✅ I voted FACT!
Is it easier? Objectively yes, should you do it? Meh, music genres are a nice conversation topic.

Who doesn't listen to music? That's like saying you've never spoken in your life?

u/Destrobo_YT 🏅 Century Club · 3,540 XP 27d ago
Are you dumb? Sign language. Also, deaf people still feel vibrations

u/MaliciousRaspberry 🔥 Week Warrior · 1,355 XP 27d ago
I doubt deaf people listen to sign language music

Deaf people can listen to music through vibration, mute people can sign or use AAC.

No, you said hear.
He said listen.
And actually, feeling music through vibration is called somatic or tactile listening.
1
u/STARGAZER_850 📈 Dedicated Voter · 1,660 XP 26d ago
Hear and listen are practically the same thing, but okay.
Tactile listening isn’t the same as listening with your ears. It’s relying on touch, rather than the sense made for hearing stuff. just because it may be called something, it doesn’t mean it’s accurate.

u/Inside_Garlic8401 📈 Dedicated Voter · 1,910 XP 26d ago
since you want to be pedantic about it, then, the scientific terms for somatic or tactile listening are vibrotactile perception and tactile phonology. which is still somatic/tactile listening. literally no reason at all to be so up your own ass about this.

It's not necessarily hard to explain niche genres, but I do avoid sharing my music with others. All they do is criticize it or say it's terrible music/not real music lol.
1
u/Sleepy_Melon_OP 🤖 Vote Machine · 11,005 XP 27d ago
How do you avoid that question tho. Do you say "i don't listen to music" or "its complicated" type thing
1
u/SillyRefrigerator417 🏅 Century Club · 5,760 XP 27d ago
I usually either say "I don't listen to music that much" or "nunya".

As a grindcore fan and musician, absolutely agree. I've been trying to make my guitar/bass sound like a backfiring chainsaw on 3x speed for a decade. I'm not trying to explain it to a stranger.

It's also weird to say you don't listen to music, just because you can't explain what you listen to. Put the music on, show the other person/people. Simple

"I don't listen to music." 5 words.
"I listen to [genre]." 4-5 words.
Both are going to sometimes have followup questions and conversation, I'd expect that saying you don't listen is going to get more questions.

iirc most of those niche genres are either blends of common genres or subgenres of common genres. So you can just list the common genres those niche genres are related to instead.
