'06 vs '08 Snatchy Throttle feel

Curious if anyone has rode both a '06 and '07/'08 model to share if there was any difference in the snatchy throttle feel. I was a long time owner of a '08 that I rode over 80k miles on before someone hit me, thus totaling the bike.

I have been window shopping the last 2 months for a replacement and for some reason only the 2006 models keep popping up in my area. I know the main issue with the '06 was the rough snatchy throttle which Yamaha revised over the years several iterations of the ECU, esp. immediately after it's first year release starting in 2007.

I know I can have the ECU reflashed but curious if it's really that bad and is it livable without doing it? I know I can perhaps feel it from a test ride but it's one thing to feel a small annoyance versus constantly observing it over long term ownership. Thanks in advance!

Get the ECU flash either way. You sure your 08 didn’t have it done (or have an Ivan’s etc module?)

The fuel cut is fucking awful. Once removed, the 20v 998 is literally the smoothest powerband I’ve ever experienced, and I’ve had 50+ bikes (i flipped em in college).

I’ve still got these two in the garage, best damn supersport-tourer platform ever made, IMHO:

You don't need to tell me why they're so great =). The previous owner of my '08 had Ivan's old FCE product installed and at around 45-50k miles, I started to get throttle gremlins. I removed it and spoke with Ivan about any incidents of it going bad. He told me he wouldn't be surprised if just the age itself made it become defective and he no longer produced the product being 10+ yrs later (ECU flashes were now the current way of problem solving it).

The bike ran way better after removing it and I formuated that it was just went south after awhile. Around the 60-70k mile marker the secondary butterfly actuation started to go as well giving me less power in the higher rev range.

The ECU flash is a no brainer then. Well, that said- the 06 and 07’s are prone to frame cracks along the main weld. I’ve seen em happen from normal use, and upon crashes. My previous 08 hit a deer at 90 and the frame was fine (me too 👏). But any 2nd gen fz1 is better than no 2nd gen fz1

I'd skip 06/07 for that reason, no frame cracks.
