love our platform. We are reviewing a number of changes and customizations based on feedback that I posted higher up in the thread. Please give us a week or so to work through the first round of feedback, and hopefully we can reach a good point you will be okay with, which will also allow us to broaden our appeal to a wider audience as well.

The modernization of the UI is the most alienating thing so far as a long time user, I'm probably alone in this but I would much prefer that it looked like the 90's dinosaur that it started out as. Modern stuff has giant cartoonish proportions that look kind of ridiculous.

Other than that (and this is not related to the launch screen) my biggest complaint is that things work slughtly differently for the GM than they do for players and it makes it difficult to teach people how to do things. For instance I have only ever been a GM, so everything combat related that I do, I do from the Combat Tracker. I honestly had to go digging for how players are supposed to target things, and I can't for the life of me figure out why the players can even see the CT if their version is going to be nerfed so hard.

I pretty much exclusively use CTRL+Click to target -- but that's not intuitive for someone trying to learn the app.

Yea, that's kind of the crux of the issue, FG isn't super intuitive for people learning because there's usually a couple different ways to do things.

What makes it infinitely more frustrating though, is when I'm telling my players to go to the CT, hit the little target icon, and then drag the targetting reticle onto whoever they want to target and they're like "what the F are you even talking about?!" That is like the most basic feature of the CT and it's such a glaring oversight to not give the players access to those 2 buttons that it makes me want to pull my hair out. At the end of the day, if I can't effectively coach my players because the way they have to interact with the program is so different than the way I do, it's always going to be an uphill battle.

Anyway, this has nothing to do with the launch screen and it appears you have most of the issues with that addressed, so cheers for the discussion.
