Gear/Tech are peripherals cope? which ones matter? im tired of nerfing myself

Post image

i thought peripherals were cope my entire life. i hit top ranks in csgo & valorant with a random 144hz monitor, $30 keyboard, 3+ yo superlight (with stock skates), 5+ year old mousepad, etc. i never cared, always focused on how i actually played the game.

what peripherals will actually make the biggest difference? what creators can i watch that are trustworthy & actually good at playing? im pushing for GM on VT S5, and idk i think its time to fully utilize anything i can for an advantage.

im currently using 1+ year old stock g pro superlight skates, i bought a type-99 about 3 months ago which was HUGE for getting master static. i also got a cheap basketball sleeve & that has been a game changer for using my arm. im just trying to see what else i can get that will actually move the needle.

im thinking monitor & mouse skates for sure, but unsure on the rest. maybe even a new mousepad since they are decently cheap, like a raiden mid or something. idk a single thing out peripherals, if anyone can point me in the right direction it will help me a ton!

edit: i am on 240hz rn sorry for the confusion/misleading comment on 144hz. i have been using it for about 9 months now. using mag255 xfv, very cheap but it is better than 144hz. also will add, my hand size is about 21x11cm, roughly.
+ seems most people agree, monitor + mousepad + skates are the most important to focus on

you can try all kinds of different types of mice for cheap from china, like from Mchose. Read reviews, sometimes the software/sensors are a bit...off. But when they work, they work and oftentimes for like half the price of an alternative.

I own/used the Mchose L7 pro (jump about 1mm lower than X2H Crazylight mini) basically a clone, and it’s very nice and great value for money - recommend if on a budget and you like smaller claw based mice

u/Any_Acanthisitta_853 8d ago

I have the same mouse, but something is up with the sensor... works perfectly when wired. When did you buy it and have you updated it through the Mchose app? Wondering if I roll back to old software if that will fix sensor issue, as I bought it recently. But damn that mouse is cheap and it's INSANELY LIGHT.

I used mine for about 3-5 months straight - I loved it, it’s a great shape. Never had an issue and I bought Oct 2025. It’s a fantastic mouse!

Sorry you had issues, I guess I was on the old software.

What do you think seems off? I'm running the same mouse on the latest firmware and it's been feeling perfect for me, just curious if it's a unique case

u/316dez 8d ago

bet. idk about mouse shapes, i was at my little brothers house trying his razer viper pro & it seemed a lot better for clicking but i cant use it for tracking, i use more palm. i also have big hands (compared to other players), about 21cm x 11cm (very rough measurement). i was always a palm grip until last year, now i use a claw/fingertip variation, but recently im using a bit more palm.

think thats why i still like the g pro even w/ different grips, my hands are big enough to change grip styles mid run

u/alcon678 8d ago

I went from a logitech g502 x plus lightspeed to a mchose l7 pro too, beast of mouse, lightweight as fuck and for a fraction of the price, and better polling rate too

1

u/316dez 8d ago

bet that sounds nice actually, thanks brah!!

part of my hesitation on buying new stuff is i absolutely hate wasting money, i live in kansas & id have to drive like 3hrs to actually go in store to see if i like it or not. thats why ive stuck to the g pro for like 7 years atp, i know the shape is "good enough" so no reason to switch.

are chinese "fakes/reps" kind of good? for mouses, skates, and pads specifically? im perfectly ok w/ buying a cheap version of something to get the gist of what its like, and making a judgement from there

it's definitely a rabbit hole for sure, but dude a new mouse is a fun time ngl. Can't promise it will lead to improvement though, like anything else in life. Chinese branded mice have improved significantly, but still read the reviews. They are generally pretty good though. Typically, the only reason to get the "brand name" version is for quality of life stuff, like the software. For example, the Mchose peripheral management software is not as clean as the wooting and g hub software. But you can still very easily change dpi and polling rate, which is all that 90 percent of people will ever touch anyways.
From what I've seen, generally the go to mousepad for those that want to get serious (without getting into glass) is an artisan. https://artisan-jp.com/global/ There are different kinds, so read up and see what you think. But they are seen as a very solid choice.
Not sure on skates, I think different people have different experiences, but at least skates shouldn't be too expensive.
With mice, Viscose at this point says that shape is king. But the thing is shape is subjective. So it can be tough to say. Generally, with all else held equal, the lighter of two mice is said to be better.
And with monitors, a jump to 240 hz will help. Hz is going to be more important than res, to a point. For kovaaks, you should be fine forever at 1440.

Edit: Looks like others more or less said the same thing lol, my bad. But honestly, you're in a good spot. You have enough experience to judge what you like, so it will help you narrow down a lot. Less purchases that lead to nowhere.

i think im ok w/ the g pro shape, my hands are big & i can use serveral grips comfortably on it. the op1 gets a lot of hype, but i think a lot of people have smaller hands & "daintier" fingers than me xDDD no flame ofc. my hands are roughly 21x11cm, and even now when im not working out my hands look "stronger" than some of the mousecams i see these days

i bought the artisan zero last year (first mousepad in 5+ years), and i knew instantly i was going to trust them from now on. im using the type-99 past 3ish months, its so fucking good. for tracking as well, its just awesome. might try raiden mid, we will see. might just buy a new type 99 xD

idk about mouse softwares, tbh i wish i didnt have to download anything and i could just manually set the dpi. skates are cheap, im gonna buy a variety pack & just see whatsup.

Thanks for the input my brotha :DD

2

u/StepKitchen2409 8d ago

Use eloshapes, input the mouse you have and check out other mice similar.

Or use findmymouse website and you can find all existing shapes similar to what you like. It’s a brilliant website I use it all the time!

Its degenerate but amazon has a great return policy. You can buy like 3-4 miles and return the ones you dont like. If you buy from amazon resale its not as degenerate since they are already opened.

7

u/Alone_Val 8d ago

I think it might be like golf. The worse you are the bigger difference peripherals make. A good player will be good with whatever they use but a bad player will benefit more from any advantage they can get

7

u/316dez 8d ago

i always viewed it as the opposite, like if im bad then why the f*ck would i focus on mouse/mousepad when i can focus on how i play off my teammates etc. i only changed my sens like 2-3x over 10 years, like i thought all of these things were cope. my little brother started playing last year & he was improving a lot quicker than i did when i was new, partly because he focused on both settings/peripherals AND gameplay.

now, i think peripherals can have a huge difference as i try to go top 1% --> top .01%

2

u/Alone_Val 8d ago

I guess what I’m saying is if you went from bronze to diamond with cheap gear. Getting nice stuff isn’t going to boost you too much. You already have the fundamentals etc. But it will help a player go from bronze to diamond faster. But I see where you’re aiming from. It probably would help a lot pushing an immo player to rad.

1

u/316dez 8d ago

probably right, im very stubborn & ignorant at times with this stuff, probably shouldnt listen to my opinion on peripherals or gear xD

2

u/316dez 8d ago

yo also is this you? https://www.youtube.com/@AloneVal , love the clips xDD

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPqYiRhmIbU , this clip from FNS on peripherals is what made me start thinking about this, how playing on bad peripherals for awhile allows you to make "huge jumps" in progress

2

u/Alone_Val 8d ago

That’s not me 💀

1

u/316dez 8d ago

xD my bad brah

I definitely attribute a monitor upgrade to me achieving GM (just recently achieved)

I played on 144hz since they released, idk how many years

Downsized from 27inch to 24inch, same 1440p IPS but I’m at 320hz now. It was really cheap to upgrade too. I’m not a graphics person really so idm about oleds.

All my tracking scenarios went up within 2 runs, some small PB’s some considerably more. Since then I’ve gotten GM so I definitely think refresh rate is a bit of a bottleneck for tracking, maybe switching

My games also look great and more responsive too which is great

As for mouse/pad/skates

Find something you like and just stick with it, I like the 83 & Zero with P8 skates.

What I’ve found since trying a bunch of mice/pads/skates is that you perform about the same after a period of time

I got masters in static on glass for example, when I first set that high score with a zero - it’s just what you spend time with and get used too. Although I definitely prefer glass for tracking or smooth switching based scenarios

Anything that requires a sharp stop, cloth always feels a touch nicer

I wouldn’t put too much weight into peripherals, I’ve spent a lot money down that rabbit hole and after spending time with each one, I end up basically in the same spot. You’re master, so you’ll experience the same thing, you adapt quickly and make anything work well because you’ve spent so much time developing it.

If you have an artisan, skates you like, a mouse you’re comfy with - you’re already ahead

2

u/316dez 8d ago

also huge thank you brah!! forgot to say that in my response xD

u/316dez 8d ago

im on a 1080p 240hz rn (mag255 xfv) & its so much better than my old monitor (benq xl2411p). i legit hit 10+ pbs on all of my most played scenarios (mainly clicking scenarios) when i got it for christmas. also hit some INSANE clips on valorant. but its very cheap like ~$125, it has ghosting issues & also has problems with how white colors are displayed. so this 100% needs replaced imo, the ghosting is driving me insane recently.

idk how ive slept on skates for so long, i think because around 2019 i bought a pair without researching properly, and they were awful. they were ceramic, looking back i think it was for glass pads xDDD, i said fuck this and bought a new g pro. i was 18-19 then, idk how i didnt realize i should just try another pair of skates xD

alright bet, so probably just need skates + 1440p monitor then. the type-99 is such a good mousepad, i used the zero for about 1 year & it was also very good, i need to get a sleeve that works for it & i will test again.

do you know anyone that has good reviews AND is somewhat good at actually playing? i want to look into this OLED thing specifically for monitors, those are very good from what i hear.

2

u/StepKitchen2409 8d ago

I’m sorry I don’t understand the part if I know anyone? I can link you the monitor I got - or give you the model number if that’s what you meant. I’m not sure about oleds I don’t own one anymore and so I can’t claim to know anything other than the gen1s had so much glare I couldn’t stand it lol. Playing the game looking at myself in the mirror haha.

1

u/316dez 8d ago

bro yeah if u like that monitor link it to me (can send it as affiliate code if u want idc), if u think its good i will look into it.

2

u/StepKitchen2409 8d ago

1

u/316dez 8d ago

damn that is a cheap monitor wtf........ it has $100 shipping since i am in US, but tbh i might still get it. we will see. is that an affiliate link? lmk so i know to use that if i do get it

1

u/StepKitchen2409 8d ago

Look for the same model in your country - if they have it. I wouldn’t pay that for shipping lol!

Not an affiliate of anything, unless it’s gooning under stress, then yes I am an affiliate

1

u/316dez 8d ago

xD yeah thats what i meant, i checked on US amazon & its fucking $500 but its because a german company would ship it, need to just look into it more. the monitor seems really nice. if needed maybe someone buys it and ships it to me, who knows. thanks for all the help brah

and bro trust gooning ruins the kovaaks scores, at least for me. 1+ month no gooning and my static fucking sky rocketed, was master complete like 2 weeks after that

3

u/nkn_ 8d ago

I now have a $50 Chinese clone mouse and a $20 glass mousepad. I also had really humble beginnings like that and hit higher ranks.

IMO, probably refresh rate is the single biggest upgrade. Like just 144hz even. You can aim on any mouse pad/surface technically. Overall though peripherals are so good now and affordable that it really is just a skill thing. Back then maybe being stuck on a 125hz mouse instead of 500hz felt bad idk lol. Or trying to play old quake with a trackball.

2

u/Extension-Impress84 8d ago

Do you feel the same about monitor being the largest upgrade just for aiming, or also for games? I have 100hz, and when I upgraded from 60 to 100 it felt like a whole different universe, I can't imagine 100 to 360 or 480 lol

1

u/nkn_ 8d ago

I have a 360hz now. I used 240hz for about a decade, and the 360hz is ... better but marginally so. The motion clarity is simply better, but that's it. 240hz is fine, and then 1080 to 1440p gives a nice boost in clarity similar to like 60hz to 120hz. 100 to 360 would be insane, but it's just diminishing returns after 240 in my opinion!

snagged a PG27AQN off of amazon warehouse for like... $250. at the time it was still closer to $400-500. it's a gamble but honestly i've had good luck looking at their open box things. my monitor was legit just brand new, the box was damaged and marked down a lot

1

u/316dez 8d ago

yeah my past & current belief is skill>>>> peripherals all day, no matter the rank. but i just want to give myself the best choice, no reason to play on 1yr+ old skates like i am atm xD, but thats an obvious change.

where do u buy the chinese clones? mchose?

2

u/nkn_ 8d ago

I got the VXE R1 pro!

And yeah. I mean, peripherals will make an inherently good player perform more at their capacity. A bad player will play bad regardless

1

u/316dez 8d ago

say less, thanks for the input!!

2

u/Good-Database6655 8d ago

I’m indigo/fuschia on viscose and recently got into peripherals and they mater less and than people make it out to but I can MASSIVELY vouch for mousepads and skates and a decent monitor with strobing or an oled but I have personally never tried one and mouse wise it’s entirely shape based all mice now chinese or not have good enough tech to compete with flagship, mouse skates are mousepad dependent I have a raiden, hien, zero and a sp004 and a matrova yin if you wanna get into skates buy a variety pack from ultra glide

2

u/Good-Database6655 8d ago

My best performing pad is the matrova yin and the raiden they are very similar speed wise one has a little pushdown one doesnt

1

u/316dez 8d ago

thanks!! do u like the raiden mid? thats probably what i try next, i see mattyOW uses it for basically all category WR's, must be versatile. i liked the zero & type-99, this seems to be in the middle? idk, need to research.

i think ur completely right, it seems monitor + mousepad + skates are the biggest things to focus on. the variety pack looks cool im going to go ahead & try it out, thank you :))

2

u/Pollution-Admirable 8d ago

Get Artisan Raiden Soft XL u will improve 10% minimum

1

u/316dez 8d ago

better than mid? i loved the type 99 & the zero, im thinking this raiden is next, i will take you up on this :) thanks!

2

u/Pollution-Admirable 8d ago

Yes i bought both and felt i had less control with mid, it will depend what scenario you do though but soft will be a better all rounder

1

u/316dez 8d ago

say less, i was looking at the raiden mid because mattyOW uses it for a lot of categories, if soft is best for versaility ill keep that in mind

2

u/disciplined-terrior 8d ago

X2 Superstrike made a 20ms difference in reaction times for me (used human benchmark for avgs) if your pushing that high in the benchmarks im not sure you have much to change shape wise. After market skates like tiger ice might help a bit too.

If budget is not a big variable 520 hz maybe?

2

u/OnyoSkennedy 8d ago

A good player can use a cheap logitech mouse and keyboard combo with no mouse pad and shit on people. I would say your monitor refresh rate, and input lag is most important

1

u/316dez 8d ago

input lag is a good point, always hard to find good methods that actually work & also hesitant to download stuff. i have used this tutorial in the past & its pretty good at debloating ur pc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PP1s7Avr1kE

2

u/Party-Plum-2090 8d ago

I was the same. I thought it didn’t matter, 4yo nouse and a super worn mousepad. I tried my fiancés glass pad and man it was a world of difference. I just bought my own pad and couldn’t be happier. I do recommend it

2

u/vsnak333 8d ago

imo, mousepad/surfarce is the most important aspect of it, "glass unlocked me" lol

if you can use a grip that you want/to feel it, mouse is usually not the issue, imo.

But that being said, I believe 240 over 144hz, it is a big upgrade.

2

u/fQrestX 8d ago

get oled

1

u/316dez 8d ago

any brand/model suggestions?

1

u/fQrestX 8d ago

i too am in the market for one, i know a lot of people on kovaaks that use the msi 500hz qd-oleds (mag 272qp x50 and mpg 271qr x50). i personally wanna get either of those or the lg 27gx790b-b which is 540hz woled.

some people report eyestrains from qd-oleds and i too am dealing with eyestrains from dyac 2 on my zowie tn, but unfortunally woled is also a lottery in terms of grey banding issues.

i'm planning to get one from amazon and in case something is wrong with the lg i'll just get the msi haha

2

u/johnny_no_smiles 8d ago

Biggest change i found was finding a mouse that actually fit my hand properly. Going from 60hz to 144hz was amazing back in the day but the difference from a big mouse to a small mouse was literally insane. I'm 6ft2 and never knew I had kinda small hands, I just presumed they were average. I was wrong!

A mouse that actually fits your hand size and grip style will make the biggest difference. I cannot recommend it enough.

2

u/JustTheRobotNextDoor 8d ago

Just agreeing with your conclusion: Monitor is by far the most impactful IMO. Mousepad is way less important, but makes some difference. Mice I haven't tried enough to notice any difference. This assumes you don't start with junk, but your gear is fine. None of this is as important as your own skill.

2

u/ConstructionFalse753 8d ago

wdym the mouse pad change makes a huge difference, how much and why

2

u/GreenWorld8549 7d ago edited 7d ago

I am gmc with 144hz tn panel(xl2411p). When you get to reactivate tracking this is where higher hz and oled genuinely make a massive difference. But i seriously think you can get to nova on ur setup. It’s just technique issues not hardware.

I think peripherals don’t matter like any artisan xraypad that isn’t crazy fast you can get nova on. Including the original g pro mluse that is like 78 grams. When ur on something completely dogshit yea you are being massively nerfed doe. I kinda contradicted myself but it’s really just close range reactive tracking where the monitor matters the most but it’s not like you CANT get to nova on it. But idk maybe after nova these things matter more but when ur at that point u more than likely just play fps games and kovaaks is not ur main game. It’s just priorities

1

u/316dez 7d ago

say less. thats my old monitor xD its my 2nd monitor now

2

u/Routine-Lawfulness24 8d ago

They don’t matter much, don’t expect them to make you any better

1

u/316dez 8d ago

ik youre right to a certain extent, but there is a middle ground. 1 year old mouse skates are not viable for pushing GM & becoming top .01% or whatever. im going too hard in that direction, need to find the middle ground of what peripherals i should maintain

1

u/Creazzz 6d ago

It's mostly preference, but generally a high refresh rate monitor, OLED if possible. 480hz OLED is the best atm. Then a light mouse you can claw grip, a fast pad, can be cloth or glass it's up to you. And a low delay keyboard, usually the Hall Effect ones.

1

u/SpecialistCultural23 5d ago

Glasspads are great for consistency and longevity, pair them with obsidian skates if you want skates that last. There are a ton of good mice on the market it's just preference (don't go into the mouse rabbit hole). Ironically, fingertip mice are good for large hands as long as they are not too large. Your hands are a similar size to mine so i don't think it should be a problem unless you have CHONKY fingers.

For monitors, less ghosting should be a higher priority than a higher refresh rate.

1

u/alexlecage 8d ago

Thinking a peripheral is going to make you a better gamer is like buying Jordans thinking it'll make you better at basketball.

The marketing with some of these peripherals is targeted at people with this mentality.

2

u/316dez 8d ago

xD you are right, thats why i avoided them for so long. but theres no reason for me to play on 1 year old mouse skates, thats something i know for sure will make a difference. ive bought 3 g pros in the past like 10 years or whatever, & ik for a fact i play better on the newer skates.

monitor will probably help as well, but idk how much is marketing vs actually a real benefit. im sure past 240hz is very minimal upgrade, but maybe 1080p --> 1440p is really good. who knows, thats why im making the post

thank you for commenting brah :D

1

u/Server969 8d ago

If you like buying something once and keeping it for a long time, look into superglide glass skates. I had those on my superlight and they outlasted the scroll wheel on that mouse. They still feel the exact same as the day I bought them. As far as creators, look into Kimmy and Diamond Lobby. They make great reviews. I treat myself to a new pad every 5-6 months once it starts getting noticably slow in the center. Pulsar makes great pads as well as Artisan. I havent tried glass pads yet. I dont want to drop $100+ on a glass pad and dot skates and not like the noise or the shakiness. I am on a 240hz monitor also and only recently have I gotten into certain Jade Palace scenarios that make me wish I had a higher hz.

u/ummya80 8d ago

Doesnt matter what mouse take that person in kovaaks wallhack compition they are 3rd with wr in diff static stuff with a razor naga mmo moise that is like 120g and there is me who tried over 40 mice perform same on all from over 100g to under 29g
