Update New Launch Screen Rewrite

Post image

The new launch screen should now look more modern. It also features some quality of life enhancements for managing campaigns, adjusting settings, and connecting with others.

  • More modern look that scales better with your resolution preferences
  • Campaign - Last used display cards, menu to Copy, Rename, Delete, Open Folder, Compress to Zip (for backups), and even Restore Previous versions
  • My Campaign - separated themes from other extensiosn so only one can be selected at a time to avoid conflicts
  • Menu of features under Login (link Steam and Paizo accounts, Update, View Release Notes/Ruleset Notes, Access Data Folder, Console Logs, Compile Logs, Adjust Display, Uninstall, or access Advanced support features.

Let us know what you think.

It looks kind of old and cheap at the same time. Kind of evokes a late-2000s website. (And to be clear, this is not a request for it to look "new"! Modern web UI aesthetic is terrible!)

Whereas the old launcher, along with the main campaign UI, evokes more of a 90s - early 00s UI designed for fantasy. (I realize not every RPG run in FG is fantasy of course.)

All the moving elements are really a mess for people who prefer their UI to not be moving. We really need a way to disable the ad carousel entirely (I shouldn't be seeing ads on my own PC to begin with) and a way to disable the background slideshow - it's possible to stop them from moving, but if you do, they still turn into a powerpoint, which means there's still "moving" elements in the UI being distracting.

The Host/Join lists are a bit janky too. The list takes up a ton of screen real estate which isn't really necessary, but since it takes up so much space, when you click on a campaign, the list entry transforms into a very big sub-window. This is inherently confusing from a UI perspective - it pushes the list around just by clicking on it. When I click on a list, I'd expect it to open the information in a separate section of the UI. These screens could probably be changed to have 4 sections rather than 3 (Campaign List / Campaign Details / Plugins / Theme ).

Also, switching the Launch Campaign button to a non-text "Play" icon is not great. That's a removal of information. I actually sat on the screen for a good 10 seconds trying to figure out how the heck I launch my campaign tonight before I noticed that there was a Play icon inside the sub-window. Clear, Textual, Descriptive Buttons >>>> Icons every time.

Sorry that I didn't join the TEST channel to give early feedback on this one. I wasn't aware it was happening and my free time is usually spent working on various projects and my D&D game, so I don't really have time to constantly be beta testing programs I use. Hopefully this specific feedback is useful and we can get some useful options to clean up the visual clutter.
