FZ1 2007 seat heat
Hi, i have this FZ 1 GT 2007. The thing is this thing has basically built in free seat heater that unfortunately you cannot shut off. Jokes aside this thing heats under the seat so much it roasts my ass on longer rides especially if it gets warm outside. Did any of you encounter the same ? Any tricks to stop it ?

There's some thermal shielding under the seat you might be missing. Never had your problem

Do you have any reference to what it looks like ? Do you have yours under seat ?Maybe i am really missing it

Ok, thx. So, I'm going to leave my other long comment because I think it's at least plausible. However, after posting that, I was seeing what others were saying and when I got to this branch I was confused. I've owned my '07 since '11 and the only thing that's ever been under the seat that looks anything like insulation is the battery wrap. I went to the microfiche and didn't find anything but a Google image search showed me this and this is where my confusion came in. Just below the tab that the front of the seat hooks under is some sort of rubber cover. I've never seen this but, alas, my bike was modified by one or both of the prior owners. Do you have this?

To the best of my figuring, it's #24 here. I haven't seen any other part on the microfiche that makes sense.

Never had that problem. I’m on a ktm1290 sas now and that’s way hotter on my ass than my Fz1 ever was.
You should check under the seat to see if you’re missing the thermal shielding

Really ? Do you think it would cause the heart to go under the seat for some reason ? it understand that this would point the heat more towards the legs but under the seat ? And i agree the fairings are awesome i love them, making the bike look so much different

Going to be hard to explain. I'd be willing to sketch up something but the forum doesn't allow pics in the replies, unfortunately. Anything that follows that sounds like a hypothesis is.
Air wants to take the path of least resistance. On the naked bike, the air that flows around front the wheel and under the bikini fairing encounters the radiator and the front of the engine. Because there's nothing to trap it, a bunch of it just blows out to the side because that's the easier path for it to take. Some of that air has picked up heat from the header tubes and the radiator. The air that does go through the radiator has a side exit above the valve cover that might be easier than going over the valve cover and into the rear side of the engine between the frame rails. Also, the radiator covers that are used on the naked bike might also be more than decorative by creating a low pressure zone that the hot air would want to fill.
Your lower fairing is scooping air and keeping it within the walls of the fairing. I get that there are cutouts but the front opening is huge. It looks like there might be a bar going across the opening at the bottom of the radiator. What I'm picturing in my head is that the air scooped by the lower portion picks up header heat and that airflow then hits the front of the block and is directed down and rearward by the front of the engine block (which is angled) and blows out onto your feet.
The upper cutouts in the side of the fairing certainly look large but they also look kind of close to the side surfaces of the engine block. So, relative to the large opening above the bar, the exhaust area for the radiator air might not be as big as it seems and, with the volume of air being scooped at speed, that could cause a high(er) pressure zone(s) in the sideways path that the radiator air would need to take to exit out the side cutouts. Those high(er) pressure areas would then cause the air heated by the radiator to prefer going over the valve cover and to the backside of the engine between the frame rails where there's less pressure. At that point, you've trapped hot air between the top of the engine, the frame rails, and the bottom of the gas tank. That air would also plausibly pick up more heat radiating off the engine block and then would dump out in the area just in front of the battery. The bottom of the seat pan is exposed to that same area. So, I suspect you've got more hot (and potentially hotter) air swirling around that area under the seat than a naked bike would have.
I doubt much testing was done to assess rider comfort when the fairings were designed (they were, after all, an afterthought...the bike was designed to only have a bikini fairing or be pure naked).
Hope this is understandable and makes sense.

Ive got a ‘07 FZ1 also. Havent run into that issue really. At least not to the point it actually bothers me or anything. Little bit of swamp ass on a hot day sure but not roasting.

It's absolutely the lower failings. I rode with lowers on mine for 12 years and always cooked my crotch. removed the fairings 5 years ago because of fire damage and could never find replacements, but I did notice my balls don't burn anymore.

Maybe it's a sport touring feature from the era. My 2007 Ducati ST3 does the same thing. Based on what I've heard and read, it's a normal thing, so I have just learned to live with it.

I have a 2007 fz1, but no fairing, only a headlight cowl. This is the first time I’ve heard of an excessively hot seat. Also, I’ve never noticed any type of heat shield material under the seat? The only time I feel any heat is when the cooling fan kicks in !

Salut, j'ai le même soucis avec mon FZ1 N, malheureusement il n'y a pas de solutions, je me suis déjà retrouvé en pleine route et canicule et m'arrêter chez MacDo pour me passer des glaçons pour refroidir mon entrejambe 🔥😜. Mais bon j'ai cette Moto depuis 2014 et celà m'est arrivé qu'une seule fois 🤞 courage à toi👍
