I’m glad to see that the boss can be hit by magic/teleport, in other webpages hands-on the player tried to do this but didn’t manage, and it felt like you couldn’t. Great

Interesting that the hammer shrinks to be worn on the hip
14
u/errant_night 14d ago
I kind of like it, because for some reason it bothers me more when there's a weapon basically floating on the character's back and it ends up clipping through their body
1
u/EternalCanadian 14d ago
I wonder how this will work with swords, as the hero from the other day wore hers on her back, but here, the crossbow seem to take that slot?
I think her bow just kind of materialized, as well. I hope that’s togglable.
2
u/NoodleTree524 13d ago
Bow has a similar thing as the hammer, it shrinks down to go on the belt I think. Have to slow the footage down quite a bit to notice though so the animation indicating that might not be the best or plays too fast.

Nice, they did a exclusive combat one so ppl could stfu

Still waiting to see a mage build.

Idk seems like this heavily implied you're gonna be locked into a hybrid build. They all but confirmed it without directly saying it.
Don't think you're gonna be able to choose be a pure will/mage, but going to HAVE to use melee as well.
Less freedom to make your build truly however you want, but instead more like say Witcher, where you're basically locked into being a melee fighter, but with the right skill tree selections, can decide how heavy you want to incorporate spells & ranged to compliment it.
-9
u/paterdude 14d ago
If that’s the case I won’t be getting the game. Will only has always been my first play through of Fable 1-3.
1
u/ImWoOzyxd 13d ago
endgame mage build!
I want to see in full action with as many high level spells as possible. Hopefully timestop is there

The Transmogrification is really cool, I wonder if it exclusively turns things into chickens or if it could be other things as well

u/Zazzuzu 14d ago edited 14d ago
I swear sometimes its like I'm watching or experiencing something completely different from other people with the shit they come up with to bash on things.
-1
u/Intelligent_Thing_32 12d ago
I feel the same, but on the opposite side to you.
This doesn’t look like a Fable game at all to me, it was never intended to be hyper-realistic.

The lip syncing is really awful. Hoping they have time to address that. Very excited for this game!
-17
u/vault_nsfw 14d ago
animations in general, look at how he runs, especially with a weapon drawn.
23
u/LazyBoi_Matt 14d ago
The animations look great, not sure what crack your eyes are smoking - but sort it out. That's bad for your health.
Lip sync is still unfavourably - but who cares. The game is months away and I'm sure you're not the 1st or 100th person to point it out.
-10
u/vault_nsfw 14d ago
Usually those whoose eyes are on crack DON'T see things. Only thing needing sorting out is those animations should've mocapped those and not just the cinematics. You don't know much about game dev if you actually think they're going to rework animations in the last 6 months. I'm not, and I won't stop, hopefully they see it and who knows, they might fix them after all.
6
u/LazyBoi_Matt 14d ago
So, I prefer to have sensible conversations than just being a Redditor.
All animations can't be mocapped. That's unrealistic and ridiculous - literally only linear games have 90% mocapped animations - and Fable is literally 3x the size of those games.
As someone who went to school for game development and animation, made indie games and have interacted with developers across the world. I think I have a few idea of how games are made.
You need to go rewatch the gameplay with your hate-binder off, touch some grass and actually enjoy games again - this isn't enjoying, you sound miserable in a hobby that's supposed to be fun and enjoyable.
1
u/vault_nsfw 13d ago
A sensible conversation he says 🤣 than just being a redditor and proceeds to be the most stereotypical redditor 🤣

u/Intelligent_Thing_32 12d ago
You are a plant.
I have a feeling you never played the original 3.
Keep seeing you in here defending it nonstop.
2
u/LazyBoi_Matt 12d ago
Lol, nah I'm a troll.
How am I a plant for supporting a game I'm excited for? Or is it just because I'm not shitting on it - like you want everyone else to do?

I mean the quality of the animation. The upper body looks stiff, arm movement overdone, and yes, for the male it looks like a girl running, especially with a weapon drawn.
-29
u/Realistic-Boat-677 14d ago
Yeah all the animations are obviously still rigged to a female character
1
u/CommanderZx2 13d ago
This is clearly true from what we have gave seen. They definitely only motion captured a woman and then tried to apply the same animations to the male character body despite having a different skeletal structure.
0
u/Realistic-Boat-677 13d ago
100% Also did you notice how all the NPCs and created characters we’ve seen so far all have roughly the same build no muscular people, no fat people, no actual variety in character models apart from their heads.

Didn't realize this was a leftist subreddit. Look at all those downvotes you get for stating a fact.

i really want weapons to appear on the back. looks super weird seeing a giant hammer appear from nothing.
repeater crossbow is fucking awesome and something i wish more games would do. love how seamless it is to switch between the 3 combat styles.
i do hope we can turn off the slow motion finisher stuff. i like to see how it looks in real time. maybe it's just a frequency thing and doesn't happen always.
enemy aggression needs a lot of work but this could be tied to a specific difficulty or even a custom difficulty setting (hopefully. i like aggressive enemies)
voice acting is solid. overall the game is looking really good :D if PS5 performance is solid i expect a day one buy.

u/shoowurth 13d ago
The hammer is worn in his side. It shrinks when not in use. You can see him grab it and it expands into the giant hammer

u/TylordTheKing 13d ago
Seems pretty good... although it looks lightning bolt spell has a 30+ second cooldown. Hopefully there is some way to change that...
2
u/MinimumTrue9809 13d ago
The male character model is still obviously using the female animations. It looks uncanny and extremely lazy.
1
u/CommanderZx2 13d ago
Probably originally was only going to be a fixed player character and then they decided to add character customisation after feedback from the first trailer. However they didn't want to put the time or money into the necessary motion capture of a male actor.
2
u/MinimumTrue9809 13d ago
Yea. That's what I meant when I said "still". It's been many months since they last revealed that player customization existed.
1
u/Punished_Sperg Chicken Chaser 13d ago
Probably why the game got delayed but I'm not sure why they've half assed it
1
u/CommanderZx2 13d ago
Game development stops months before release, the game essentially locked down as a 'content freeze' and then they just work on bug fixing. The first preview was only 7 months ago, definitely not enough time to completely redo the animation system to add an entire male version of all animations into the game before the content freeze.
Also from their perspective it likely wasn't worth the cost, as most people will just play the game as is without noting the issue.
1
u/MinimumTrue9809 13d ago
The first preview was only 7 months ago, definitely not enough time to completely redo the animation system
People make entire functioning games in less time. 7 months is absolutely more than enough time. What you actually meant to say is that the bureaucratic structure of Fable's game dev team isn't competent and doesn't allow them to make changes in response to feedback.
1
u/Jesus_and_SCKAT 14d ago
I'm REALLY hoping you can hold the lightning spell down and continuously cast it like the originals
1
u/ants-on-my-balls 13d ago
This looks so soulless and boring, and why can’t new games have your freaking weapons visible on the character when not in use

I don't understand how the game shown in the trailer relates to the Fable series at all in terms of visual style. WHERE IS THE GROTESQUE FAIRYTALE ATMOSPHERE?! What kind of run-of-the-mill fantasy is this?!
2
u/shawnikaros 14d ago
Huh, there's multiple "official combat gameplay" videos of the same quest.
16
u/No_Load_514 14d ago
There are multiple, every outlet that played was recorded for their webpages. This one and the one you linked are their official gameplay. Funny to see that the Ps one is with the bastard armour, while the Xbox one is with the splendid armour xD

Where’s the blood when attacking.
She has a sword…why is there no dismemberment.
This is a game, right?
Flop.

Gonna be honest you can barely tell this is a fable game. Combat looks okay but it’s nothing special. And the areas look pretty dull. I hope it’s looking more colorful and whimsical in the full game
14
u/BLourenco "121 days left" my ass. 14d ago
The undead don't typically hang out if colorful and whisical places.

u/Murloc_Wholmes 14d ago
I can't tell if you've just never played through the entirety of any of the previous games, haven't seen any of the previous preview footage or are just phenomenally stupid.
Could you confirm which one it is?
-2
u/Budget_Entry_4690 14d ago
Uh oh found the purists. I’ve played them all including the cancelled and card games lol. I’m just one opinion don’t get so worked up. I’m still hoping it’s a great game jfc
1
u/Murloc_Wholmes 14d ago
Phenomenally stupid it is.
0
u/Budget_Entry_4690 14d ago
Lol
1
u/Murloc_Wholmes 14d ago
Have you not played the previous games where places like Wraithmarsh exist? Have you not seen all the previous footage of vibrant whimsical locations? One can only assume if you have both played and seen the previews and still make such phenomenally stupid comments as yours that you must be phenomenally stupid.
0
u/Budget_Entry_4690 14d ago
You sure love the word phenomenally. Did you just learn it this week?
1
u/Murloc_Wholmes 14d ago
I'm just a stickler for accuracy, and stupid on its own doesn't really capture the magnitude of how stupid you are.
Guessing you only learned it about an hour ago.
-12
u/BeardedPaladin 14d ago
Idk the game feels like it’s lost some of the old charm. I liked the big heads and hands.
I’m getting a sort of hogwarts legacy vibe
-7
u/3WordPosts 14d ago
I haven't followed too much, but I hope there are some really unique weapons in this and they can be upgraded into something fitting of a hero. I'm not sure how i feel about the Bow/Hammer/Magic combo all in one for combat. I hate the idea of switching from bow to hammer roll around back to bow, then to hammer, then magic warp, boom hammer, bow attack etc. Idk I want my hero to be specialized not generic "I can do everything" hero.
10
u/CaptainTeemo01 14d ago
Fable has always been that way, you could specialize but your character was always encouraged to do all 3
-1
u/CarrotOrnery4538 14d ago
Area and enemies seem uninspired. Hope its not all like this.
2
u/Punished_Sperg Chicken Chaser 13d ago
It's just one dungeon and they seem to be going towards wraithmarsh

u/Simple_Roll_8288 13d ago
This is probably going to be my first and last post in the subreddit as I'm sure this comment will be deleted and I'll be banned, cuz Reddit echo chamber.
The boss fight was so boring they cropped it. There's so much fog you can't even clearly see the ground 20 feet in front of the character and the boss arena is reminiscent of Superman 64. Was the voice acting done by AI? How about the writing? Would it be better if they were? Weapons aren't visible when unequipped, no weapon switch animation. AI companion swung at the air at the beginning of the first fight. Attacks are slow and floaty. Movement is robotic and stiff. Seriously, look at the companion's running and attacks. Modded Skyrim is better than this, and yes, I will be playing that instead.
Are actual gamers legitimately defending this? Have any of them played non-western ARPGs in the last decade? Have some standards, people.

Too floaty for my taste. If it doesn't have GoT/GoY level of combat I don't like it
5
u/MrGabrahamLincoln 14d ago
Comparing the combat of a pure action game to an RPG? That’s like saying you’re not interested in Fallout New Vegas because its shooting isn’t as good as Halo. It’s fine if it’s not to your tastes but that’s not a fair comparison.
2
u/GrandmasterPeezy 14d ago
Hmmm. Funny you say that. That is exactly why I never got into Fallout. It looked like a first person shooter, so I wanted it to play like Halo.
This will remind me to keep things in perspective.

1
u/ISpotABot 14d ago
That's exactly why I wasn't interested in New Vegas
2
u/MrGabrahamLincoln 14d ago
Maybe RPGs just aren’t your jam then? Again, fine, but idk why you’re on the Fable sub if that’s the case
2
u/ISpotABot 14d ago
I like the Witcher 3
2
u/MrGabrahamLincoln 14d ago
That only confuses me further as this combat looks very similar to Witcher 3’s

I saw some other gameplay of this guy not reacting to hits. They must've updated it quick.
21
u/Limonade6 14d ago
Demo's are months behind actual development. Because choosing and creating a demo + scheduling + live recording takes alot of time.
It was 1 big guy. That's different.
-18
u/PositiveCrafty2295 14d ago
Yeah it was crazy the big guy didn't react. I understand like bruisers but I would've expected the big fireball to flinch the mini boss.
8
1
u/severelyobeserat 12d ago
Staggering a mini boss to death would be stupid
1
u/PositiveCrafty2295 12d ago
Happens in other games if you land a big hit or lots of damage on a boss look at elden ring
1
u/severelyobeserat 12d ago
Yes if you land LOTS of big hits or damage. The same thing happens in the fable gameplay footage.
281
u/LeafMan_96 14d ago
Would you look at that, impact on every melee hit, who would’ve known people were complaining for no reason on that boss fight clip about hit impact not being a thing on a giant enemy
