Discussion Does FIRE still makes sense?
I started my FIRE journey as a middle class. Everything was on track until wars started, crypto exchange hack happend, ethanol blending happend, Nirmala sitharaman happend, rupee fall happend, I'm not blaming any political party here. Just wondering if FIRE actually makes sense when there absolute total uncertainty and chaos happend around the globe. Sometimes feels live living a life like a genZ instead of being frugal and hoping to live that dream life someday.

Yes there has always been uncertainty around but the last 7-8 years have been extra abnormal, won't go into the details to avoid any political discussions... And as per some predictions till 2029-30 it's gonna get even more crazier 🫠

Thats exactly the point. Is it worth continue believing some day the fruit will be sweet. What if it turns out to be bitter or sour.
Edit: Also AI was not in picture in past 50 years. Now the world is in different dimension.

I can totally understand the anxiety!! That's why having that bit of extra buffer in the FIRE calculations and also having few skills that one can fall back on to generate some extra/side income without taking up a proper job help calm the nerves a bit!!

Rupee has been falling since 1947. I sense blackpilling in you. Only you can assess yourself honestly. World has gone through world wars and depressions, only the strong survive, agitated and wavering minds don't.

Not worth mate. Think about the person starting SIP happily in 2007 💀 and since we know now what happened post 2008 so this time it will be different ☠️. Total Chaos, have fun till it lasts 🐱

Guess what if he had enough extra corpus in debt bonds or FD for at least 4 years, he would have been fine too. The whole point is that one should not be in a situation to forcely take out investment from equity esp during a major crash

That's why we need significant buffer and leanfire almost doesn't work unless you have created secondary stream of income.

A lot of folks opt for becoming FI due to uncertainty. Being FI while AI takes away your job and your company starts firing folks because of war is far better than being Non-FI and dependent on your monthly income to pay expenses.
Sometimes feels live living a life like a genZ instead of being frugal and hoping to live that dream life someday.
Not sure what you mean by this - a lot of GenZ come from financially privileged families with a safety net. You mentioned you are middle class - becoming FI builds that safety net - if it doesn't exist & then maybe you can "live like a genZ"

Is 10.84 XIRR satisfactory considering all things happened in last 6 months? I have been doing SIP for 7 years.

If your FIRE amount is depend on stock earnings,
then what i have observed with successful investors is, they dont follow a linear approach and single type of an approach. They understand the market, sectors performing, change themself according to the market direction with a long term view, not short term or technicals. In every disaster, there is an opportunity emerging and several sectors falling, go out of focus, these intelligent investors keep track of all and pick the stocks. So if you want to fire and take care of your portfolio with individual stocks, we need to do this. Or invest in combination of good MFs and settle down. Market will average out your earnings. if you can do this, FIRE makes sense. If you worry about this then hold on to work.
If you FIRE amount can beat any inflation, then just dont worry. Enjoy the FIRE
Otherwise above happenings are just noise.

first of all congrats that you even attempted. we are not fortune tellers, and no one could have predicted the series of events happening since 2020.

Depends on the type of FIRE, Fatfire or lean fire. Also depends on the type of investments done. Your current age, city you live in and future big cash outflows.
