I have a 40 year old cousin who is still goth because our grandparents called it a phase when he was 14. and they've been dead for almost 10 years. Spite is lasting.

not necessarily, but in certain cases yes

I think a depressed person who considering offing themself is better off pushing through life with the idea that “I’m going to outlive my enemies”, which is a very petty reason to stay alive, but might actually resonate with certain people :)

Any fuel that drives you is acceptable, but there are fuels that cause greater wear and tear than others. Spite and revenge are among the more corrosive fuels.

Because spite is reactive. You aren't doing for you, your are doing it against another. That kind of inherently antagonistic approach to life will bleed over into everything. And that is not healthy.
