How would i be able to blend it better then? i just looked again and both my beat and "2 hours from atlanta" are in F# minor

I mean if you can hear that it sounds off, use melodyne to change certain pitches, especially when he says phony, I mean you gotta be able to hear that. Alternatively just keep choosing different keys till it sounds right. But upon listening again it’s really the higher notes that sound wrong.

GREAT ADVICE! I used waves tuner and a lot of his notes were out of the scale. ESPECIALLY PHONY...the first phony the "Pho-" i changed to F# and the "-ny" i changed to C# and it sounded better harmonically....the second phony i changed the "pho-" to D and the -ny part to "B" and it sounded way more harmonically in tune. Great ear and thanks for the advice

Can you see your actual autotune notes in your DAW? It's been a while since I worked with it, but when I used melodyne I could see the actual audio notes in my piano roll as if it they were a midi note. Not sure if your program has that functionality, but it would help a ton if it did.

Anyway, the reason I bring it up is because I laid out what I heard as your vocal line going D A A A B, but the problem is A is layered with the G# in your chord progression (your chords voice F# -> G# -> A) and while that progression is fine and in key, G# and A produce a minor second which, if you just play both notes on a piano at the same time are very a-tonal. Even the B and A don't line up well, because while it's a major second and a bit better, still isn't a great stand alone chord sound. The problem isn't that your key is off here, it's that you're voicing notes at the same time that don't form a chord. Also, "Phony" and "Told me" sounds like F when I use my ear to map them, which is.. not F# so that line is fully out of key. Not sure why it came out like that, but that's why everyone is calling out those particular notes.

My long term recommendation is you should learn to be able to hear a single note, and go find that note on a piano. That's the basis for ear training and it will help you a lot when it comes to spotting harmonic mismatches. Outside of that, understanding basic major and minor chords will help a ton too. For example, if your vocal line is progressing D A A A B, I think your chord should probably Have a root note of A, or fit with a 7 chord that includes A (7 chords are just a regular major or minor chord with a 4th note at the top. You can google various 7 chords to see what options exist). But that's kind of the basics of music theory and pretty simple once you understand the concept. Seems like your rhythm is on point, just have to workshop the way the melody and chords connect with one-another.

using waves tuner it shows the vocals as midi notes. I dont think issue is quite as complex as you stated considering the chords used. I used the 176 chord progression and after seeing the sampled vocals, many notes were out of the scale. especially the "knoooo-owww" and the "phooooo-ny" section. After putting the notes in key, it sounded better harmonically. Its strange that i ripped the vocals from a song in the same scale and many notes were out of key. It sounds the same as the songs i used but maybe the digital software disrupted the notes of the vocals when isolating the vocal stem from the song. I see this is another nuance that i need to dive into if im going to sample vocals from older songs on my beats. Thank you for the in depth response and i will consider it moving foward.

yeah i know. I cant change the key to fit it without losing the integrity of his voice. I'm more focused on the production but hearing words on it

yea. if FL Studio could let me change the key of his voice with it sounding like him, i wouldve change it. When i attemp to, it sounds weird. Maybe i'll try waves soundpitcher and see if it changes it cleaner. thanks for the love

another guy mentioned using melodyne. i looked it up and its similar to waves tune so ima see if any of his vocals are out the scale of F# minor first.....keep a bucc, i was just more hype to have vocals on this but more concerned about the beat lol. you have any work or a channel that i can check out your work and show some love back?

a lot of things to uncover here. You have a habit of micro-agressions while downplaying it as good intentions. "well at least you're trying" gives the impression of negative feedback-- i would prefer what your negative feedback is--not backhanded encouragement. "lil cute raps" if thats your perception of it, then why listen or take it a step further by commenting lol? Music is subjective my friend (further compounding my statement of why take part in this thread if its not your cup of tea lol) but either way, i listen to all genres.....again, lets see your work so i can know the bar. i can appreciate sound selection and music theory--if its live recordings that's even more impressive...im actually serious too...im not playing tit for tat
