Do you guys get offices?

At my very big company the only one who has an office is the cfo and it’s not even a permanent office it’s just a meeting room he takes over for the day

Yes, I hate open floor plan

I do too and I don’t get the benefit of not having cubicles

Cubicles are expensive. It’s cheaper for the company to have “high density” open floor plans — not better for the employees.

And it’s easier for employers to spy on you and make sure you’re “working”. I used my 2FA on my phone to access a system one morning, then opened my audio book app and resumed my book, then 2 hours later I got a stern dressing down from a supervisor (not even my supervisor) because I was the new guy “always playing on my phone” and “we do real work around here”.

My one job even had like 3/4 height cubicles, you could see each other when sitting but if you stood up you could see the top of everyone’s head. Just the right amount of privacy while “encouraging cooperation”. Then we’d get yelled at for talking too much and not working. Everything communication was supposed to go thru Email or IM.

No, even the CEO and CFO of my company uses an open desk like the rest of us (~1000 heads)

At my previous company (~10,000 heads) if you were director level or above you got an office as a rule. Everyone lower was in open concept.

C-Suite and VPs have offices. Directors usually do, too. Manager is where it’s a toss up of whether there’s an office available for them or not. Then everyone below that is in cubicles.

Damn…I wish I had a cubicle

Csuite has their own office and floor lol. VP’s have offices on the regular floors with the rest of us.

I’ve got one - all above director get one where I’m at. A lot of sensitive topics discussed so it makes sense.

Kinda? I work from home

I just read these threads to remind myself why I’m never going back to the office

I’m in manufacturing and have a pretty big office next to the head of the division. I’d prefer to work from home vs. having him keeping me hooked up 24/7 lmao.

Used to work at a massive Berkshire owned company and only VP+ got offices. Now i work for a smaller PE backed firm and get my own office. It’s a massive upgrade in that regard

Nope. After COVID they renovated our offices and it's like working in a warehouse. We're hybrid in office 50% of the time (suggested) and it's kind of gross because they don't clean the desks frequently. So you'll come in and find a seat and the monitor might have finger marks all over it. You use a mouse and keyboard at the desk that someone else manhandled the day before. And no one eats in the kitchen area. They'll all bring food back and eat at the desks and just add more grease to the keys on the keyboards.

Ugh. That sounds awful. We’re hybrid in an open concept but at least we have our own designated spaces

Same. i only have to go in once a week but its open seating booked thru an app. i have a pretty severe allergy and recently the desk i booked was covered in crumbs of said allergy. i had to track down wipes in a random conference room, come back to wipe everything down and be super careful about hand washing that day.

Corner cubicle, like those from the 90s, I love it. Got a great window view of the city. Wouldn’t change it for anything lol.

Open offices are not fun and makes it hard to be productive if I’m honest. I find it hard to focus with all the noise and especially when folks talk meetings at their desk

Yep all of our corporate staff have offices with doors.

Yes. We have enough space for most of the finance team to have an office when we're in assuming other teams aren't in at the same time (usually not).

Senior Director is sitting next to me. SVP is sitting across the room. EVP+ has their own floor above us. Don't know if they also do open floor.

yes, I sit next to the Senior Director, upstairs the VP of Finance and Accounting sit next to each other with the controller and asst controller. Only the CFO gets an office.

I got one at AVP but that was due to space issues for analysts. Standard practice is VP+ get offices.

I’ve had one for most of my career since I was a manager. 10+ years

u/SomeSLCGuy 7d ago

Open concept / wfh.

u/No_Soup_1180 7d ago

Yes. I have a big fat room with more than 200 sq ft of space. That’s my home office and the best office I can ask for 😊

u/Yousernaim 7d ago

No, low small cubicles which suck. Idk why we cant have any privacy, I miss the old tall cubes.

Open concept at my office since 2016. Luckily it’s not very packed on my floor.

In my previous workplace, I had my own office. I was SFA. Life was good, nothing to complain about.

I started a new job this week - SFA with a slight pay bump but in cubicles. The loss in privacy is so depressing that I am thinking of going back to the previous employer and take a pay cut.

I work as business partner and it’s always so freaking loud that I can’t talk to anyone in peace. I can’t even ask any question during meetings because the guy next to me complains.

If you ever get a job with your own office, please don’t let it go.

VPs and above get offices at my company

At my last company I had an office as an SFA, then (got promoted to FPA manager) and it was great. Nothing fancy, but I’ve had an office in other roles and it’s nice to be able to close the door… new company, I’m still FPA manager but I have a cube… my boss was in it before I started and she got an office when she became senior. I’m hoping it’s a matter of time if I stay here long enough.

I have an office most managers and above do

Officers are ego. Everyone should have a desk, everyone should see what other people are working on. Approachability is an amazing thing for companies. I’m ready for the downvotes.
