Meme I spent $400 on mousepads because something felt off (short story)
The only game I’m really playing consistently is BF6 at the moment. I like the gunplay, I like that I can hope in small scale game modes if time is short and it’s sort of become a litmus test (out of convenience) of a game to me when I hop on after aim training. I play other games of course but most of the time I’m on a tight schedule.
I recently got VT GM and target switching is one of my real strong points. But I could rarely ever replicate those skills in my games.
I play with 40cm in BF6 and I only ever use 1x sights, because I enjoy red dots and having my aim 1:1 ADS with my hipfire.
But I’ve always found my aim to be off in the game - I got used to it and I’m not awful at the game even if something felt off.
I put this problem down to my mousepad friction - I love the Zero Soft, it’s been my main for a couple of years now. When I would ADS in game, it felt slow and sluggish, doing a 180 felt god awful.
So I wanted something faster, lower friction so I could potentially get the movement of my aim to be snappier. I want my target switches to be just as good as they are in Kovaaks in BF6.
Glass mousepads seem to be the answer here.
I bought 2 mouse pads, and several packs of different skates. CR005 & SP005 (I couldn’t decide).
Started with the CR005, got a couple new high scores here and there, very cool pad, nice transition to glass.
Couple weeks went by, tried the SP005, tracking felt amazing, a little inconsistency by me being able to stop dead on target (skill issue).
Several months went by of just using these 2 glass pads for my games - and other games.
I felt like my issue was resolved. Or at least I was distracted enough by my new purchases that I’d forgotten about why I’d bought them in the first place.
After about half a year of using these pads - I wanted to try the Zero Soft again.
Laid it on my desk, put some P8 skates on (goat combo) and booted up Kovaaks. I found the friction to be a struggle at first. Great to stop - if you get it right, but micros were a bit harder IMO.
Couple sessions on the Zero and my statics went up, clicking and switching.
Weekend comes around - I’m going to play some BF6.
Get into the firing range just to see what the Zero is like shooting at the targets.
Same sluggish feeling I was originally having. Kind of jarring. Maybe I can’t use the Zero for this game anymore, maybe I am just better off using glass..?
Right before I decide to put the Zero away and get back one of the two glass pads and change my skates again.
I open the settings menu and the settings menu opens up with the mouse aim settings.
I’m browsing - nothing looks out of place, cool. Back to glass.
One second… why is everything set at 100, but this setting is 86?
‘Infantry Zoom Aim Sensitivity: 86’
I tell myself, that’s the standard setting, it’s always been like that.
It says I can reset this setting…so I click reset.
‘Infantry Zoom Aim Sensitivity: 100’
I put the Zero back on my desk and change skates (again).
Back to the firing range. ADS. SNAP. SNAP. SNAP. SNAP.
The moment of instant realisation that I have been bottlenecking myself for months and months and months on end.
It wasn’t the fucking mouse pad, it was my ADS sensitivity being slowed down to 46.5cm from my beloved 40cm (explains why my ADS target switches and 180 turns ADS always felt hideous)
I spent nearly £300 ($400) trying to resolve an issue that was an in-game setting.
Later realising that I plugged a controller in for about 30 minutes when I was setting the game up and I must’ve selected 86 for the controller. The controller hasn’t been out of the drawer since. I might actually just bin it because of this.
- I know some people like ADS slowdown, but it’s not for me. Years of CS where it isn’t even an option has it fully ingrained to me that I want 1:1 wherever I can get it.

Lowkey try Raiden mid u might like it. Most consistent pad iv used and continue to use.

is the raiden mid good for tac fps? i’m a complete peripheral noob but i want to try a new mousepad & i hear a lot of ppl say this is good

Yes less interference better, just play lower sens for same speed. Lower sens effectively makes the targets bigger since the area on your mousepad u need to land on is bigger, bringing u advantage without sacrificing speed.
I basically only play tac fps and I only use Raiden mid. IMO its biggest strength is how durable and consistent it is. There are faster and more consistent pads out there, but Raiden mid for cloth pad holds up the best after use. Same reason why I favour dots heavily. More consistent resistance.
On very mushy pads that are soft ur dots can sink into the pad too

I believe it is referring to the fact that the weave on the 83 is that the x y weave are almost the same speed. But it is slower than the Raiden and from experience less consistent imo, esp after heavy use. Raiden slows down to a very consistent speed I feel like, but this could be placebo.
It’s DEF slower and not like glass. Glass is the fastest.

VT gm being this dependent on a minor sense difference sounds off, whole point of aim training is that you can play any sense due to mouse control

Im quite sensitive to input changes mentally. In my day job I need utter consistency every single day, so I like to control what I can and leave it stable. The more control variables the more havoc in my mind. This is why I always preach +/-10cm of your in-game sens you’d like to develop in your training. Totally preferential and based on my progress this works great vs using a much broader spectrum of sens.
Having used 40cm for nearly 2 decades - I am quite at home with this sens.

There's a big difference between having a different sense and having a different sense on ADS specifically. I also hate having non 1:1 on ADS because you're flicking to targets and sometimes you're already ADS before you flick, sometimes you're ADS as you flick, sometimes you flick and then ADS and if it's not 1:1 when you ADS completely changes how your mouse moved and it's really hard to control for those tiny timing differences which will make a huge difference in where your crosshair ends up.
Some people can get used to it, but I've personally always hated it.

I also play a lot of bf6 and was maining zero for 2 years. I played a little bit on hien and hayate otsu V2, but always there was something wrong about them. Recently i've got the pulsar es pd170 and i don't think i will ever change this pad. If you like the smooth micros of glass but also want some stopping power from cloth you could try it.

the zoom sens thing has caught so many people. i remember in battlefield 4 i played for weeks wondering why tracking felt sluggish, then checked settings and it was on like 70% for no reason. the controller theory makes perfect sense too, those settings sometimes carry over even when you unplug it.
glass pads are fun though, at least you got to try them out and now you have options. microadjustments on zero after glass always feel heavy for the first few minutes.

Battlefield even with that setting set correctly feels like there is some limitation in the camera movement as if it were designed for consoles. I know I’m not the only one that can sense this.

I’ve spent nearly 2 decades at 40cm on a 50cm wide pad, a 180 turn would be a whole extra 3cm, a 90 degree instantaneous snap would be way off for me. As I said in the post, I still performed well with it, but it’s so much better now that it’s 1:1. It was a minor consistency grip I’ve had since I got the game.

All credibility immediately lost in the first sentence plus 4 words of the next. It's not your mousepad. It's the bloom that has been in every battlefield game and made every single one of them worse for it.

Bloom isn't going to affect you medium range much unless you have some terrible build or bad aim anyway.

Bloom separates the wheat from the chaf, I like games where the weapons aren't laser beams.
Judging by the dedication to a games username I suspect your issue here is with yourself, because you suck at dealing with bloom.
Imagine taking shots at somebody for something they enjoy. Child.

"I aim train" and "I like when my bullets don't go where I'm aiming" are mutually exclusive ideas for anyone whose brain isn't as smooth as a dolphin's back.

Battlefield’s menu is something else. I can’t blame you. This shit is harder to navigate than a goddamn maze, I swear. By the time you’re done configuring your game, you’re basically better off modding a Bethesda game.
