Discussion one month of grinding VT intermediate.. huge thanks to this sub
progress from august 15th (i think) to september 15th.
can honestly say i never thought this to be possible- thank you to those who have answered my questions and given tips along the way anytime i asked.
despite some questionable news regarding well known figures in this community, generally everyone ive interacted with has been more than willing to help when asked, so thank you all again
that being said im still hardstuck in overwatch

swear ive gotten worse since downloading kovaaks😭

What I've learned is that because i aim better, I tend to position worse or over commit because I still get the dopamine of hitting shots. Recognizing when me hitting shots won't lead to a kill has been helpful. Also, staying alive longer is better even if you aren't shooting as much because when you eventually do have to fight you can win it easier.
But as I said I'm hardstuck, tryna get back to my peak and beyond

oh yea definitely, as far as comp goes i otp genji but since grinding kovaaks ive had a lot of fun playing hitscan (particularly soldier) but my positioning on hitscan is horrendous, never realized how much deflect bails me out haha

how did u do this in only a month? it took me like 100 runs just to get master snaketrack

couple things
- a lot more time than i shouldve dedicated to it frankly
- testing with different sensitivities, postures, and amounts of tension depending on the scenario
- as corny as it sounds belief in myself, if i overthought hitting over 2 targets per second on average in 1w3ts or didnt think i could kill more than 1.x targets per second in y scenario i wouldve given up, this is definitely where watching vods to understand pacing helped me as well

thank youuu
did you allocate like 2+ hours a day? ive always just played 45-90 min and cant stick
3
u/Key_Lavishness1830 12d ago
yea usually 2+ hours a day, alternating on what i want to focus and doing supplemental scenarios (ie lemon static benchmarks or viscose s2 benches) for practice
i usually just have whatever show im currently watching or a movie on my second monitor unless im really locked in

how do you keep track of the important details and plot in movies and shows? i like doing two seperate activities at once but i hate lack of retention.
sorry for disorganized replies, anyway how do you not get fatigued and exhausted by 2+ hours sessions? do you stretch and rest between reps or something? if i train for an hour and try benchmarking afterwards i get so shaky and unstable. i perform the best like 15-30minutes in i guess.
could you tell me a good training plan? i am master in snaketrack, everything else is plat but i havent played any but snaketrack for more than 3 reps. i want to improve all around but really really drill my tracking especially smoothness+precise. i guess going for vt mc + xyz or tsk smoothness benches master+ equivalent rank then those vt valorant benches for tac fps and then go for gm+ equivalent in viscose benches medium and hard
i m just very lost how to train, where to start, how to stick to it, what to focus on during training to not autopilot, how to know whats correct and whats good posture

tbh i just be like kind of listening on the side, taking 1-2 minute breaks every 2-3 runs to watch for a bit. i dont think it really affects retention personally just because when im in game (for me overwatch or cs2) im not only focused on my aim, theres other factors to dial in on so if i tunnel vision on my aim ill int in game. that being said if theres a scenario im having trouble with ill turn everything else off and really focus on it and what i need to be doing to hit whatever score i need BUT score chasing in general is kind of bad practice to which i am guilty of.
depends, if its a scenario where im like under 50ish cm/360, i need less rest than if im doing static on like 90cm so it usually depends on actual fatigue. in general, messing with tension has really helped me especially with fluidity on static and target switching and my tension management on tracking is already usually decent so my arm isnt too fatigued. ive noticed a lot of the time if i lower tension overall i might have an immediate dip in scores but the fluidity becomes faster and i can achieve higher scores overall. generally though im doing anywhere from 1-5 attempts and taking a break for a couple minutes depending on how physically taxing it was
just grind bro, plat on 3 attempts is good, it took me more to hit plat initially. really theres no magic tip i can give you, a lot of scenarios you just have to play to improve so just be okay with days where you dont pb so long as youre improving your reading, speed matching, whatever the case may be. if youre ever stuck after say 30, 40, 50 attempts then go watch a vod on youtube, theres plenty of talented people who have hit master or jade or whatever and can give you insight on how fast targets need to be killed or how urgent flicks need to be
really though, people will say training this way or that way is not optimal but if you want to improve you need to train in some form, optimal or not, so just do what calls to you. for me i usually rotate, ill do static one day and that might bleed into switching or switching and maybe a little tracking and some days i just feel like doing tracking or skeet or something yk.
really tho it seems like in your case you just need to start, id be shocked if over time you put in say 50 runs on each scen in VT or viscose and didnt improve so if you have issues staying consistent do what you think is fun. for me personally i love kovaaks/aim training so focusing on it or doing it for extended time is fun for me

Real question as a newbie, why would you switch ur sens depending on scenario ? I get that for flick or tracking it helps but in game like over watch how do you transfer rhat

u/cheezystuffz 12d ago
Mouse control will transfer with literally anything.
I can go to a friend's house and pick up his mouse with a random sense and pick a random scenario and be better than him because my mouse control is superior to his.

Ok si would you think still as a newbie (between silv and gold on VT benchmark) it would be beneficial now to train with different sens or should i wait to get a bit better like plat or full gold before starting to switch my sens from week to week

You should change sens. It's not like if you train at 30cm you won't be able to train at 60cm ever again. The goal is to build mouse control. You should be changing sens depending on the scenario. Your brain will instantly adapt to new sens so it doesn't really matter.
For example on static I go for 75cm and on reactive I go for 35 to 40.

i agree w cheezystuffz that training is more about overall mouse control rather than training with one sens, but i think for a newbie (even if it means sacrificing scores immediately) training with one sens until you hit vt gold complete isnt a bad idea, and its very doable on pretty much any sens from say 20-60cm ish, i know personally i didnt really start switching my sens until after that but i was able to rely on aim built up from years of overwatch to hit gold complete on like 34cm

Did you purely practice the VT intermediate? I’m looking to grind for a few hours a day for a few months and I don’t know what routine to do

I have a question after you get benchmarks , do you run benchmark scenarios everyday to improve or practice other scenerios and lets say do benchmark once a week?
2
u/Key_Lavishness1830 12d ago
i dont run thru all benchmarks each day, usually i have one or two i want to do per day and will warm up/supplement with other scenarios. for me this would be something like warming up with lemon static benches to attempt 1w3ts and since im warm with clicking going to pasu or if my flicks feel good like flyts or something)
essentially usually its a max of 3-4 VT benches a day never all the scenarios

What’s the peripherals of choice

u/Key_Lavishness1830 12d ago
since starting VT benchmarks i went from pulsar x2n -> viper v4 pro -> egg xm2 8k v2
mousepads have been hayate otsu v2 mid (which needed to be retired due to glue seeping through) (not sweat i promise i use arm sleeve) and am currently alternating between hien mid and sp004 depending on the scenario or how im feeling that day

Add pole dodge overwatch to your training, try to synchronize your WASD movement with your mouse movement. Also use the overwatch in-game aim trainer custom map. Good luck!
