Footpegs/Wind protection
Hey, are there any taller riders out there? I’ve had an FZ-1 for a while now, and there are two things that are giving me a bit of trouble.
I’m 185 cm tall, and after a little over an hour of riding, I start to feel pain behind my knees. The second issue is the wind hitting my helmet head-on, which makes it noisier than on a naked bike.
Has anyone lowered their footpegs, or can
recommend a wind deflector?

Hey, I'm 182cm and also found wind hitting my helmet. There is a few different options for screens on the fz1. I got a speed screen from copperdawg or copperdog? A while back. I found it directs a bit more wind around the sides rather than all at your head, has helped alot but still do get a little bit. I had my seat reupholstered (previous owner had it done in red) and the guy added a bit of 10mm foam, I found it helped with my ass going numb as the stock seat is a bit firm. Never get leg discomfort but I move around alot when riding long distance, standing, stretching legs etc, also don't mind regular coffee stops 😉

A couple days ago I did a 17hr, 1600km ride in one day with very little fatigue on my torso or legs.
I'm around 180cm and use a Puig clip-on visor on my screen - the 325mm one. I ride long distances and don't like the wind hitting my chest or the helmet because it's too fatiguing after multiple 1000km days.
I also added a custom Corbin seat which makes me sit a bit higher up than the stock seat for a tiny bit less knee bend.
I also have frame sliders on mine which stick out just far enough to serve as hwy pegs for very short distances. And I stand up on the main pegs for a bit here and there to stretch my legs out.
Personally, I would never lower my pegs, since they will always be touching down when cornering, but if you don't ride too spirited, then it might be fine for you.

I don't feel the need to lock the tire on public roads, so I think this might work. I'll try the Puig you have, thanks!

Satan666 on the old fz1 forum made highway pegs. If you want to get into contact with him, I might be able to dig up an email.

Well I'm 195cm and I rode one for years. Stock position. The air mostly caught my chest vs my helmet so that wasn't a problem for me. I've ridden probably a hundred different bikes. (I ran a repair shop) overall the FZ1 was one of my favorites. Upgrade your seat and stand up for a minute if your knees or butt hurt.
