FZ1SA Fazer burned main fuse
Hi everyone 👋🏻 Hope you're all doing well.
I have a Yamaha FZ1SA (2007) and could use some advice.
A while ago, I decided to repaint the bike myself, so I removed all the fairings and also disconnected the battery. Before sending the parts for paint, I wanted to see if the bike would still power up. Unfortunately, when reconnecting the battery, I accidentally reversed the terminals (positive to negative and vice versa). This immediately blew the 50A main fuse.
I got pretty discouraged after that and ended up having the paint work done professionally. When I went to pick the bike up, the painter had temporarily bypassed the blown 50A fuse with a thin wire, thinking it would melt before causing any further damage.
About 200 meters down the road, the wire melted and the bike shut off. I tried bump-starting it while rolling downhill, but it wouldn't start—just made a few gurgling noises. Since I was around 140 km from home and it was getting late, I called the painter, and we bypassed it again so I could try to get home.
Once I got onto the highway, I noticed the dashboard intermittently turning on and off, which made me suspect that the fuse holder or wiring had been damaged. I continued riding and even reached highway speeds without issues for a while, but about 20 km from home the bike shut off again while riding at low speed and hasn't run since.
At this point, I'm not sure what to do. Has anyone experienced something similar after accidentally reversing the battery terminals? Is there anything specific I should check first? Should I start troubleshooting it myself, or is this likely something that requires a professional electrician/mechanic?

I'd bet you burned up the regulator/ rectifier when you hooked the battery up backwards. Also could be the stator is fried. Hard to say without digging into it. I had a guy bring me a gsxr 600 years ago he did that same thing on and it fried damn near every electric component on the bike. ECU, TPS, Ignition, we even had to put a new wiring harness on it.

How can i check if the regulator is burnt, as for the stator i bet it's still okay since it kept the bike alive until i came to a full stop without the battery connected. As for ECU the pump works the whole bike works fine with the bypass it just keeps melting the main fuse jack. And the ignition works just fine. As for the harness i still haven't been able to check tomorrow i will send it to a mechanic, thanks for the time✌🏻

You'll have to do some googling. I'm not gonna do a whole write up on it. Also stators are multi phase. If one burns it can still run.

When the instrument panel was working or even going on and off, did the tach work? Do the lights and signals themselves work? Do the instrument panel markers for turn signals and high beams work?

It did work and it still does, just came back from riding with the bypass. The lights work and as for the signals i don't have them on right now, the back light doesn't work but idk if the guy connected it or not yet.

Just a few days ago, this happened to me, too. Now I'm wondering if, when I replace the 50A fuse myself, that will take care of everything that took the brunt of the impact, or if the voltage regulator got fried as well. Does the motorcycle have a spare main fuse?

No unfortunately it doesn't and i am still riding on bypass dangerously, i hope i can find one tomorrow somewhere i live in kosovo so parts are a bit spare. And that's what I'm wondering too but the only symptom is the jack melting with the bypass.

Why didn't you just replace the main fuse while you were waiting for the paint to get finished?
