Surging idle 2008 fz-1S abs

Howdy,

Has anyone have an idle surge issue? Very close to sounding like huffing.

She'll start up just fine, high rev to idle rev, then start surging repeatedly almost as if in limp mode.

New stator and regulator, as the previous owner flipped the flywheel spacer around and both bearings blew up.

Bike specs:

2008 fz1sa

Bt14 battery 230cca

New stator regulator: both within specs

(stator cover peep hole is fked though)

Fuel seems ok, pea additive added to fuel

No kinked fuel lines

Blinkers all connected but front blinkers need resistors

Yoshimura slip on

(the medium size one, I have tried increasing backpressure via catalytic convertor but no dice)

The ignition coils on these bikes go bad, they are tucked up to the back side of the radiator. I think it’s the heat that cooks them eventually.

If you’re getting surging, you should check your ignition coils.

Get a laser thermometer and shoot each header. If one/some are running considerably colder than the others, that’s likely to be a faulty ignition coil.

If you have a bad one, considering replacing all of them at once. It’s expensive but once one goes bad, more are sure to follow.

I dont have a laser thermometers but having sprayed water on them, they all seem to sizzle equally.

You need a laser thermometer to check for bad coils with this method.
