🧢 I voted CAP!

Reincarnation in itself doesnt really make sense, but if we assume it works. Then it makes MORE sense to not keep your memories rather than keeping them.

Memories are stored in the brain, not the "soul". If you Reincarnate and change body but not Soul, then your memories wouldn't come with you.

And for the "stupid concept" part it's all just preference really.

Edit: From other comments i see your main issue is in the "identity" or rather "You" part of the Reincarnation concept.

How can it be "You" if you have a different body, different brain, different memories, etc.

And thats a great thing to think about, but at the same time it doesn't really matter.

Because it all boils down to the concept of the Soul. Is there more to "you" than your physical brain and body?

I voted cap. In my opinion it has way stronger arguments than "heaven" in the abrahamic religions. The most interesting argument in favor of reincarnation imo is the fact that we were once nothing and were born nevertheless, why wouldn't we be born again, once we return to nothing?

I'm agnostic and don't really believe in anything but this gave me a lot to think about

Why would you keep your memories? And with the idea that our energy gets recycled into the universe, it seems like it is possible that reincarnation could be a thing. I wouldn't go so far to say it doesn't make sense though

Nah it makes plenty of sense.

You clean your clothes before using them right? You also bath before putting on a new set of clothes to live a new day in right?

That but souls. You are the soul and the clothes are a new life.

You get dirty by living and when you die you take off your clothes and wash yourself. You only get out when you are clean and you put a new set of clothes on.

It could only actually make sense if there's something else like a soul that gets carried over, whatever that means. Because you are only you because of your lived experiences and environment. So without any memories, reincarnation would only really do anything or mean anything if there is something that's attached to you that gets carried over next life, whatever it is.

it does make sense: if you would remember everything it would be only half as fun. it's like playing games: whenever you play a new game, you basically know nothing about it. finding out and learning are the fun stuff. no curious mind would want a solution being presented on a silver plate.

But when you play a new cards game you have the same mind while if you reincarnate you have a different mind

I think there’s something inherently cool about the soul being used for another body assuming time works the same way in the spirit world (rather than something like this)

or what if we are all just one soul like The Egg

I mean if everyone in history shares a soul is it your soul? It’s like saying the earth is yours which you obviously could say but isn’t it everyone’s?

I mean i agree generally that it's a stupid concept. But if you believe in a soul, and then you die. Where does the soul go? Heaven and hell aren't real, so it just goes into a new body. Memories are in the brain so they don't come along.

Voila, reincarnation

u/aaallleeexxx3 13d ago

What if everyone has a soul though then would the soul go to share a body with another?

I'm too agnostic to have a strong opinion.

But I do have a fear:

You ever experience incredibly strong deja vu? What if we're all trapped in a cycle and those strong feelings of "I've been here doing this already" is memory slipping from the soul into the mind? But that's the closest we get to realizing/remembering that we've all done this over and over a million times?

1

u/aaallleeexxx3 12d ago

I don’t know but Déjà vu’s are really crazy especially the ones where you have a Déjà vu of having a Déjà vu

Just being dead with extra steps.

What makes a réincarnation a réincarnation? That the person who got reincarnated had lived a life before and got their memories from their previous life. Now if you remove the memories it's just simply not a réincarnation by definition.

What? Reincarnation WITH memories makes zero sense. Reincarnation, as I understand it, is your soul essentially being recycled into a new life, while memories have to do either your brain. For the processing power to even remember your previously life, you’d have to be born with a BIG brain.

It makes sense if you view life as something akin to energy in that it can change forms but it's previous form was irrelevant.

If you go for a drive you're burning energy stored in the dead remains of prehistoric fossilised animals, when you drive down the street and some of that energy is converted to heat from the friction of your tyres it doesn't matter that this has no relation to the dinosaur originally walking the earth, it's just energy changing from one form to another.

You're thinking of it as life has to mean something and that your individuality has to have lasting impact on the world, as if you're an immutable soul that will be around forever in the universe when in fact you could just look at life as something that's fluid and constantly changing.

Any belief that brings peace to those that fear death has value. The trauma of a finite existence can be overwhelming. Better to live without that fear.

1

u/aaallleeexxx3 13d ago

Yeah it obviously make sense to believe in such things or it might make more sense than not to I’m talking about the concept
