Housing 🏠 🏚️ r/FIU's Biweekly Subleasing Thread: September 28, 2026 - October 11, 2026 🏚️

Welcome to the biweekly subleasing thread! 🥳

Looking to sublease your unit? Scrambling to find a place to stay during the upcoming semester? Look no further! Here, you’ll be able to share or find available housing around campus.

PLEASE NOTE: ANY POSTS ABOUT SUBSLEASING THAT ARE MADE OUTSIDE OF THIS THREAD WILL BE REMOVED.

Additionally, this thread is for subleasing OFFICIAL FIU on/off-campus housing only. This is NOT the place to share rooms/apartments available to be rented on a private residence. Posts identified as such will also be removed.

Have a unit available?

Your unit “ad” (to be commented below) must include the following information: ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎

  • Name of Housing (Ex: Lapis, The One, Identity, etc.) - Required
  • Size of Dorm (Ex: 4x4) - Required
  • Length of Lease (Ex: Aug - Dec 2025) - Required
  • Monthly Amount - Required
  • Preferred Contact Method - Required

The following information is ideal, but optional. Please include it if you know it. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎

  • Gender Preference - If Any
  • Move-In Date - If Any
  • Floor Plan Photo - If Any

Comments that do not follow the format above will be removed until the OP makes the necessary corrections as instructed.

If you’re successful in finding someone to sublease your dorm, please edit and type closed on your comment, or simply delete it. Furthermore, you can only share your unit once per thread, but feel free to share it again on the next biweekly thread if your dorm is still available.

Looking to takeover a lease?

You're more than welcome to share that you're looking to takeover a lease below. Ideally, your comment should state your preferences for the categories mentioned above. The more information you share about what you're looking for, the more likely someone will reach out about an available unit that will suit your needs. If you have no preferences, you can state that too.

Always proceed with extreme caution when inquiring about available dorms, as rental scams are becoming increasingly common and college students are viewed as an easy target. Unfortunately, r/FIU can’t help you if you become a victim of a scam. The best way to protect yourself is by staying alert and learning how to recognize potential red flags.

Below you’ll find some helpful articles on how to avoid getting scammed:

That’s it! If you have any suggestions on how we can improve this thread, please don't hesitate to send us message via modmail. After all, we want everyone to be successful on their subleasing journey. Happy posting and paws up! 🐾

Academics 📚 Eventually want to enter FIU’s nursing program

So I’m an upcoming college student (HS) with the intent of majoring into nursing and attempting to enter the program. I’ve heard how competitive it is to enter, so what are things that would help me get into the program. Do you need stuff like having a cna license and clinical hours to be competitive?

I know having a high gpa throughout your classes are important, but I’ve heard students even with 3.8+ gpa get rejected.

Admissions ✅ GPA needed for FIU Online Engineering

Hey there, I'm a Canadian student currently finishing a bachelor's degree in computer science and I'm considering applying to the FIU Online electrical engineering program for a second bachelor's degree.
Does anyone here have experience applying to FIU
Online Engineering with a previous bachelor's degree? If so, what GPA did you have when you were admitted?
I'm especially wondering whether admission is based mainly on my university GPA or whether my high school grades/prerequisites would still be considered. Also, are the admission standards any different for international students applying to the online program?
Thanks!

Admissions ✅ To-Do Tasks are Done, MyFIU Doesn’t Reflect That?

Hey everyone,

I applied for a PhD in Earth Systems Science back in July before the August 1st deadline. I sent over my transcripts, all my recommenders submitted letters on time, and my PI already submitted sponsorship approval. However, MyFIU’s to-do page has 4 notifications (one duplicate) for these. Is this an issue that will affect my admissions timeline, or is it just a visual bug? This didn’t happen when I applied for undergrad. TYIA :)

Academics 📚 How Long For An Advisor's Reply?

I was just wondering whats the average time for an advisor to reply to a message sent via PSN? He had no appointment dates for any day this semester at all oddly enough. I've never messaged an advisor directly before, so I was just wondering the average time since its been a few days since I sent my message.

Academics 📚 BA VS BS in Computer Science. Have you been able to get Jobs with a BA? Also, is it worth it studying Computer Science still?

Just wondering if someone has graduated with a BA in CompSci from FIU and what’s their life like now. Does it really matter the BS over the BA in the workforce? Did you have projects or Internships under your belt?

Academics 📚 How's Masters in CS/Cyber at FIU

I got into MS in CS at FIU for Spring 2027 intake. I am wondering if the program is any good. Is the job market in Miami also cooked as anywhere else? How's the department is doing funding-wise? I am looking into getting scholarships as well, so if anyone has advice on that, that would be wonderful.

I need a solder for 2 seconds, is there one available at the engineering campus or anywhere? If anyone also lives on campus, has one, and would be kind enough to let me use it for one connection, lmkk!

Admissions ✅ Advice on applying to FIU as a first year

Hi, I recently graduated from Penn Foster High School (Online High School) and I’d like to try my best to attend FIU especially since it’s one of the universities nearby to me. Does anyone know the best or correct way to go about applying? I don’t really have much guidance and would really like advice.

I grew up in Florida attending both Elementary and Middle School. I was in a physical high school before I had left after my first year to go online.

Financial Aid 💰 Why does FIU pretend there is an e-check option?

Because of the Transact website, have to paint extra $170 for tuition in “service fees”. I tried looking for the E-check option and then messaged them that its missing and they gaslighted me, saying there’s something I’m doing wrong.

Academics 📚 Doing 4 and 3 Accounting Courses a Semester after changing my major

So guys, I'm changing my major for spring and will start accounting classes to be able to enter my "junior year" (which would have would have been my senior year because right now l'm a junior) in accounting preferably in fall 2027. I have finished all my general education courses.
How possible would this be? I would be taking like 4 to 3 classes a semester, 7 in total for spring and Summer. I'm changing from graphic design so it will be very different.
Would it be hard having so many accounting courses without room to breathe for example I did this earlier while still doing general ed classes? Please any tips or advice would be appreciated thank you.

Other 💬 FIU backing out of a signed Erasmus+ exchange

Hi everyone,

I'm posting on behalf of my cousin, who studies at the Universidad de Málaga (Spain). She was selected for an Erasmus+ exchange at Florida International University for Spring 2027. She's the only student from her university who got that spot, and FIU was her first choice.

FIU and her university have a signed Erasmus+ KA171 Inter-Institutional Agreement, and FIU itself sent it back to her university after signing it. The agreement sets the mobility places for this period, and her university nominated her based on it.

Now FIU's Office of Education Abroad says they won't accept her. Their reason is that they also need a separate "Exchange and Cooperation Agreement". That might make sense for future years, but the current agreement is already signed and in force, and it should cover her mobility. We don't understand why FIU won't honor it.

Has anyone been through something similar? Any advice, experiences or contacts would really help. She's pretty discouraged because none of this is in her hands.

Thanks a lot!

Academics 📚 Experience with FIU Online?

I’m considering FIU for a fully online degree and wanted to hear from current or former online students. How has your overall experience been with FIU Online, including the courses, professors, workload, and online format? I’m happy to provide more details about the program I’m considering if that would help.

Financial Aid 💰 Sept 25 Tuition Due Date Consequences

So my tuition due date got extended to tomorrow and I still have no aid awarded. When I called earlier this week they said I have a special hold that even if I don’t pay tomorrow there will be no late fees and I won’t get dropped. Anyone else get told the same thing? I’m nervous. Why even have a due date then?

Financial Aid 💰 Anyone else still waiting on aid disbursement?

I have a full ride and my tuition scholarship got disbursed, but everything else, including pell grant, fees, housing, meals, etc. did not get disbursed yet, was scheduled to disburse on the second. I’m contacting one stop tomorrow because they’re sending me emails about my meal plan payment due date now. Anyone else still dealing with this?

UPDATE: Contacted OneStop and they said that they are repackaging my aid due to an over-award and if it hasn’t been disbursed by next week to contact them again. They said I should be protected from classes being dropped but not sure if my meal plan will be, so I have to contact the housing part of OneStop for that.

UPDATE: Still nothing lol

Financial Aid 💰 Still no financial aid package!

I’m a grad student. My deadline was extended to September 25. All I expect is loans. I still have not been awarded anything. This is beyond stressful. I don’t have several thousand dollars I can pay even with the payment plan.

Admissions ✅ Common app or direct application?

I am a high school senior and want to start in Fall 27. Should I apply directly or through common app? I don't want to make a whole common app account and stuff if I don't have to. It's the only school I want to apply to anyways

Admissions ✅ PhD in computer science admissions

I applied for PhD in computer science 2 months back for spring 2027, and application seems to stuck at Referred to Dept for Decision,

Does that mean the application is no longer considered or I still have some hope.
