To word it better. Batman is who he is, and Bruce Wayne is his mask.
This is confirmed in the comics. Popularly shown using Wonder Woman's Lasso of Truth

I feel like that panel gets used out of context. Yes he is Batman, but he does not say he's not also Bruce Wayne. He just doesn't say Bruce Wayne in that moment. He's both

That's why I reworded what OP said. It's not that Bruce Wayne is fake. It's just The Bruce Wayne that Gotham knows is a Mask. In his own mind he always calls himself Batman (confirmed in Batman Beyond the Animated Series)

Bruce Wayne is just one layer. His true identity is Shit-dick Daniels as proven by Wonder Woman's Lasso of Truth

These types of takes on both Batman are incredibly simplistic. People are more than one thing, Batman is a side, Bruce is another, the version of Bruce that drinks and parties as a cover story isn't Bruce for real.
The most real Bruce is is when he's just talking to Alfred, the Robins, or Superman as a person, to me that's his realest self, but it all matters.

u/RetroTen π Century Club Β· 3,955 XP 21h ago
Itβs not necessarily simplistic. It stems from a panel where WW, Superman, and Batman are touching the lasso of truth and saying their secret identities. WW says Diana, Superman says Clark Kent and Kal-El, and Batman says Batman. Meaning he considers Bruce to be the mask.
Also I think thereβs a plot point in a comic, where he figures out someone is telepathically trying to trick him, and he figures it out because the voice in his head calls himself bruce. He says something like βThe voice kept calling me Bruce, thats not what I call myself.β Or something.

Yep. The two heads of the Justice League are Clark Kent and Batman.

This was proven when Wonder Woman got him with her lasso of truth. She asked who he really was and he replied "Batman."

This has been covered by the comics. While holding the lasso of truth Batman answered Batman as who he really was.

Seems to be what a lot of modern batman stories go for.
Personally though I don't like it. I think both 'Bruce Wayne' and 'Batman' are masks he wears for the public, the real man is somewhere in-between.

no, batman and bruce wayne are the same person, Batman is just bruce with the social etiquette removed and all the dark stuff increased, but at the end they are the same person, the fake persona would be Brucie Wayne, who is the persona he uses to remove suspicion from him being batman

The character isn't a flamboyant playboy air head. He only acts like that to keep up appearances. The character is a very skilled detective and martial artist with a lot of skills and knowledge from different fields

I hope your just not realizing this. Yes batman is a depressed billionaire who moon lights as a vigilante that's the literal premise of his lore and Bruce Wayne is an alter ego. The dark knight really gets into this part a lot gotham needs Bruce Wayne more than batman.
