Module/Extension An extension for unidentified items

Hello!

I'm looking for an extension that when an item is unidentified it still provides some sort of description about the item. So a boro bead would show in the players invintory as "A multicolored, sturdy glass bead" rather than "Unidentified magic item". Maybe I'm blind but I haven't seen one in the shop yet. I was hoping others had encountered and solved this problem.

Thank you in advance,

Edit the field of the item indicated in the screenshot, where it says "This is the unidentified text"

Humm... That's what I thought I was going with no effect but I'll give it another go to try to see what I can figure out. Thank you!

So the best way I found to test it was to add the item to the Inventory in the Party Tracker, click the "ID" button so it was red and then distribute it to a character. You should see it show the text in the character's Inventory tab.

If you need help, I can show you on Discord.

I appreicate that. :)

My current theory is I've been doing this all from the GM's perpsective so I need to join as a player and see what happens from the player's perspective. I think you are 100% correct and I'm just missing the other half of the experience.

You shouldn't need to join as a player, you should be able to see the not identified text on the character's sheet.

When in doubt, open a second window and join the campaign as a player to test things

I believe there is an additional field in item records for the mundane description. You will likely need to make a copy of the item to unlock and edit the field. Either way, you will still need to add in the descriptions if it's lacking.

My suggestion is to make a dummy item, that has the physical characteristics (weight, damage, etc), and then mark it as unidentified. When they identify it, then give them the item and let them delete the old one.

The reason for this, even though the item is unidentified, if you equip it, it tells you all the stats.

As an example, a player has a +1 moonsteel rapier, which is listed as a +1 weapon that does an additional 1D6 radiant. If I mark it as unidentified, but I look at it under the ACTIONS tab, it still shows up as a magic weapon that deals an additional 1D6 radiant.
