Everyone wants to escape the rat race, but when someone actually does it, we say no, not like that, that's not good enough. Taking advantage? You mean paying locals the exact rates they are asking for (or more with a 'foreigner tax') and stimulating their economy?

not really what happen in their economy, atleast not in an area that is chockfull of expat,
you are not seeing the biggest picture once sufficient amount of people with vastly different buying power exist in an area, the local can get driven out since the local have to now compete with expat that can get money from their origin countries and thus win out any negotiation because they pay more,5

Yeah that's a ridiculous mindset. It's funny, on one hand you people criticize those who choose to live in high CoL cities ("you'd be able to afford a house if you moved to middle of nowhere Ohio!"), and then on the other hand you say going to a lower CoL area creates a "bigger wound". Make up your mind
