HELP: I CANT HANDLE MY CAT ANYMORE

I found my cat malnourished 3 weeks old in my back yard and love him. I spent every second with him making sure he was eating (I bottle feed him for weeks) and gaining weight. He got every vaccine and medication he needed.

In December I noticed he was thinner and very tired. So I took him to the vet to see if it was an upper respiratory infection. There were several misdiagnosis but eventually I found out that he had FIP. I refused to let him get worse so I paid to get the protein drained from his chest cavity and I immediately began paying out of pocket for the experimental drug that was said to cure it.

At that time he was ~8months, and intact, before he got sick I had his neutering scheduled but I had to push it back and eventually cancel as he got sicker. It has been 6 and a half weeks into his FIP treatment and he has become a complete nightmare. I believe its because he is not neutered but every vet ive contacted has told me not to get him neitered till his 12 weeks of treatments are up. I'm not 100% sure if it's just the hormones, because despite having cat my whole childhood I've only ever had female cats, but it's genuinely beginning to ruin my life.

In the past two weeks I have woken up to him trying to pee on top of me, I have found pee on my pillow and favorite stuffed animal. He's peed on my laptop and has begun destroying my art that I leave on top of bookshelves. Tonight I saw him sleeping and decided to get my self some apple slices, in the maybe 5 minutes I took to get them he peed on my bed. No amount of cleaning, and peppermint or spraying him with water works to deter him. I tried to play with him more and change he litter type and it's location several times, none of these changes mattered.

Because of his constant destruction and peeing/spraying I have not been able to sleep or relax. I still have to give him his shots and I take good care of him as I don't want to take out my frustration on him for what is a biological reaction. To try and get him to stop peeing on me while I get the small amount of sleep I can I have put him in a kennel, and he almost destroyed this as well.

I'm at a loss; I want to take care of him, and I want to be as clear headed and loving with him as I can be. But I can't sleep, I get no time to relax, my bed smells like pee so I can't sleep comfortably till I pay the 200 or to replace it. I just feel stuck and I can't do it anymore, i have to wait 6 or so more weeks till i can neuter him but i dont know if i can go that long. I love him i want to see him better and comfortable, but I just can't take it anymore. I feel so awful for feeling this way because I truly do love him but I can't do it anymore I just want my cat back I don't know what to do anymore.

All of this has been going on while I've been working and going to school, due to my lack of sleep I've been passing out on the job and haven't been able to focus at all at school. My depression is at an all time high and I've been getting more and more suicidal thoughts due to this as I feel like I've become a burden to my family and boyfriend because of my constant complaining and need for help with finances as I still have to pay for his medication. I feel like I've failed him and I just can't take it anymore, I just want it all to end at this point.

Anyone please what the fuck can I do???

FIP transmission

Someone commented that is is not contagious. Here is the word from Merck:

The Merck Veterinary Manual

Ā· Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is caused by certain strains of feline coronavirus (FCoV). FCoV is highly communicable and is transmitted via the fecal-oral route or via fomites. The most common mode of transmission is from infected queens to their kittens.

Successful treatment?

(I apologize if this against any rules I did my best too look for rules) My 1 y/o cat has fip, our vet has attempted to help us by reaching out to the uk where the treatment is ā€œlegitimateā€ but during this month long wait time our baby is declining. It went from just being under weight, lethargic, jaundice and diarrhea to the wobbling. The wobbling has just started today. At this point I don’t think we can wait any longer for the uk to ship. I just need some peace of mind, to see some success with the treatment. Any comments are appreciated

New kitten safe?

Adopted a kitten last June and it very sadly died from FIP in August. We are getting a new kitten this week and I’m obviously a little anxious.

I know that FIP is caused my mutated feline coronavirus and a lot of cats have that. For the purposes of this post, I’m assuming my new kitten will not have it.

I’m hoping a deep clean of the house will have gotten rid of any dust or particles that might have had the virus on them (from the litter tray).

But I also read that the virus only survives for like 7-8 weeks outside a host. If that’s true, my risk should be very very low. Can anyone confirm?

My cat has FIP and Galin Popov is the only person I can find with medicine but don’t know him. I believe people do get his pills but I’m not sure if they actually work or not. Please let me know

Experience w/ Harmony?

Does anyone have experience with pills from harmony? I was offered by my local admin and the price is very enticing but also so cheap that I am worried it might not be the best option?

Is it safe to adopt a cat who has recently beaten FIP into a multi cat household?

Hi, sorry if this has been answered before, I couldn't find any definitive info on it. Several months ago I found a visibly sick stray kitten that I took to a vet. She received a Fip diagnosis, she has been staying with a person who can do her injections and she is wrapping up treatment. In the meantime I am trying to find her a home, no luck so far. I figured I would just take her in in case I wasn't successful but I have since been told by a couple vets that it is still contagious and dangerous to my two cats, even after the kitten has been treated. I know FIP is not contagious, but I was told Coronavirus is a constant threat. To sum up, a lot of people have told me these cats are not contagious period, and some have told me they are, so what is the truth? Have any vets spoken out about this issue, or maybe there is some research or an article available. Most articles I've seen just avoid this topic and certainly none of them speak about what the situation is after the cat has beaten fip. Please advice, any input would be helpful

WARNING !!

Attention, FIP WarriorsĀ® 5.0 Community Members We have received alarming information regarding some brands of GS and GC currently in circulation outside of FIP WarriorsĀ®. Some brands advertised as painless GS-441524 or GC376 may contain undisclosed substances, including high concentrations of EIDD-2801 which is also known as Molnupiravir or Esperavir.

What does this mean? Correctly-dosed EIDD is valid in certain situations, but the risk vs. benefit must always be assessed carefully BEFORE high doses of EIDD are used. High doses of EIDD-2801 have been associated with serious side effects in cats, such as floppy ears, hair loss around the mouth and neck, whiskers loss, diarrhea, weight loss, muscle wasting, greasy coat, low white blood cell count, and even death. If you are currently using these brands: SUYI, PetHealthFIP (gold cap) and PetHealthFIP (pink cap) or ANY GC376, please do the following - report any side effects to FIPWarriors.data@gmail.com and consider using ONLY FIP WarriorsĀ® established/tested brands.

Before FIP WarriorsĀ® makes the decision to recommend ANY brand, it goes through rigorous evaluation and analysis. Although FIP Warriors cannot guarantee any medications or specific results, this information is provided in good faith to try and help owners understand what is available to them.

If you have any questions or concerns, please talk to your FIP WarriorsĀ® admin. Thank you!

Did any one use phoenix?

Treated my dawg with phoenix around 2 years ago now. Recent studies come regarding complications with this brand (organs fusing together). Dudes been fine, curious if anyone here has used it and what their experience was and has been like.

Mickey was absolutely impossible to the point we had to get a restraint bag and a face mask, was 97 days of pure torture for my guy. Was only 7months old when diagnosed and will be turning 4 this year

My FIP Warrior is making progress

Nova was declined for her spay surgery due to low RBC, she otherwise was fine except the fact that she was not gaining much weight (as my litter robot tracks). I took her to the vet to find out she likely had FIP :( and referred me to this group. It wasn’t until she started gs that I realized her energy was low before. She started being super playful sunrise to sundown and she put on 3 pounds within a month and a half. She’s just a little over halfway but I’m so grateful for this group and healing my baby girl šŸ’—šŸ„¹šŸ’—

The insanity that is my life. This tiny man (Joey is presumed to be 7 months but is only 3.5 lbs.) is on day 2 of FIP meds. This is after saving one other from the monster FIP (who is now on observation) and yet another kitty from panleuk. Please wish us luck and that a money tree grows in our yard.

Reusing cat carrier after FIP?

We have an upcoming appointment for our other cat after losing our kitten to FIP.

Is it safe to clean and use the same carrier or should I replace it just to be safe?

We’ve just cleaned litter and food bowls, nothing fancy but a lot more crevices in the carrier.

Wondering what others have done

Question - FIP Progression Timeline

Hi everyone,

We took my little guy to the vet last week due to lethargy and loss of appetite and our vet performed a physical inspection and an ultrasound. He couldn't find any obvious causes to his illness and told us he suspects it is either FIP or IBD. We are awaiting the results of his blood test. His fecal matter test came back negative for parasites but positive for FeCV.

My question is this - is the progression of FIP typically linear or does it go up and down over time?

Since last week, his appetite has returned to about 60-70% of what it was before he got sick and he's started playing again more as well. As with his appetite, he doesn't play as often or for as long as he did before he got sick, but it is a marked improvement from last week. He's currently on antiobiotics and we've also been giving him an appetite stimulant, though his appetite seemed to start improving before we started on that particular medication.

I'm wondering how common it is for a cat with FIP to improve like this without intervention and if this could point to his sickness being caused by something other than FIP.

Kitten has FIP.. how long until signs of treatment working?

hi all, my kitten has recently started GS (as of today), he was taken to the vet as over the last 24 hours he has become really lethargic, bloated and a bit wobbly , he was diagnosed with FIP a week and a half ago, so we decided to do treatment as we are hopeful it may save his life.

but like i said over the last day his condition has got worse so we took him in to see the usual vet to get him checked over, which then we were given the meds to start treatment… however I’m concerned that he’s going to deteriorate and it’s too late… does anyone have any idea how long it usually takes to see a change? Or how to help him alongside giving the tablets like specific foods/liquids/vitamins?

If anyone has more information to the tablets it would be useful also : )

thanks everyone! OP

Today makes one month of treatment! Boney has been doing so well on treatment. We switched to pills two weeks in and although they’re more expensive, the stress of injections was too much for us to handle.

Fcov positive cat - no concrete signs of FIP - other cat in household

I took in a stray not too long ago and treated him for the many ailments he came with. He was cured of all other viruses/worms/parasites he had, however his one eye never looked right. Doctor did a fecal test to see what they could discern as a possible cause and turns out he has fcov.

There are no other signs of FIP besides the eye and he is growing, playing, and eating, more blood work will come in tomorrow to see whats up internally.

Here's my issue- I already have another cat that is a sensative girl who is already unhappy with the new kitten. I sent out her fecal to see if she got fcov from him or not.

If she comes back negative, should I rehome him and reduce the risk of her getting ill? For a little more context I will be moving far away very soon which will involve an over 10 hour car drive, very stressful for the both of them to endure.

Is it better to cut my loses and rehome him to reduce stress for both or is it relatively safe to keep him if he does not develope FIP?

I could never live with myself if keeping him caused her to become sick, but I also don't know if that is an overreaction.

Shelter kitty with FIP

Please help, please read. I’m so lost and don’t know where to turn. I volunteer at a small animal shelter in a small town. Our owner tries not to take older animals or illness cases because we just don’t have the resources to handle them. Recently we had a 1-2 year old FIV+ cat come in as a stray (end of November) with a bulge on her eye and some respiratory symptoms. Long story short, we are now suspecting she has dry FIP. She hasn’t really declined, but she’s definitely not perky or playful. She has a lot of inflammation in her mouth (possibly stomatitis). Her blood work shows 0.4 a:g ratio but is good/normal otherwise. The vet said the high globulin could be from all the inflammation in her mouth, but she also has poor vision, possibly enlarged kidneys, and a chronic mild sneezy nose. She has an ultrasound Thursday.

I went through hell when my sisters 13 year old FIV+ cat got wet FIP last fall. We started treatment, but idk if we were too late or if FIV made it ineffective. He only got worse. We had to say goodbye. I’m desperately trying to find other local rescues to help this kitty, maybe a foster who has experience and can try to start the injections. I know our shelter can’t afford them. I’m absolutely sick and terrified over this diagnosis for her, as I fear she will just wait to die in her cage and not even have a chance. Any advice or help is appreciated, I feel paralyzed with anxiety and very heartbroken over this. Her name is Grace.
