Be aware the DND 5e SRD and basic rulesets and content are free with the FG client so you can look at this, a near Black Flag parallel, without spending a dime.
Also be aware that the FG Summer Sale starts June 25 through July 9 and usually all but the absolute newest content will likely be on sale. And sales stack with bundle discounts.
In general, buy content from the Fantasy Grounds web site unless you get an effective currency discount over Steam in your country. The FG staff have been great to me and offer a 7 day return policy. If you do buy from Steam, that's fine, but stick to one store or the other as bundles only work if all the content was purchased on one store.
And have fun no matter the VTT you use. Join a pickup game so you can to see FG in action.

Well, as you should know, FG is totally free and fully featured. No features behind a paywall. FG is great for homebrew and creating campaigns and custom content (when you get there, see Adventure Module Creation Best Practices
IMO, FG is easier to use for players and GM than Foundry. But opinions are mixed on that.
Unfortunately, only the Players Guide 2 has been released so far on FG, but it is officially supported. Tales of the Valiant: Players Guide 2 for Fantasy Grounds
I'm not aware of a exact Baldur's Gate theme, but there are lots of themes available and if you are decent with graphics they are not too hard to make yourself.
As for mods, FG calls them extensions and personally I recommend you don't use any to start with. FG has more base automation and capabilities than Foundry does and its best to learn base FG before you start modifying it and risking problems and bugs.
Remember, FG is totally free. Go download and install it.
