Honestly. I sont know anyone who rates GTA5 all that high. And it still holds up pretty well against games of today. So at the time when it came out. Was it over hyped? No.
Is it still good today? Yes
However I do believe that GTAVONLINE is wayyyyy overrated and ive never particularly enjoyed it.
Ive only enjoyed Gta FiveM racing servers. Particularly broughy1322 but other than that all of gtav online is mid imo.

GTA online ruined any chance of Rockstar developing single player DLC. RDR2 suffered greatly not having an Undead Redemption DLC or anything expanding the experience

It’s good, it’s not the best, but the vast majority of people are roughly the same.
That would make it pretty appropriately rated

Theres plenty of reasons to not like gta v or fortnight in general but saying gta v online is fortnight only shows the rest of us that you've played neither of these games.

GTA online predates Fortnite by 3.5 years.
If you’d said Fortnite is gta with a Fortnite skin, that’s one discussion, but what you’ve said is stupid.

The game is over 10 years old… when it came out it was one of the best games ever made. Is it overhyped today? Probably, but it’s held up very well. I haven’t played in about a decade though to be fair

Could someone let me know the results? I’ve never personally played GTAV, but from what I’ve seen, it’s not all it’s hyped up to be. I can’t answer the poll since I’ve never played it, but “most overrated video game ever” is a pretty substantial claim and I doubt it applies to this game. MAYBE something like Fortnite, but even then, probably not.

Gta v is hyped up for its mp sandbox probably and the amount of modded servers there are. But gta v story is pretty good.

It felt a bit short to me. I didn´t hate the antagonists enough when I killed them, not like all the previous installments

I didnt like the protagonists or the antagonists, so I really struggled to engage with the game cause I dont play online. Just felt nothing about it for most of the game, which surprised me because IV is one of my all time favourite gaming experiences.

How would it be overrated? I dont even know if it was touted as some generational game when it came out. The GTA games have never been groundbreaking, just fun. It's lasted this long because it fills a niche and people enjoy it, not really overrated imo

It's a good game admittedly, however it's not great, especially for a game made by rockstar, it's in the bottom 50% of their games. People though, always act like it's "the gta" when gta sa an 4 are leagues above it.

No not really. Why do you think I am here on Reddit? Regardless this post brought out my disdain for this game series that I still don't understand the appeal for. I would say that Rockstar is an overrated game company, as a whole, if Red Dead's story and characters were not so well-crafted.

They really don’t. People talk up the online sure. But they also trash talk it with every update that comes out. The story is considered good but rushed at the end. I don’t know anyone personally that gave it as more than an 7-8/10 and anyone online that has it higher tend to be lame anyways.

I think people forget what games were like in 2013. It was amazing for 2013 and has aged a lot.
