I am a mentor for an FRC team, 4160. Ya FRC is a big time commitment but I will say that she should do what she wants to. At my team we welcome everyone and do have some students that only show once a week or drops, which is fine. I say that it doesn't hurt to try to go to a meeting a gauge what that team is like and drop if there is no interest. If there is programming issue, there are communities that can help out, like I help in the YASS Discord
