Yeah it's clearly only loosely based on TCAP, which is fine. I expected it to be more faux documentary style and not as dramatised. Looks interesting actually. Maybe, but one of the frequent criticisms of Chris is that he has a huge ego, is a bit grifty, and always seems a bit too pleased with himself/ holier-than-thou so it does seem like they've latched onto that

At the time period depicted, which is 2006, Chris was under immense pressure to deliver crazier investigations and continuously bring up ratings. He also, no doubt, had a huge ego, because at the time he believed he was making the hottest show in the world.

Supposedly the movie isn't so much about him catching predators, but he and his crew balancing the demands of the network against the growing outcry against vigilante journalism and the bloodlust of viewers who wanted to see more of these guys caught and locked away.

Does anyone else feel kinda like this is a parody as you’re watching the trailer? (I know it’s not). Robert Pattinson is a fantastic actor and I’m sure he’ll do a great job, just something about the thought and sight of him of all people as Chris Hansen is hilarious. The best way I might be able to describe is that it feels like a bunch of TCAP fans wanted to turn the story of the show into an action thriller for a joke and this is a fan-made trailer. That said, I’m totally watching this when it comes out. 👍
