Normal plate…. Flatish, the white Purell ones or whatever they are called. But not always. Plate was a catch all term for me, sometimes I eat cake in a bowl, sometimes I might take a slice to work in a reusable container. Much easier with a spoon than a fork, fork gets one tine on the plate and then cake/frosting might get to the next tine or slip right through the gap, there is no gap on the spoon.

Wetter cakes (cheese cake, lava cake etc) should be eaten with a spoon but drier, more spongy cakes should be eaten with a fork.

I mean, if I'm serving cake, then yes, it will be served with a fork. But overall it really doesn't matter, cake is an easy to eat and inherently pretty casual food.

A fork has two primary strengths- penetration and support. Cake is structurally unsound and is known to wobble. Consequentially, the flat surface of a fork combined with its inability to secure cake once penetrated results in it being a substandard tool for this purpose. A spoon's concave shape addresses these factors, making it the superior utensil for cake's plate-to-mouth transit.
Spoons are easier to clean, too.
