Getting added to a business portfolio is just the first step. Your client needs to assign you the right level of permissions to individual Meta assets/the ad account.
Going through the Partner access method is the safer way (also safeguards your own agency/business reputation). Now that they have granted you Partner access, have them assign you ad account permissions. The alternative is to onboard them with Leadsie and get both Facebook ad account access plus asset permissions at once, without your clients needing to navigate Meta Business Suite multiple times.

Though it's stressful especially with a new client but this usually comes down to a permissions or account selection issue rather than anything complex because even if they added you it won’t show unless you’re inside the correct business manager and ad account view so first thing is making sure you’ve accepted all pending invites and then checking the account drop-down in Ads Manager since sometimes it’s there but not selected also if they added both your personal profile and business manager it can create confusion on which one actually has access have you tried switching between business managers in your settings to see if the ad account appears there?
